Have you found this causing you to do certain things or keeping you from doing certain other things?
I've found that I run into this a lot. On one hand there are things that don't matter, such as declaring myself a fan of a character or being a member of a club--for characters that are obscure, I sometimes feel like I need to be a torchbearer of sorts, and same goes for very small clubs. (Though in some cases, a small club also allows me greater freedom to decide what I want the club to do, so there might be a personal-interest stake there.) On the other hand, there are also pretty important things, such as me wondering whether going to class really late or missing it altogether will piss off my professor more... -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I try to avoid doing something based on what someone else will think. I don't like to exploit other people or do something that would annoy someone without any justification. However, I'm confrontational enough to stand by anything I do if I feel that it's justified, even if it is exploitation or annoying for someone. Actually I take it a bit too far sometimes. Maybe I'm a bit too confrontational. For example some of my friends were getting a bit annoyed at how I wouldn't attend any classes but still do better than all of them in the exams and essays. I explained that I was still doing a lot of work on my own but I just couldn't be bothered going in when I thought the lecturer or tutor wasn't helping. I wouldn't start going to class just to satisfy them. Actually, I'm surprised I even bothered giving an explanation. I don't care about other people's feelings in this kind of regard. If they've got a problem with something they should sort it out themselves instead of coming to me about it. That's pretty much my philosophy on doing things or not doing things for other people's feelings. Selfish, yes, but f that it's been working for me for years.
