Ever found an inconsistency in a Final Fantasy plot? Ever wanted to let someone know what it was? Well here's the place. Here are most of the ones I've found. Spoilers, obviously.

FFIV:

Inconsistency:
How did everyone know about the Giant of Babil in advance enough to assemble a unified, global assault? Possible Explanation: None come to mind.

FFVI:

Inconsistency:
How did Cyan, Gau and Sabin share a single diving helmet? Possible Explanation: It's a one-size-fits-all helmet?

Inconsistency:
If Setzer is such an experienced gambler, why didn't he make Celes show him both sides of the coin before agreeing to the bet? Possible Explanation: None come to mind.

FFVII:

Inconsistency:
If Shinra rebuilt Nibleheim after the reactor crisis, why didn't anyone actually SEE the town being rebuilt after the fire? Possible Explanation: None come to mind.

FFIX:

Inconsistency:
You honestly mean to tell me that nobody decided to launch an expedition beyond the Mist Continent using a non-Mist-powered vehicle? Possible Explanation: The use of practical, non-Mist-powered engines is still being perfected?

Inconsistency:
How did Tantalus get the Prima Vista back from the Evil Forest at the end of the game? Possible explanation: They built a replica.

Inconsistency:
If black mages are tools of war, why were the given the ability to reproduce, shown as Vivi having FIVE SONS. Possible Explanation: None come to mind.

FFX:

Inconsistency:
How do the blitzball players and Rikku breath underwater? Possible Explanation: They don't. Spirans can just hold their breath for exceedingly long periods of time. Alternatively, Blitzball players are trained to hold their breath, and Rikku learned to do it for Al Bhed excavation misssions.

FFXIII:

Inconsistency:
Why didn't Sazh summon his Eidolon when he and Vanille were being kept prisoner aboard the Palamecia? Possible Explanation: None come to mind.

Inconsistency:
If Lightning gave her gunblade to a PSICOM officer on Day I3, how did she get it back before the opening sequence? Possible Explanation: None come to mind.

Inconsistency:
Why didn't Fang summon Bahamut to fly the group over Taejin's Tower? Possible Explanation: None come to mind.

I'll add a few to your list:

FFVII:
Inconsistency:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Aeris kicks the bucket, but there seems to be plenty of phoenix downs.

Explanation:Well...Because it just needed to be done to send Cloud over the edge?? blink.gif

FFX:
Inconsistency #1: Wouldn't Blitzball players' baggy shorts cause drag when swimming underwater??
Explanation: Tetsuya Nomura likes baggy shorts, and you're not cool if you don't comply tongue.gif

Inconsistency #2:During the rendered sequence where Tidus jumps out of water to kick the ball, wasn't he going out of bounds for a goal kick??
Hairbrained Explanation: BUT IT LOOKS SO COOOOOOL!!!1!!!11!

There's a lovely big list on the Final Fantasy Wiki wot used to have its own page but for some reason was shunted to a forum instead and took me ages to find. Now, that one's surely got some missing, and some of them there may not be holes but cracks a bit like a few that could be offered here.

I reiterate that rule of cool alone does not excuse something without a better reason to back it up, by the way, so rule of cool needs more fuel or else to me the excuse is fool...ish.

Aaanyway, seems one of the ones I've been waving around actually crops up in that article partially under FF8's unexplained events ("[Firearms] exist in this universe and prior to Dr. Odine's discoveries only a selected few were able to use magic. Taking this into account, the widespread use of melee weapons remains unexplained") , so might as well put up one on the same sort of theme that dials in on what to me is a questionable use of firearms*

Inconsistency: Irvine, despite being a Sniper or Marksman, uses a Shotgun as his main weapon, in spite of Shotguns being short ranged and imprecise weapons compared to even standard assault rifles.
Possible Explanation 1: Developer oversight.
Possible Explanation 2: Recognising that Monsters are tough and that Monsters are the primary enemy to be encountered, the short ranged power of a shotgun is taken into consideration by Irvine as he does not anticipate any battle at ranges beyond the efficient range of such a weapon.
Possible Inconsistency in Explanation 2: If Irvine is so highly trained as a SeeD he could theoretically carry a rifle and know the correct spots to shoot for a faster kill. It would not have been unreasonable to say that training as a marksman he would have also learned anatomical detail of more common monsters and been able to therefore put a smaller round in the right spots.

Shotguns are not quite as versatile as Rifles for all situations, and using a jack-of-all-trades weapon to cover more possibilities would make sense to a trained soldier. Additionally, if the shotgun's power was the reason he used it, he could easily carry a lightweight short-barrelled shotgun for "close encounters" in addition to a rifle. Even a Carbine would greatly enhance accuracy and range over a standard shotgun and thanks to the above excuse, in gameplay would be no weaker than his shotgun.

*Other non-FF related questionable uses include but are not limited: Cleaning out ears, propping up bookshelves, making go-faster holes in cars, brain surgery, greeting foreign dignitaries, greeting the head of state, greeting religious leaders, greeting celebrities, children's playtoys, Powerthirst flavouring.

Nice topic btw:

FF4:

Inconsistancies:The moon is a dead planet and cecil and fusoya and golbez would have died

Explanation:Maybe they are like superman? immune to ultra violet radiation and don't need to breathe?

FF2 nes:

Inconsistancies:When you defeat the emperor and afterwards you go after leon and the emperor returns from hell, the whole place is crumbling and you escape by teleportation and your ship is waiting for you at the main headquarters.
Does it work on remote controll or something? and if so,did someone else have it?

Inconsistancies:Wouldn't you be distrustfull if someone tries to conquer the world and known as the dark knight such as leon? They forgive him rather easily and trust him.

FF6

Inconsistancies:When you are in the world of ruin, how is sabim able to hold a building for so long? You would need super human strength for that.

Explanation:He was somewhat superhuman in strength.

FF7:

Inconsistancies:How is red able to breed with aeris?
Isn't it true that animals can only breed with animals of their own kind normally?

Explanation:None

FFIX: Beatrix goes on a racial genocide of Freya's people, pretty much wipes all of them out, and then literally everybody forgives her when she's says she should have been fighting for the Princess not the Queen. What the hell? She doesn't even apologise for any of it. She's barely even under orders, when the Queen is about to destroy Cleyra she complains that some of her soldiers are still in the city. Steiner wants to marry a mass murderer.

Possible explanation? Maybe the team is terrified of her and just because she isn't trying to kill them they decide to quit while they're ahead. Steiner is blinded by love. The few surviving Burmecians and Cleyrans, all 10 of them, are so mentally destroyed by the war that their minds just forget the events.

Does nothing to account for the fact that all the non-Lunerians don't immediately die when they get off the Whale.

A better explanation is that just because the game's world has an earth-like planet and a satellite like the Moon we know doesn't mean their atmospheres are completely different, or that human physiology itself isn't different.

Alright,i probably shouldn't mention it anyways since rpg fantasy worlds are not supposed to make sense.

In a fantasy world, all laws of the physical world and the nature are bent.

Answer : He didn't think that Celes would pull such a trick he misjudged his opponent leading him to a surprised failure.

Nibelheim

Answer : Nibelheim is a isolated area and all the people in the rebuild Nibelheim are actors played by the shrina to cover up the incident. The only closest towns to Nibelheim are Corel and Rocket Town and both of them are pretty isolated and quiet towns by themselves and from RT couldn't travel over to Nibelheim because of Mt Nibel being too dangerous to cross and there is a lake path blocking travelers from Corel getting to Nibelheim. I'd wouldn't be surprised if only the shrina knew that Nibelheim existed.

Evil Forest

Answer : Marcus managed to free Blank from the evil forest using the supersoft so he could of told Baku and Baku could of freed the Prima Vista from the evil forest and fixed up it's damages.

Vivi

Answer : He could of went to the village of Dali and used the smoke machine to create son clones. He may of wanted his race to live on and progress develop and evolve throughout history, like how Zidane wanted to give the genome race a chance.

PSLCOM officer

Answer : Lighting could of had a spare gunblade or it was a fake gunblade to trick the enemy into thinking that nothing was going to happen.

Don't know about the rest of the questions.

I couldn't agree any more! That's why I hate the FF titles directed by Tetsuya Nomura: because all his works focused on making things cool without rhyme or reason save for the fact that IT'S COOOOOOOL! He's the Japanese version of Michael Bay where there is fan service, outrageous visuals, and inconsistencies galore. And when you ask for why there are such inconsistencies, the "cool" excuse is the only one that comes up and people take it...ugh pinch.gif

Nomura hasn't directed a single Final Fantasy title in the main series. In fact, the only titles he has directed are Dirge of Cerberus, Versus XIII and TWEWY. (You can include Advent Children if you're talking about his full resume.)

Also, I can't believe I forgot this:

FFIX

Inconsistency: How did everyone know to assist Zidane and co. during the Battle for The Lifa Tree? Possible Explanation Mikoto told them, and they actually saw the Mist and the giant orb above the Lifa Tree.

FF4.

How. Did. Cid. Survive?

Why. Did. He. Jump. In. The. First. Place?

Possible explanation: He's mentally retarded AND made of steel.

FF10

How can Blitzball players' shots (is that the word?) actually go fast - or even not stop? I'm no physicist, but doesn't water kinda slow down moving stuff?

Explanation: They kick really, really well?

I would say that it is more of a gutsy move than a stupid move.

As for the fall itself,he should have died from it.This is though a videogame and videogames defy logic and the laws of gravity.FF7 advent children you see cloud strife and other guys flying in mid air and jumping 10 15 or 20 feet in the air and ontop of buildings.

Probably because the terrifyingly evil and powerful flying Fal'Cie was running around shooting down anything hovering around it. Don't forget that it vaporized a whole bunch of those Flying Bities without a second thought.

Okay, I know this post is weeks old, but I just wanted to point out that Phoenix downs do not revive the dead. They revive characters from K.O. status. I do not believe this is a genuine inconsistency.
