As those of you have been around for a while no doubt know, I pay for a chunk of CoN's server costs (as well as for other stuff I need to keep CoN running) by farming my services out on a freelance basis. I just launched one of these sites last month, and in the interest of building links up to go into this site, I thought I'd share it here:
Resource Management of Western New York, Inc. It's pretty simple and not exactly what I was expecting when I first started drawing it up, but it's my first site running on the Drupal engine and I think it really turned out pretty nicely for having no experience with the engine heretofore. Note: This is a live site, so please don't use the forms or anything like that if you go to visit. ![]() -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Aaah Drupal... the very name makes my head ache... well actually, to be honest I've had a headache all morning...
Anyway, the site looks really nice. I like the design. Two things I noticed, though: for some reason, when I load the page, I sometimes have to click the links in the nav menu first before they become links and rollover like they're supposed to (it's weird, I know: I'm using FFox 3.5, on winXP), and also, you might want to remind them to make a favicon for the site too. But I would consider those two things pretty minor, as the former may not be reproducible by you, and the latter is a small detail. So all in all, I commend you for your patience in learning the Drupal system, and congratulate you on the site. ![]() -------------------- Oh tell me why Do we build castles in the sky |

Actually, I did make a custom favicon that looks like it got nerfed when I updated to Drupal 6.14 last week. Certainly irritating that I didn't notice that before. I'll have to go poking around backups here in a bit.
The navigation, being done in Flash using siFR, might be impacted by plugins you're using in Firefox. I haven't had any issues with them myself, but there's always the chance that something can happen client side that can cause it to go wonky. It is Flash, after all, eh? Also, I actually quite like Drupal. I have at least one site in Wordpress that I think would do quite well to be converted over, if I thought I'd ever get any business from it at all. Maybe it's just a difference between how you and I would use it differently, but I think with the exception of the confusing way in which Views work, it's really a pretty straight-forward system. In any event, thanks for the feedback. ![]() -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Finally had the chance to remove all the Flash from the site and replace it all with embedded fonts called via CSS, as a part of making some other design tweaks. It's SO much nicer now.

It looks great, although the general scheme of it appears to be a bit more like a holistic medicine site than anything industrial or governmental(?) to me. The holistic crowd tends to overlap with the environmentalists and does fit with that whole preserve the earth angle if that's what they're going for. Government sites tend to look rather horrid anyway.
There are a couple things that irks me though. The first is that, with these sorts of warmish colors I'd imagine it'd be better if all of the layout's angles were rounded to better mesh with the already familial feel? Eh, it's a very marginal detail and I've only noticed it now, which is about the half-dozenth time I've given a look over at the site (Other attempts to give commentary have ended in distraction or disruption). The other is how their own images generally aren't framed, which disrupts the otherwise perfectly flowing color with blotches of white or the like. I think the one pixel green border directly around the ones on the same images at their homepage is great. Is there any reason why those two have it while all the others don't? Aside from that it's a wonderful looking site. The layout is easy to navigate and well outlined, the color scheme is perfectly matched and easy on the eyes, and the tree in the background breaks up the monotony rather nicely as well. I must say it's nice to see some of your other work and also, good job! ![]() -------------------- |
