I thought he looked demi-human as well, or maybe it was just the "Imperial Crown" . But at least he has better style than Cid "wierd name" That guy has worse style than Kefka.

Yeah, I always thought the sprite looked like a dog and until a short time ago I was actually quite convinced that he was in fact a dog. Now I guess there must be something wrong with my perception, because I can still see the dog even though I know he's a human.

I used to be a dog washer and I certainly know what you're talking about. Between the way the imperial crown makes it look like he has long floppy ears, and the way his long 'stache droops down, he definitely looks like a Maltese, havanese, or maybe a sheepdog wearing a hat. He's probably a Maltese, as they're the most famously known and high maintenance dogs who try to bite the most while you're trying to help them. Just a guess... Anyway, here's his sprite from the avatar gallery just for comparison:

I never noticed it. It's interesting however, and I guess he does look more normal without the hat thing.

It does look somewhat better, although only very very vaguely. However, during my retake, I've just kinda started to notice that because you can't see his arms, the way he stands up looks a large big lot like the way a dog sits down, with his legs being his forelegs and his cape being his hind legs or at least where his hind legs would be. The odd coloration differences are due to a dog-knit sweater, because yes, they do make sweaters for dogs. They're quite popular infact, at least for the smaller breeds anyway. Also, his necklace could be interpreted as a collar... Really, somebody needs to make a doggie Ghestal outfit and pitch it to square. I'd be quite the good laugh to be had.

To me he looks like someone from a cheesey 70's/80's kung fu movie, and whenever I read his dialogue, I always imagine his voice has some horrible yet hilarious dubbing, like Betty from Kung Pow.

LOL! I never noticed that before! Ghestal the dog... wow. Now that I look at the sprite again, I can definitely see the dog head now. With the 'stache and his power and his in-your-face attitude, he always seemed to me to give off a 'Chinese Emperor version of Hulk Hogan' vibe.

Yeah I've been playing through the game for my wife and the first thing she said about Gestahl was "he looks like a dog".

I too was on the dog path. I still find it tough to see what they were actually going for - MagitekElite's dog picture is EXACTLY what I see to this day.
