I saw a post about the pugs in umaros cave and was thinking about different outstanding MIAB's (monster in a box), and was wondering, what are some memories you have of one?

The one that stands out most for me was on my very first playthrough ever, it was on SNES and i was on the floating continent and i opened the box with a gigantos and everyone was dead but shadow and he was low because i forgot to heal up after the previous fight pinch.gif and he throat jabbed shadow and sent me back several hours because i hadn't saved in a very long time sad.gif

Seems like they pop up at the most inopportune times, eh? I think my favorite is the Whelk in Darryl's Tomb. Not particularly tough or anything, I guess I just like the fact that he's holding a treasure chest. I dunno.

I always liked the presenter on the basis that you can instant death him with the chain saw. It was a pleasant surprise the first time I played through FFVI.

I was reading up on that Whelk in Darryl's Tomb and I guess you can cast Break on the shell and it dies instantly. It normally drops the Dragon Claw but it'll drop two if you kill the Whelk and it's shell in the same attack. I never knew.

Telstar messed up my Sabin and Shadow team by casting berserk on them. Physical attacks weren't enough to take it out on my first time round and I got beat. Also, somewhere you press a switch and a ninja lands on your head, I seem to remember having difficulties with him. Lastly, of course the one on the Flying Continent. blush.gif

Hmm,gigantos was a bit dificult because of his massive hits, but nothing beats the annoyance of fighting tonberry

I beat all the chest monsters in ff6 though.

KatanaSoul. Was this a MIAB? I think so, but I may be wrong.

I don't know why, but this guy had the power to kill my party over. And over. And over.

Personally, I loved the monsters in the boxes. But this one as the one I remembered the most, oddly. eh.gif

Getting slaughtered by Gigantos the first time I fought it. Also, barely beating Master Pug.

My fondest MiaB memory was the moment I realised that I could Muddle KatanaSoul and he'd 1shot himself...oh, those were the days...

I loved to battle without magic, items or anything else used for aiding.

I went Rambo and fought until the last breath before healing laugh.gif

My first encounter with Gigantos, with a very much unaware and unprepared party, which went something like this:

"OhSHI---"

Gigantos was a good battle, but I remember one that was really good. I can't remember the name, but it was a worthy battle! tongue.gif

I'm so embarassed I never thought of that, yet so excited to try it.

Yeah, I always run from those guys. I think there was one in the cave to the Ancient Castle that always destroyed me that I consistently forgot about, which sucked because the save point was quite far away from his throes!

3 of them are of equal relevance and frustration:
- Gigantos, for his LUDICROUS Throat Jabs, until I just Vanish'd my party
- Pugs, because they're Level 9-goddamned-9 and trying to steal a Minerva from them is beyond my capacity to have a headache
- KatanaSoul for the same reason as pugs, and also because he obtains Image status when he "powers up" and becomes stupid hard to hit/steal from.
