Since tomorrow is the season premier of Heroes, I think this is the perfect time to start a Heroes thread. I'm excited about the new season. They saved the cheerleader, they saved the world, some of them died

Am I the only one who's annoyed by Peter? I mean, to me a big appeal of the show (and with most superhero things) is that all the individual "heroes" can come together and cover each others' weaknesses. Peter's just turning into a jack-of-all-trades, master-of....all. It's almost getting to the point where the others aren't as important to the plot, except that they have to stay away from Sylar.
Anyways, I'm just glad that the majority of people who have died I really disliked. Possible spoilers: highlight to view I mean, Ted was just... stupid and way way way too hot-headed in a lot of delicate situations. Linderman had a sense of morality that I don't think many people could agree with... and he killed a veritable assload of people. Isaac struck me as way too whiny. Yes, I know it's how his character would act in the situations he's thrown in, I just find it annoying. The waitress didn't bother me, so her dying was a bit sad. Parkman might be dead? I haven't seen many previews, but if he actually doesn't survive the four bullets Sylar threw in him, I don't think I'd be too sad. Nathan's fate is also left somewhat ambiguous, but I do know Peter survived from a couple shots I've seen from the next season, which to me pretty much ruins the whole ending of season 1. The brothers sacrifice themselves to save New York City? Would have been cool. Nathan just flies Peter up, lets him go at a high altitude, and flies away safely, while Peter explodes then miraculously regenerates even though his particles should be strewn in a fifty mile radius? Not nearly as cool. My main two questions are: Who can't the little girl locate because he "looks back at her"? Foreshadowing for the next major villian? What's Grandma Petrelli's power? It's strongly hinted that she has one. Could she be an evil mastermind? And I've rambled enough. ![]() -------------------- With the lights out It's less dangerous |

Regarding the deaths:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view It seemed pretty unlikely to me that Peter would die, given that he exploded in the bad future timeline and survived then. The difference this time was that Nathan sacrificed himself (although it wouldn't surprise me if he survived somehow too.) I quite like Parkman, partly because he's something of a villain in the bad future. It'll be interesting to see if that also happens in the new timeline. What intrigues me still is... Possible spoilers: highlight to view What exactly caused the bad future not to happen? Future Hiro arranged to save the cheerleader, but that didn't seem to do it alone. Sylar survived being stabbed by Hiro in the good timeline too. All I can think of is that point where Hiro tells Nathan he's "already a bad person", which almost certainly wouldn't have happened without his trip to the future - that could've been a key point in making him rethink Linderman's plan. And what's the deal with Peter's magic dreaming? Could he have absorbed that from his mother perhaps? |

In response to your last question, Tiddles...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view I believe that it was the old man Peter was caring for that had the power to sense things. After all, he could see Peter when he had that dream/time traveled. Peter spent a lot of time by his side, and could have absorbed something from him that we never knew about. As far as deaths are concerned: Possible spoilers: highlight to view Not sure about the brothers, but they made it pretty clear that Peter couldn't die from exploding. Nathan probably flew away at the last moment as well. It's the noble thought of sacrifice that counts, maybe? As for Parkman... he's not dead. Rather, he'll still be around, being as I've seen him MOST in all of the promo's I've seen. heh. I'm also eager to see if they'll have Sylar mostly gone for this season so that they can throw in some new evil baddies. Sylar is evil/demented enough that he could cause a lot of unseen havoc in the background that could lead to some things in the 3rd season. That, and the actor is working on the new Star Trek film (he's young Spock)... if that's started filming. (Not sure when production starts) I can't wait for tonight! Good call making this thread! -------------------- STC, Current Challenge: [Chrono Trigger] (Progress: Ch.2 Start) |

Well last night's episode was interesting to say the least. I think we got more questions than answers.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view I am disappointed with the writers on how they made Peter lose his memories (and how he will probably get them back just before the end of the season) and have Hiro go back in time to find that 'Kensei' is english and a jerk, which will most likely end in hiro becoming the kensei in which the stories told of. Still I am happy that both brothers and parkman survived. It was a good episode and I'm looking forward to next week. -------------------- "You know that feeling you get when you're on a merry go 'round, and you want to jump off to make the spinning stop, but you know it'll suck when you land? Ok, I'm reviving this thread because there are only 3 episode of this season left, so lets discuss what went on. Unmarked spoilers btw.
It was cool to see i what happened in those lost three months. DL was really cool as a fireman, and I didn't like how he died ![]() P.s. I know this is an old topic, but I was just curious who, if anyone, is still watching Heroes. I was watching it Monday night. Durring the episode, there was a quick reference to Crono Trigger.
Does anyone still watch it? Anyone enjoying the new season? Anyone catch the nod at CT? After last season, I was really disappointed in Heroes, but the new season gives me a little hope for the future of the show. -------------------- "And that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped” -Sir Bedevere the Wise |

I've watched every season of Heroes since it started airing. It's not my favorite show but I do really enjoy it. Movies have been pulling off live action comic books for awhile now, but it's still pretty rare to see that work on TV series.
Unfortunately, both this show and my favorite other fantasy-type TV series, LOST, have taken major dips in the ratings recently. LOST used to post as high as 23 million viewers an episode. Those are American Idol numbers. Towards the last season their viewership dipped down below 10 million an episode for the first time. I think Heroes is hovering somewhere around 6 million viewers an episode, on average. I think there were a few things that hit the TV industry in general. The first was the WGA strike, which cut a lot of seasons very short. Heroes Season 2 was, I think, one of the biggest victims of this. I mean, holy unresolved storyline, Batman, WTF happened to all those new characters they introduced? The second thing to screw things up was the economy collapsing. Studios just don't have the money to spend on production like they used to, and people are not watching as much TV. I think there's definitely been a noticeable dip in the quality of these two shows. I have faith that LOST will go out on a bang next season, though. I don't really know where Heroes is heading. The first season had the best plot, more recently I find myself saying an awful lot "wow, X-men did that." I'm a few episodes behind, but from what I've seen of Season 4 I still don't think Heroes is performing at par. |

Yes, I did catch the CT reference, it was awesome. Yeah I still watch it, but Heroes has definitely went down hill. It's as if the writers can't make up their minds on what story to go with. I still enjoy watching it, as it's an still an alright show, but I can't help thinking it could be soo much better.

I used to be really crazy about Heroes, but each season my enthusiasm for it has decidedly dropped. I now just catch the episodes online later. In a way, I'm still interested in the resolution of the storyline and it hasn't totally alienated me, but I'm not such a big fan of it any longer. The storytelling has gotten a little more sloppy and many things are still unresolved and swept under the carpet (Hey Caitlin, how's being stranded in an alternate dimention with plague everywhere by your boyfriend working out for you?).

With Heroes on hiatus until the new year, I'm reevaluating the season having watched all the episodes thus far.
I think this season has taken a turn for the better. I like the carnis and Heroes has needed a viable villain besides Sylar for some time now, something that was acknowledged but not delivered in the poorly named "Villains" story arc. I think they have that character now in Samuel, although he reminds me of Magneto and apparently I'm not the only one. Furthermore, it appears that Heroes has stretched beyond ripping off X-men to include X-Factor, as they now have a character who can create clones of himself ala Multiple Man. Despite that, this actually seems like the most promising season since the first. I also find the story of Nathan's mind trapped in Sylar's body to raise some very interesting ethical questions, such as whether his "soul" survives or this is some trick. Seen it done before in sci-fi (ExoSquad did it) but it's nonetheless a great story point, especially given the past attempts to tie Sylar to the Petrelli family. We'll see how the next half of the season turns out. |
