and they're using it to put on pop concerts.
Japanese 3D singing hologram Hatsune Miku becomes nation's strangest pop star. at first i was a little confused by this. why anyone would pay money to see a singing hologram was beyond me. but the more i thought about it, the more it made sense. a singing hologram with a synthesized singing voiced really isnt that far off from your average pop star nowadays (d'oho satire!). but really, whether the person on stage singing and dancing is real or not, the entertainment value certainly is. though i'm a little disappointed that no one is doing anything cooler with this technology. This is... odd. And kinda sad. And strange. I suppose you're right about this being close to a lot of what's going on in pop music in the US currently, Mal, but this still just seems like a very silly step to take.
Quote though i'm a little disappointed that no one is doing anything cooler with this technology. I'll agree to that. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! Have a listen! |

Quote at first i was a little confused by this. why anyone would pay money to see a singing hologram was beyond me. Well, a 3D image is slightly more verisimilar than a 2D image, right? Also, they can theoretically do more with a hologram than with real live actors. That said, I don't like Miku's standard choice of clothing (sleeveless shirt and turquoise tie). But whatever. I'm usually into popular music for the music anyway; the visuals can go take a hike. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Gotta admit, the technology and the idea is awesome.
But Mal's absolutely right: using it for concerts to make an anime girl sing, really? It's very cute. But other than the fact that it's a hologram, I don't see the appeal of watching her do the twist versus anyone real. I'd like to see the theatrics pumped up: make her go upside down, do something a human CAN'T! -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. I'm telling you you're wrong. |

Yeah, that's the main advantage of having an animated character rather than a real person: special effects.
For example, for certain songs, they could have the singer gradually split into more and more instances of herself, if the song involves increasing counterpoint between its melody lines. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing.
