I gotta ask, it seems that nobody is posting about it, but my local gamestop had copies already, and I'm curious, is it good?

I'm still in my, "I'm never taking Guitar Hero out of my DS" phase, so I'm reluctant to buy another game at the moment. So I'm looking for some honest opinnions. Tell us what's up, just don't mention any spoilers. tongue.gif

Funny, I was just thinking of making a topic for this. So far, I've loved the game.

The gameplay has had more of an overhaul than it appears. Jobs have a deferent way of opening them and all the new ones along with some of the most advances ones you must complete a mission to unlock. The laws are also improved to where obaying them lands you booty from you judge and abonus effect while breaking them leads to being unable to revive people for the battle. Some bosses even ocupy more than one panal.

The Baazar is an interesting way to unlock Items. The First Advance you could easily buy the best equipment and enjoy killing things. Now you have to have nessacary items to make items to use. Some of them you only get one of to buy, mainly the Ultima weapons and rare armor. I am loving the sheilds now due to no unlimited assoreies.

The Auction House I organily hated because you can't fight for turf now. Now after a bit I have enjoyed betting chips to earn land. I also got a ribbon from it so I'm happy...

The Missions have much more variaty to them now as you can do more than battle and dispatch. You can do errains for people by moving accros the map along with searching for Items.

The story is better than the First as well, as even the missions have a little bit as you reconize characters you've been with or against before as even characters with a basic job have their unique portait.

It's a blast in my first 30 hours of it. I think this game is currently my "I'm never taking Guitar Hero out of my DS" phase. wink.gif

I have mighty good feelings toward this game. I am highly tempted to get this game, but do you have to only use touch screen to navigate or can you just use buttons.

You can do Either or. I prefer the buttons. It works anywhere.

Also, forgot to mentioned the new Races. They don't have many jobs, but they don't need that many. Gria's make great units on height terrain and the Seeq I have has his uses, as they can kill people with a Phinox Down. shifty.gif

Well I was in the process of Pearls in the Deep and that quest is really hard.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Suck in is one of the most rigged abilities I've seen in a game to date.

Currently I'm using some of the jobs on people I wouldn't normally use just so i can get some of the better jobs like ninja.

But one quick question, does anyone know who the proper character to use (i.e. race and job) for the shining the mace thing and the escort quest. Does anyone know how to do these?

Does it keep the same learning style as FFTA/ FFIX, (via weapons) or is there another method to that?

Its mostly weapons, but some armors can give some abilities.

Did anyone else think the quest to unlock the Fulisier(moogle gun class) was hard?

My tanks were able to survive the Fulisiers so that wasn't too hard. I think the harder class quests are the Ravanger, you fight the Pearls in the Deep boss again at a level where it's HP exceeds 999, and The Geomancer's quest involve 4 battles. My favorite new job for Hume's the Parivir, AKA Samurai. Ablities to learn can even be on Helmets and Assesories.

The best way to fight that boss is to surround him with counters and heal with cure, which won't hit him because of height difference. The tuffest story battle I've fought is against someone with no cost abilities including a blast zone dark ability and with their armor they absorb it, who has plunty of renforcements including a charater with Double sword. Ack! I hated that battle!

As in most FFT games... (You know, all TWO of them before this one tongue.gif ) Do you have the ability to utilize a thief that can steal epic-ly from your storyline foes from an early point?

I guess my question really is: the weapon that imparts the thief ability Steal:Weapon... is it hard to get?

I think when I did the fusiler class i was trying to level up abilities to unlock some of the other classes. This morning I beat Pearls of the Deep after leveling about 9 or so levels(Adelle only got 4 pinch.gif .... I need to level her some more). What happened was I didnt use my Nu Mou so healing was only potions(My other White mage is a sniper right now) And it just took some time.

@ Leilong: I dont know if there is a steal weapon. The easiest ability they can get is steal gil, and then steal items. There might be, but I'm not really that far.

How far in the game is it until I can get a second animist ability?

Since items are based on loot, it really depends on what you manage to acquire. I'm more than 100 quests in (hooray, >25% completion!), so I can't remember if and when I nabbed that second Animist ability, but I can confirm some things about the Thief class. Firstly, it's an awesome one to include if you want to unlock new stuff; the abilities I have mastered are as follows:

Steal Gil
Steal Items
Loot Lv1
Loot Lv2
Steal Limelight
Steal Accessory

With the Loot abilities, you can nab some items from a monster, then kill it off (or better, use a Hunter's Hunting ability to poach it) to get even more. This makes unlocking new items in the Bazaar a lot easier, as well as allowing you to repeat accessory recipes more frequently. You can usually use the same steal ability multiple times on the same target, with a decreased chance of succeeding for each item you've previously taken (50% for the first, 25% for the second, based on experiments with Loot Lv1 and Steal Items). Inflicting Sleep doubles your chances of success, but does not automatically make them 100%.

To answer yomama's earlier question, the class you want for the Shining the Maces quest is a Green Mage, one of the new Viera classes. I imagine that a Nu Mou Sage might work as well, as those two classes both wield maces; the requirement is hinted at in the quest description, but not explicitly stated.

Well, I did it again...

I opened a thread about a game I was already 90% sure I was gonna get, got a couple reviews, a couple questions about the game by people who have it, and I bought it too. tongue.gif

I've hardly broken into it so far (haven't even changed any jobs yet!), but I love it already. It feels like FFTA right off the bat, but the environments are so cool!

Also, I'm a fan of field treasures. That's a cool concept, as I think of FFTA as a chess-like strategy game, as you traverse a grid to attack, and it's typically suicide to unintentionally drag a piece into the middle of nowhere, but totally worth it for the items earned.

Also, in the loot department: Is there some way of telling the rank of each type of loot without having to select it to use in the bazzar? It's not really a big hassle, but I'd like to be able to tell without trading whether my loot is ranked E, B, DEF, etc.

Either way, fun as hell so far, and I haven't even gotten far enough to have plot back me up on that one yet! tongue.gif

Yay more new Jobs!! And leilong, I don't think there is anyway to tell what rank loot is without going to the bazzar.

So last night I was in the bazaar and I got about 3 more moogle knight abilities which I took no hesitiation in trying to learn cause moogle knight is one of my favorite classes. This morning I started Bangaa Bugle: Silversun and the quest itself isnt hard, just really annoying. Espicially when one of them has magic shield as a passive ability.

I'm really enjoying FFTA2 a lot, so much that I'm simply going around questing and not really focusing on the storyline quests. I've completed somewhere around 60 quests, and the most recent story quest I've finished is Pearls In The Deep. I haven't had the opportunity to have any Seeq or Gria join my party yet, even though I've unlocked jobs for each of them - I really want a couple of Gria because some of their jobs look really cool.

Question about Ninjas, as I just got my fourth thief ability from the Bazaar and had Luso learn it - do they not have Two-Hands innate? I'm trying to give him two weapons and the game won't allow it.

Also, I need to add that the soundtrack is totally awesome. It's my second-favorite DS soundtrack after The World Ends With You, but the epicness of it is nearly trumping the original FFT. I realize that some of the tracks have actually returned from FF12, but I really appreciate how they keep the same sort of feel throughout the music of all the Ivalice Alliance games.

I like the Gria because of their wings, and the Seeq? Well, They have the Sword of Darkness abiltiy, so Dark Knightish time! I'm about 120 some missions in with one line left in the Grimore to saver.

Unlike FFT and like FFTA no jobs have innate abilities, so you need to find the weapons for them. I have one character with that ability, but they have it from the git-go so I have yet to see the weapon for it yet.

For Magic Shield, thankfully the damage carries over, I don't have it yet but I'm liking the basic counter and avoid abilities.

For jobs, I believe the only job I'm missing is the Seer for Hume.

Oh, and Cid can equip ribbons now, which I have 4 of, hehehe...

I'm sorta glad you can't steal weapons and that stuff in this one, mainly because of the guilty pleasure in the first FFTA of striping everything off of the enemy. shifty.gif

That is my favorite things to do... sad.gif

Why would they ever take that out? It's also one of the best ways to get harder-to-find weapons and armor, or more copies, if you only get 1 or 2 gameplay wise.

Not gonna lie... that's going to be a real down point to this game.

The weapon you're looking for to learn Dual Wield is Ragetsu-denbu, which I found in a treasure chest in battle. I don't know if you can acquire it through the bazaar yet, but if you can, I imagine it'll be one of those recipes you have to repeat in order to get multiples of the item.

Out of curiosity, has anyone stumbled across the recipe for Fairy Shoes? I found one pair so far, and I really want to get more. I ignored them in favor of movement boosting footwear last time, and since I'll eventually be able to boost movement using a Privilege, I think I'd like the ability to ignore terrain.

Weapon name: Ragetsu-denbu
How to get: Bazaar [Sharp-edged Katana] *A* (Low Arcana, Gun Gear, Screamroot)

Gamefaqs has decent information on this game. But i couldnt find any information on fairy shoes though.

Does anyone else think that the trade system is lame? They could really do it without having someone else being there, and it be exactly the same.

Has anyone gotten the chance to use an esper yet? On one mission I had the chance but i didnt know what any of the accessories did.

Vaan, Penelo and Al-Cid are in this game. Vaan has a Hume job list and has his own Sky Pirate class. Penelo has a Virea job class and her own Dancer class (Tribute to the FFT Dancer class). Al-Cid I'm assuming has a Hume job class and the Agent class. The jobs also arn't hidden because some equipment teaches new abilities they don't know.

I know Vaan and Penelo are playable because I have them and I've battled Al-Cid. Vaan has Vigalance as a support (Attacking anywhere on the character counts as a front attack. Penelo has Cura, Critical : Quicken and Halve MP learned.

There's also two characters from the last one, not sure if their playable though.

There's also a new Female Hume that can join you who has Double Sword.

Also, Vaan and Penelo can be recruited when there is one line left in the grimore to fill.

Thanks yomama for the recipe for the Double sword weapon; got the items for it and built one. thumbup.gif

So I've been slacking off my Guitar Hero-ing and Rock Band-ing to be a recluse in my room and play this game. Umm... yea... too much fun. I'm at work right now, and it's in my pocket... just in case... tongue.gif wink.gif

So I've had some issues so far, such as not getting the necessary items to teach my mages 2nd level spells??? I have the thunder rod and the Cura rod, but somehow seem to be lacking the items to fashion myself a fire rod or ice rod, so I have Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, and Thundara - clearly 1 spell short of the 5 Black Mage Spell requirement on many high level magic jobs. Thank god Sages only need 4, but as it is, my main Nu Mou is out of things to learn. Every Job, skill, and equippable item possible has been purchased or earned, but without that 5th BM spell, I'm essentially locked out.

Also, I got the Cannoneer job before the Gunner job... sad.gif THAT was useful. dry.gif
(Sorry, I can't remember the dumb names they give it, Fusiller or something.)

I also had a question regarding questing to post to the users here:

Do you take 1-3 quests at a time, or do you fill up and try to do everything in a 20 day period? I've found myself taking on 11-14 quests at once, and then tactfully finding ways to traverse the map without going over my time limit. I've pulled it off successfully once, and I have 6 days left to do 4 quests now. Mostly what I've found tho, is that by about quest 10/12, you're saying to yourself, "Wow, wonder if I have enough items to Bazaar something good up to help in the last few quests," but you're so far away from civilization at that point, that going to a town would doom you. tongue.gif

Well, I've been in Texas for the past 10 days or so. And I've done quite a bit of questing. As of now all my good characters but 2(Just got them yesterday and wednesday) are in the 40's. I like Hurdy, bards are a nice class to have. I started having him mastering thief and tinker abilities so i could make him a juggle/bard.

@ Leilong: What levels are you? Most the ara's don't appear until your in your late 10's early 20's. And I'm more of a 1-3 quest guy myself.

I usually only take one or two quests at a time, myself, and I visit the bazaar only after completing a full set of five quests. I set that limit for myself because otherwise I'd spend most of my time doing one quest, then racing to the bazaar to be disappointed by the lack of new items, doing another quest, etc.

Weird, that also happened to me as well.

Well, I've exceeded 107 hours on my first file and have 249 missions completed. Mostly everyone in my party , all 21 of them, are at Level 40, with Luso at level 61.

Also, how in the world do you complete all those Wanted missions! That's my main problem is that I can't get my characters to succeed them!
I think soon my first Gria will master everything she can. Now I'm starting to wish they had more... If you see a mission for saving a white cat, do it and gain the coolest mage job for your humes.

I Still want my Multiplayer... sad.gif

Some of my favorite Item Quotes!

Rubber Suit : "Lightning never strikes twices. This suit's designer knows even once is too often."

Ribbon: "Sticks and stones may break your bones, but this will protect you from almost everything else."

Brevis: "Cannon also named 'the Shining Life.' Odd, considering its purpose."

Giot Gun: "The only thing wider than the barrel on this gun is the hole it leaves in your enemies."

Osafune "The problem with iron helms is the weight and the heat- and the fact this sword cuts right through them."

Defender: "Frills are for dresses, not swords. A pratical sword for practical swordsmen."

and...

Maiden's Kiss: "A fruity concoction that works better than its namesake, or at least, doesn't require convincing the maiden.

Is the Gria a plot addition at a certain point? I still don't have one... sad.gif And their Wing-a-lings look soooo good for quick map traversement.

I recently unlocked the second area of the map (accessable by airship) and had Luso start dreaming about his old life. How crappy is it that for memory purposes, the characters have "talk bubbles" appear, and nothing really said. dry.gif

I've got my Fire and Ice rods, and have actually gotten to the point that there is never anything new in the bazzar for me.

I have my first Seeq, and he's a ranger... and it's AMAZING! AI is so dumb, in the sense that you plant a trap right next to yourself, and then turn your back to it and the enemies, and sure enough, someone will walk right up behind you to hit you, and... OH! Silence instead. tongue.gif

By my latest thing is Mirror Items, which has to be the most broken ability in the game. I went and bought a ton of X-Potions just for this ability. I recently did the quest to get the Spellblade job, where you have to fight 10 Vieras of varying jobs, and their levels are between 20 - 25. Three of them had a max HP of 199(!) and 2 had an even 200. Shazaam! My Seeq single-handedly dropped half of the enemies from full to KO in single shots.

I then did the second Wyrm quest with the green mage (that wanted to capture it to prove to her dad that she had defeated it), and it's on that ultra steep cliff map, all you have to do is drop it to Critical HP, and it has 446 HP. My Seeq has Spiked boots on, so he was able to hop up the mountain, and X-potion the Wyrm twice (dropping him to critical), before any of my other characters could even walk the second length of the base of the mountain to take the shallow grade path. And since i'm at a point where no new weapons are appearing, it's cost effective for me to keep filling up on X-Potions, so he's the ultimate, and if he can't get to an opponet in one move, I just drop a trap and turn my back. biggrin.gif

Leilong: Have you got Item Lore yet? Makes Mirror Items even better. And I'm not sure if Gria are a storyline addition, although I have about three storyline quests left.

Has anyone else gotten MP Channeling yet? It makes it so you get 20 MP each turn instead of 10 allowing you to easily access 3rd level spells when ever you want.

Right now I'm just doing a bunch of quests. I stole an Orb of Minwu today during one of the the Chita Weaponers which means equip ribbon! Yay!

Hey, if you master an ability in Chococraft, can every chocobo use it?

The only Item Lore ability I think I have at the moment is for Nu Mous only. I'm still way early on in my Item collection, I'm just not getting the last parts of item sets to earn anything new at the moment.

I'm taking my initial Viera down the spellblade path now, as she's learned every available Fencing, Red Mage, and Elementalist ability I can get. I still live and die by Fire Whip and Wind Slash, and find White flame more useful that having to equip white magic on my offensive mages. (as I usually have Black Mage/Sage combo on my main Nu Mou)

Which leads me to another thought, do people/creatures weak to fire get amplified healing from White Flame? Like say, if everyone is Oiled, will they heal more? Or will they heal more if they are set to Absorb fire, because I fail to see the point of a curative to be an element other than holy (as they use the same symbol for holy element and cure/cura/curaga). Will somebody please put me out of my curiosity misery? tongue.gif
