I don't know if it should be posted here, but... Xenogears is out on PSN US (it's been some days now, but only had time to post now, lol).
why is that important? because it's a fantastic game, with a descent and involving plot, full of philosophy and religious references, nice gameplay and, well, check for yourselves. Really, I didn't believe it would be released, because it's something of an underground game around the west, since it deals with some delicate themes, so it's a big opportunity for all those who heard about the game but didn't have the opportunity to play it. -------------------- Live Long and Prosper! |

It's interesting, when I first played Xenogears I didn't find it to be nearly as 'delicate themed' as everyone says it is. I suspect that this is simply because I played the game about nine years after it was originally released.
Regardless, I thought it was a very nice game and I agree that it seems to have been under-played, so it's nice that it'll be available on the PSN. While it seems to ramble from time to time, the plot is pretty impressive on the whole. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! I'd like Xenogears a lot more if the development team had bothered to make the second disk an actual RPG rather than mini-dungeons interspersed with characters talking at you. Excellent first disk, disappointingly half-assed second disk.

My experience of the game was getting far, well into the second disc, then eventually I stopped playing it and moved onto something else. I didn't mind the game it just slowly left my radar. I didn't think until now that the second disc was boring, but I bet that's what it was. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. The late 90s - it was a special time, when the western gaming public collectively asked itself: are we were grown up enough that our elders and betters won't object to us seeing bizarre appropriations of religious themes? Turns out no one noticed in the first place. -------------------- "Cavefish is delicious, but only if cooked." |

Excellent first disk, disappointingly half-assed second disk. You got a point, I remember reading somewhere that the second disc was that way because they would'nt have enough time to make an "actual RPG". Such problems really can nerf some games with potential... and about the delicate themes, I too played that game just few years ago, so I was not shocked and all, but for a game that doesn't have a "mature" appearenece it does explore many religious subjects, probably got many people by surprise by the time it was released. -------------------- Live Long and Prosper! |

I played the first cd of Xenosaga, and enjoyed it. As a physics student at the time, I smirked when they mentioned Hilbert Space, but really did enjoy it and thought it was a quality game despite its characteristically japanime-ish way of salting the plot with a good share of borrowed esoteric terminology. I don't understand why people think it adds to a game so much- it feels to me more like a cheap gimmick. Any old hack can go and rifle through an encyclopedia of philosophy, mythology, or whatever to find names for their characters and plot devices.
Anyway, it really was a fun game; I even got hooked on the card game that came with it for a while. And my roommate said that if I liked xenosaga, then I'd love xenogears. |

I didn't think until now that the second disc was boring, but I bet that's what it was. I found that the beginning of the second disk was slow (it felt like their plot lines had kinda run out of steam), but that the second half of the second disk was very well done. I'll admit to a similar dwindling of interesting at this point when I played it (though I didn't stop playing), but, like I said, halfway through the second disk it gets very interesting and I became captivated again. I found this section to be my favorite, as they finally connected all the elements of what I consider to be a rather lengthy plot. Moral of the story, I would encourage anyone to push through, because the fourth quarter is quite good.
