Nobody wants Syracuse to win it all. Pick against them here:
http://y.ahoo.it/aChMImLh You shouldn't need the group info using that link, but just in case: Group: 8857 Group Name: CoNCAA Group Password: flanprincess Selection Sunday is on March 14, and the first games that count take place on the 18th, so you'll have the evening (American EST) of the 14th until just before noon (again, American EST) to get your picks in for every game of the tournament. If you have questions, ask in here so one of the many CoNCAA veterans can help you out. Otherwise, I'm going back to my holiday and my lovely wife's birthday today. Note: prize will be determined after we get all the signups in. And here's a widget to use to watch games or get stats once the games start on Thursday: This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 16th March 2010 00:17 -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Up to eight already, not a bad start. Seriously, though, if you even read this, you should get in on it. Nobody's going to mock you if you fail, and even the people who have been doing this for years don't always do well.

Ah brilliant! March is a bad month for coursework but a great month for sport. I'm in as 'If I Win I Will Eat My Shoes' to tempt fate a little. I'm not going to decide on a pair yet for the same reason.

OK, we're up to nineteen so far. Still ten shy of last year's final number, I think, but the games don't start for another week. So, make sure you get in, and if you don't know quite how it works, I'll post some resources after the picks can be made (Sunday night American time, roughly).
Here are the players so far:
If you know someone who normally plays but hasn't signed up yet, reach out to them. I know a lot of people just don't check the email that Yahoo has for them, even though they might want to play. Everyone on Syracuse, indeed. Including Georgetown.
Two new players since yesterday's post, the aforementioned Sasquatch playing as "Arctic Foxes love Wisconsin," and long time player and onetime staffer Super Moogle, as "LOL Maryland Part 2 - LOL ACC." Most of those guys will show up and participate, even if they're not around much any more. Why is it that it works this way, but we don't get much new blood from year to year? Surely among the younger members and/or older members who are still new to the site, some must like NCAA basketball or are willing to try something new? Surely not all of them care only about Final Fantasy and never pay attention to anything else? Time to branch out, kiddos. I'm in as My Gut Says UConn-UNC in honor of the fact that I've watched less college basketball than any year since I have cable. It's a combination of the Bulls and Blackhawks both being watchable again.

OK, we're up to
For those of you who aren't quite clear on how it goes, this is the tournament for Men's College Basketball here in the US. The winner of this tournament is the national champion for the year, and the span of this tournament is one of the biggest sporting events of the year every year. People cheer for their hometown universities, the schools they went to or go to, or for any school they care about. It's called "March Madness" because it is the kind of sporting event where just about anyone can win some games, and there are a lot of David and Goliath matches that take place every year. The way the tournament works is this; there are 65 teams to start, who get in based on winning their conference tournament (think of it as a smaller tournament with a reward for the winner) or based just on how good they did over the course of the season. The "worst" two teams in have a "play in" game at the beginning to see who gets the honour of playing the "best" team in the tournament. The remaining 64 teams, starting this Thursday at noon American Eastern time, play each other in a single elimination tournament - lose and you're done playing for the year. In a few weeks, we'll have a national champion. This is where our brackets come in. Starting right now, if you've signed up, you can go to Yahoo and see a the whole bracket of 64 teams. Each team has a number beside its name, which is how good, relatively, the people who pick the teams think a team is; this is called the "seed." Higher seeds are, allegedly, better, so a 3 should be a better team than a 12. However, like I say, a lot of things can happen in this tournament, so you can't just always pick the higher seeds and expect to win. What you need to do is pick a team for every single game in the tournament. You do this by clicking a team's name or clicking and dragging the name up the ladder. Every time you click a team's name, it will move up the ladder a bit closer to the center. You aren't done until there's a team on every single line, and you have a team name in the box that says "National Champion." You also need to fill in scores in the very center, for the tiebreaker. On this, you look at the two teams that you have in the national championship game in the center, and you guess how many points each team will score in that game. Once all that's done, you click the big yellow button at the top that says "Save Bracket." I suggest doing your initial picks right away, because once you have picks in place, you can edit them until the first game starts on Thursday; however, if you leave any blank, and the first game has started, you're screwed: all picks are final as of the time the first game starts. Blank picks get you no points. The number of points you get, gets bigger with every round for right picks. You get one point for the first tier of games, for instance, and two for the second tier of games, and so on. At the end of it all, the player with the most points is the winner. If you have any other questions, post them here or find one of the players who have played a lot in chat. It's me, it's Neal, it's footbigmike, it's Kappa, it's a variety of folks. Finally, here are some links to help you in your research or guessing: http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/nba/news?s...ney_primer_2010 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Men%27s_...ll_Championship http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_NCAA_Men...ball_Tournament http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/ This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 16th March 2010 19:11 -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I hate the South Region. I wouldn't pick a single team in it to go to the sweet 16 in any other region.

I dislike the path Duke has before them, much less any team in the region.
