I almost newsposted this, but decided not to because: it's an unconfirmed rumor, despite being from an accurate insider; it's not connected to Square-Enix or even RPGs at all; and it doesn't nearly possess the impact across multiple gaming circles than, say, the Starcraft 2 rumor from a few years back. But here it is:
In October of last year, the internet newsmonger Henaki correctly identified the ten new characters arriving in Super Street Fighter 4. This was months before the final announcement of Hakan, and as Henaki's predictions became true his reputation as a major Capcom insider (or more correctly, a friend of multiple insiders) grew. Henaki's at it again with a second major announcement, and a third smaller announcement. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be announced in May of this year. And Super Street Fighter 4 will have a PC version. Apparently they've been working on this game at the playtesting level for close to a year. Personally, I find this news to be incredible, but I also hope that they rebuild the engine from the ground up, because some of the X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Darkstalkers 3 sprites in MvC2 look like ass. Cheers! Source: http://teamspooky.com/content/?p=299 Quote (millions of button mashers) PROTON CANNON This post has been edited by laszlow on 31st March 2010 03:23 -------------------- |

Funny, I've kinda bumped into the opposite recently. It looks like Capcom wants to but Marvel isn't quite so sure.
On the other hand, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was always a relatively popular cabinet to my knowledge and one of the longest lived to boot, so I can't imagine the online sales would be too low. There's probably profit to be had for both sides so I wouldn't be too surprised really. It's the only outright fighter I've ever preferentially drop coins into. I really want to have at least some version of the game myself and I'm not quite a fighting game fan, so I kinda wonder how this'll play out. Personally, I was hoping MvC3 would be a bleeding edge 2D game like its predecessor. However with the recent transition of the Street Fighter series to 3D, I find that highly unlikely. A bit of a shame really since I'm sure there's still a whole lot of awesome stuff they could do in that direction. I'd imagine something that looks kinda like Odin Sphere would work out very well and the marvel half of the roster can't be very refined, since they've only had 'full access' to the characters for two game. Edit It is now definitively in the works. Not only did MTV do a report on it but there's also a trailer. Nice catch Laszlow. You're up with the times.
