The Hardest Game Series I ever played was the Super Star Wars series. While ROTJ i got to the last level but couldn't win, with ANH and TESB i couldn't make it past level 2 or 3. Frustrating.

Reminds me of a game i saw.

I saw this video about hardest game ever and it was a japanese space shooter and this huge monster was shooting thousands upon thousands of shots per second and you had to find little nitches and hide and even then it was still possible to get hit.

It was classified as the hardest game ever made.

I have even heard of an entire level taking weeks to do in a space game video i saw once, but i forgot the name.

Truthfully,i like hard games but not when they are overkill.

youre probably talking about either ikaruga or, most likely, touhou. and yes, both are like that and both are incredibly hard.

You're probably talking about Mushihime-Sama. It's probably the most extreme example of a "bullet hell" shmup game. Here's a video. I've never played it, and I don't want to play it. I'm terrible at shmups.

Yeah, Ikaruga and Touhou are cakewalks compared to that.

That game is in the "hardest video game boss" video on YouTube.

The interesting thing about those shmups is that they actually aren't as hard as they look. I met a guy at Funspot this summer who plays shmups, and I saw him beat Mushihime-Sama live, in like 2-3 credits. Right in front of me. He was talking and everything while playing. Sure it wasn't a 1cc, but he still beat it rather handily while talking with us. The new shmups almost always give you an escape route, if you know how to look through all the on-screen garbage. He was a champ.

The funny part? I had to try SNES Phalanx on Funny difficulty. He couldn't beat stage 1. He tried for ~1.5 hours and couldn't be the first stage. Yet Phalanx gets no publicity for being the hardest shmup ever. There are some real hidden gems that are brutally hard while still controlling well.
