Name vs. Title

I just wanted to know how the title under your name at the left (ex. mine is still "Returner") gets changed. Â I have been here only a few days, but I am still searching for the magic number of posts that changes the given title.
At least, that is how I assume it works.  I could be wrong, but I have seen a large variety of different titles under people's names, and I was just wondering how and why it gets changed. Wow! Â Being the newbie that I am, I haven't even had the time to fully explore all this site has to offer.
