Ok so I wanted to know what everyones top 5 games are. there are no limits so any video game is available.
here are mine (mabye I may think of some i want to change but thats ok too)

FF IX
Fallout 3
Zelda Ocarina of Time
Fable
FF IV

this is not in any particular order just the top Five for now. let me Know yours.

If its mixed series:

1:Ultima underworld:great crpg and fun free roam.
2:suikoden 1 and 2:love the game play and putting together teams and the wars and such.

2:ff4:I know its strange that i picked this one over ff6,but i find it easier to pick up for the gameplay now that i have the ds version.I also found it easier to play because i really like the gameplay because it isn't as slow.

3:Secret of evermore:This is one of those games i simply find it really easy to pick up and enjoy

4:suikoden 1 and 2:I've beaten those games to death and know em so well that i no longer touch em now because i've beaten them too many times.

5:parasite eve 1 and 2:I know I know,i consist of several games from squaresoft,but i can't help it,this game is really good and the gameplay can be rather fun.

non rpgs:

1:megaman:2,3 and 8:The first 2 i just love the music and layout and the bosses are also quite fun.The last one i liked more than the 5th because of the level

2:castlevania 4:OH MY GOD!! this game has a unbelievable atmosphere and what you can do is literally amazing.

3:Zelda ocarina of time and most of the others(except majoras mask and zelda 2 adventure of link which i beat but don't like that much)k some people say its overrated,but i really like this game.

I enjoy the time traveling and have beaten this game countless times.

I also found the whole horse riding to be enjoyable and a nice thing.

Oh:i didn't like majora's mask at all

4:Metroid series:I have been with it since i was 8 years old and remember the music the style art and the gameplay

5:mario series:Yes i like the mario series too,i own mario 1 2 and 3.
I've beaten them as well and own super mario world and several others and beaten most of them.

I think mario has some very good games and its a legendary series worthy of being on the list of best games series ever.

Haha that's exactly what I thought. Coped and pasted straight from there. I don't think there would be any changes since then.

1 - Deus Ex (RPG / Cyberpunk)
Brilliantly woven storyline set in a rich and deeply rewarding world. It's the only old game that still stands out above everything today as truly unsurpassed. This should be an institutional game that shows the depth to which gaming as a medium can achieve, and proves that games can be potentially more involving than books or films on a spiritual or intellectual level, if anyone wanted to compare, which to be honest I wouldn't.

2 - The Nameless Mod (RPG / Cyberpunk)
Essentially a massive satire of one particular forum but extends itself into a satire of all forums and the internet community in its entirety. Utterly hilarious and clever. A real joy to play. This is one certain truly non-linear game. I said in another topic that it doesn't exist but the more I think about it the more I realise TNM is how to do it. There are linear paths but they wind and often combine with other unrelated paths, creating a web which is your events. It puts self-satisfied 'non-linear' games like Fable to shame. I was considering putting this above DX but after some thought it's probably not quite better, purely because Deus can either be taken seriously or with a sense of humour and still be good, whereas TNM is naturally meant to be taken with a sense of humour. Other info: it's a fan-made game 7 years in the making, and free!

3 - FFIX (RPG / Fantasy)
It has to be the pinnacle of the FF series. There was a surge a high-quality titles from IV to VII then VIII didn't quite hit the critical superiority of the others, but IX was like one more push for glory, and glorious it really is. The game is layered in art, music and theatre, making it like a playable Renaissance. Might even take TNM in the rankings if the 4th disc wasn't so pants.

4 - FFVII (RPG / Fantasy)
The old girl's taken a knock or two but she's still right up there. Critics of the game can be right or sometimes unconvincing, but regardless I've played it through again recently and it still has just the same power as all those years ago. One episode that's stuck with me is meeting Dyne, that scene and fight is just a small example of how moving and well-written the game is. I like to think this is joined with FFIX in terms of rankings but I think IX deserves it more.

5 - Warcraft III (RTS / Fantasy)
Really enjoyable. This game is why extended release dates are good safety measures. Unlike the other games above it, I can't find any faults in this one, however it doesn't have as brilliant a story to put it higher on the list. That said, the story is still engaging and warrants a good few playthroughs on each difficulty. The modding community is still strong and Defence of the Ancients should really be in a game of its own.

Just in case you didn't know, Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends are both based directly on DotA, and Valve is planning to release DotA 2 in 2011.

I can name my first two without a doubt:

1. Final Fantasy X - The most beautiful story ever put to a videogame, and a perfectly developed cast of characters to match. There is no better accomplishment in all videogaming.

2. Vagrant Story - A brilliant plot that keeps the player guessing until the very end matched with a nifty battle system and fun customization.

From there, I can only give the next three in random order:

Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy VI
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

Though I do feel like a bit of a loser for having three FF games in there. If asked again, those last three could easily switch out for Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Chrono Cross or Grandia, depending on my mood.

I'd omit the Mega Man if I were in your place, GMH, but then I found the ZXs to be subpar.

SilverMaduin: Well, actually, I have an idea.

I'll cut out Symphony of the Night. Because, even though it was supremely awesome, the bosses were a bit too easy, and a few interface elements could use improvement.

I really liked MMZX's story, though, and my only complaints with that game were the somewhat-confusing map layout and the lack of more teleporters.

Re your list: I found Portrait to be rather tedious, though, and have too small a castle.

Portrair wins me over as a Castlevania due to the following factors:
Follows from my favourite "Classic" Castlevania - Bloodlines.
Has well executed two character gameplay.
I like the cast and the story.
Wind gets a special mention.
I love the portrait worlds.
The final bossfight is glorious.
Oh, and the music rocks. As in, by Castlevania standards.

Yes, I know it doesn't have SotN's mind-bogglingly HUGE castle and the level of exploration is diminished, but I don't get what you mean by tedious.

@ SilverMaduin: I felt that 100%-ing everything (items, subweapons, fetchquests) and giving tons of fetchquests was tedious. Collecting/upgrading soul powers in Dawn was more fun IMO.

And the castle wasn't big enough. I didn't like how there were these little maps of different areas, and I separately didn't like how the castle wasn't that big. I thought the portrait maps were too big, and I would have preferred more separate areas in the castle to explore.

The music I originally didn't like as much as that of Dawn's, but it's been growing on me, for some reason. I still don't like the inner hallways and treasury area itself, though, even though I now like the music.

I also don't like the music for some of the portrait areas, such as the circus portraits and the first forest portrait. Given the size of those areas...yeah.

5. Super Castlevania IV
This game represents everything I love about Castlevania; it's fun and simple yet challenging, and no, it certainly doesn't need RPG elements and cheesy dialogue to be good.

You feel like you're Simon Belmont in Super Castlevania IV. It's more or less an expansion of the first Castlevania for the NES, but it runs much more smoothly - you can whip in 8 different directions, move while dodging and other things that you couldn't in the original. Because of this, it's somewhat less challenging, but it's fun enough to make up for it and the ending is simply beautiful.

4. Dragon Quest V
I have two confessions to make. The first is that I prefer Dragon Quest over Final Fantasy. The second is that I've only played the DS remake of DQ5. But even so, there's no reason for me to not include this game on the list.

DQ5 has a very heartwarming and fairly unique story that I won't spoil. You start out as a boy out traveling with his father. The plot covers about 20 years and is separated into three "generations" (kid - teen - adult) with time skips in between. The characters you meet in one generation will show up later and you really grow to love them. The dialogue is fun and the party conversations give them a lot more personality. Regarding the battle system, it's pretty much the same as it's always been - but this time, you can recruit monsters a la Pokémon (except that this game preceeded Pokémon, but you get the point).

Note: there will be no more JRPGs on this list. Well, at least not turn-based ones...

3. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
It's time for another confession - I've never been too fond of WRPGs. I don't know, I just find them hard to get into. Morrowind is one of the few exceptions though.

TES3 has a fantastic world that you can't wait to explore once the game starts. It's pretty advanced and I must admit that I still haven't finished the main storyline. The feeling of freedom is there; you can do pretty much anything you want to. A lot of reading is required, but I'm okay with that.

2. Half-Life
Most of you have probably played, or at least heard of, the Half-Life games. This is the game that started it all, and in my opinion, it's a masterpiece.

Gameplay-wise, Half-Life is pretty much what you'd except in a FPS game, but remember that this is a fairly old game and although it wasn't the first in its genre, it set a lot of standards for later FPS games like Halo. The monsters in Half-Life are genuinely horrifying - especially the last boss and those little headcrab bastards. If this game doesn't make you love crowbars, you have no soul.

1. Terranigma
I haven't met many people who have played Terranigma, but everyone who did loved it. I first tried Terranigma via emulation and fell in love. It's rare, but I managed to buy a copy for a cheap price two years ago - it's my pride and joy, so don't touch.

This is an action-RPG for the SNES made by Quintet and released by Enix. The story is set on a mythological Earth. You play as Ark, a teenage boy from the Underworld who opens a box containing the evils of the world, and a pink flying... thing called Yomi. The Elder of his hometown sets him out on an adventure to set things right. He travels to our world via a portal and that's where the REAL adventure begins. First, you have to resurrect plants, birds, animals and humans - and then you have to lead mankind's evolution while saving the planet from a mad scientist. There's a lot of philosophy in the plot and the ending is particularly touching. The music and visuals are very impressive.

As for the gameplay, it's superb. Your weapon is a spear, and there's a lot you can do with it. You'll most likely never use any spells, I dunno why they included a magic system at all. There are a lot of sidequests, most of which require you to help historical people from our world. Doing these sidequests will make the towns develop into modern-day technology. This game is awesome.

That's the end of my favorite games list and if you read it you deserve a medal.

good writing, character development, plot, and storytelling make for a good game. gameplay doesn't hurt, either!

in no particular order: (except #1. my fav. game of all time. i like 7 too, and the flame wars need to stop people!)

5.Metal Gear Solid - While i agree that this series was balls deep amazing, solid 1 was really good at setting a certain atmosphere that blew me away. good characters, too

4.Zelda: Ocarina Of Time - A classic. artistically well presented on its platform and even goes to show, that silent heroes are sometimes the best for the story. it puts the player in the game itself and has a more gripping feel.

3.Halo: Combat Evolved - spartans Vs, Elites, a threat to the world that turned out to be a weapon. exciting turn of events and a badass protagonist.

2.Dragon Age: Origins - with how your character responds, i love this game! it a create a story with personal appeal and accomplishments.

1.Final Fantasy VI - best character development and phenominal storytelling. plus, 14 characters doesn't hurt.
