That's right, the team behind FFXIII is interested in making a sequel (for better or for worse, as we learned with FFX)!
In an interview with Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama, two of the important folks behind FFXIII, Kitase said that he would like to work on a game that could be referred to as FFXIII-2. The goal of such a game, according to Kitase, would be to explain "additional areas of the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology" as well as help "players to better understand the FFXIII story." Equally interesting is that the team behind FFXIII has already been grinding away at a new game. Toriyama hinted that this project would be another entry in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, which would confirm speculations that Square Enix intends to introduce a new title in the series at their press conference this coming January. The duo also said that the FFXIII team had intended to produce a large amount of downloadable additional material for the game (you may remember having heard this earlier). This ended up not panning out, but Kitase did say that his future titles would work to develop additional content from the beginning. They also mentioned that some of the added content originally intended for FFXIII could wind up in this mystery title currently in the works. While it's beginning to look like Square Enix is building up for their Fabula Nova Crystallis press conference as much as Lebron James did for his signing announcement, I have to admit they've certainly hooked my interest. Hrm. Looks like I'll need to actually finish FF13 and see if I would be interested in a sequel. I have enjoyed the first game but got to a point where I had done too much grinding and was bored with the actual game itself. I haven't ruled out completing it though, since this happens to me a lot with games the first time through.

What?
What?! ...What. Okay, so, let's see the track record of this team. A game that is widely regarded as a very poor follow-on to a game that had mixed feelings, and a game that is more divisive than Northern Ireland, Palestine, and Marmite combined*. What could possibly go wrong? Other than Riots, Mass Suicide, Mass Homicide, Civil War... Thank goodness this is just a "Would like to" in much the same manner as how England "would like to" win another world cup, Scotland "would like to" actually qualify for a tournament and PS3 owners "would like to" drink away all the pain. It may happen, but not for a long time and not without a considerable amount of effort/alcohol from or for those involved in making it happen... *Actual divisiveness of game may be some factors smaller than implied by this statement. If this goes the same way as X-2, then everybody run!... or, to use a line from a game from Square's past.... "Who would repeat that senseless and deadly mistake?"

They are a games company so it's good that they're still making games, and thinking about making games. I'll give them that.

Final Fantasy X was not so bad, and X-2 was catastrophic.
Final Fantasy XIII didn't even looked (or felt) like it was finished, but the sequel can be better, I mean, anything can be better than that... -------------------- Live Long and Prosper! |

I really didn't mind FFXIII at all. I thought it was a pretty decent game in several respects: it was just missing a few things that would have really made it a solid entry in the FF series. I would be interested to see what they do with a sequel, whether it was set up like the original or if they decide to act on complaints and add towns, etc. I'm not exactly sure where a sequel would fit in (though admitedly I've never seen the ending of the game, as I am completely unable to beat orphan

I've played through most of FFXIII, and personally, I think it sucked. I'm still gonna finish it though, and play the sequal when it comes out. Lets just hope it's not gonna be another crap sequal like X-2.
