Yes, you read that correctly. Pokemon will officially begin its fifth generation this fall with Pokemon Black and Pokemon White for the Nintendo DS. A worldwide release is inevitable, but for now has no official date. Nintendo will reveal more in a press conference on 15 April.

The second source listed here is an unconfirmed leaked image of the Pokemon found in the game. It seems genuine, but it should not be assumed true as of yet.

The last pokemon I bought was sapphire, the last before what was yellow. I was thinking about getting either platinum or the silver/gold remake soon, but now it seems like they'll be obsolete soon and I should just wait for the US release of these. I do like the color choices though, it went from the simple red and blue through most precious metals and jewels that I can name, but this is so simple. Cut and dry. But will the inevitable third incarnation of this generation be gray? Because that's kind of lame.

Man, you have me beat FallingHeart. I haven't played since Silver!

But still, this is great news laszlow, thanks for posting. I've always considered Pokemon to be one of my favorite games ever, and my second favorite RPG behind VI.

And also, just got a DS! So this'll be awesome.

It's great that these games are still around. I think every generation of RPG gamers should play at least one Pokemon game, and if it keeps up, they will. However, it's kind of getting ridiculous with all these hundreds of Pokemon. I mean sure, this game doesn't have all the previous Pokemon from earlier games, but couldn't they just reuse the same ones? It's kind of like the zelda series when you think about it, just the same game being remade in a different way over and over. It's cool and all, but for once I wish I could be on Team Rocket's side.

Hahaha, awesome. This might be just what I need to get back into pokemon! Hopefully they finally made a Ghost/Steel type for me! I'm rooting for a ghost underneath a manhole lid. He'd be great.

I'm intrigued by the title. I'm hoping for a choice between dark and normal type starters. Haha. Worst idea ever.

You know what, that's actually not bad! I mean, they haven't used those colors yet.

My thoughts exactly. Of course, I'm pretty far out of the loop.

Ever since Gold and Silver I've been hoping that there is a trio of starters that are Fighting, Psychic, and Dark. It would make my year. But it's almost certainly not happening.

That looks really cool, because, I've always said the best part of Pokemon is the immersion. So, technology has perhaps helped the series.

Wait, another thought I just had. The original games were basically in black and white. And they did mention the word retro in that article. Perhaps the title is a throwback?

Exactly why I suggested the. I was going to go with Purple and Indigo, but Indigo is already a taken name, Turquoise is a gem name, Lavender is taken, and Yellow-Green and Vivid Tangerine and Brick Red won't do.

Perhaps Brown is another possibility..

I had a feeling that pokedex was fake. I mean seriously, who makes that many new ice types? wink.gif

Plus...Stoneon is a little too blatant, even for Nintendo.

The main reason I thought that it was fake (although my hopes were up for a bit) was that all of those Eeveelutions were so lame. Four is too many, first of all, and there's no way the new ones would be that hideous.

There is also no way I am getting this anytime soon. I still want to play Heart Gold / Soul Silver, and I need an Arceus, a Shaymin, and a few others before my Diamond dex is full.

EDIT: My personal hope is for a Ground-Eevee and a Ghost-Eevee. I'd train the **** out of that. And I must say, one/two pokemon from that list I regret isn't real is Moofy.

I completely forgot, SoulSilver's release date snuck by me. I planned on getting that before I get a fourth gen. game, so I can get back into the series.

I'm not sure about that entire new Pokedex... Some of those looked kinda silly. I do know that the last two on there (Zorua and Zoroark) are real. They have been revelaed to be the stars of the next movie, nimber 13, titled "Phantom Warrior Zoroark" or somesuch.

Edit
Upon closer inspection of the alleged Pokedex, they got Steelix's type wrong, labeling him as Rock/Ground instead of Steel/Ground. This tells me it is most likely just a very elaborate fake.

That Pokedex is from a hack game. I remember seeing it before. It's all pallet swaps and pixel-splicing.

I figured, they wouldn't release that info so soon, would they?

It was definitely fake. They basically took Zorua and Zoroark and made up the rest.

Here are the two player-characters and the three starters. Tsutaaja ("Ivy Snake"), Pokabu ("pig fire oink") and Mijumaru (a sea otter, whose name is some kind of pun that isn't easily translated). This news arose a few days ago, from Corocoro magazine scans:

Player-characters
Tsutaaja, Pokabu, and Mijumaru

It's also worth nothing that Tsutaaja has been the subject of internet memes lately. Just look up its unofficial English nickname "Smugleaf."

Is it just me or are the trainers following the same route as the Pokemon and looking less and less original?

I think the new trainers look really cool. Probably my favorite since (original) G/S/C.

The new starters, on the other hand, are bad. They look stupid, not cute.

I like the grass and fire starters well enough, but the water one looks real stupid. I really liked the Diamond/Pearl starters, though, so murrrr. And the trainers, well, I never care that much about how the trainers look. I think they're supposed to be a little generic since they're player-characters. That's how Pokemon works. Honestly, I dunno if I'll be getting these right away. I'll probably wait for the Crystal/Emerald/Platinum of the trio or something.

And as to which starter I like best, I'll probably look at stats, sadly. I like starters with a lot of offense, whether it's a sweeper or a tank.
