Many game reviewers use a rating system of stars or another symbol to rate games but thought maybe if you all had a choice to rate the games out of the A B C D F system from middle school what would you rate the Final Fantasy games ?
What Final Fantasy game would get the top of the class or rather top of the series A+ and what Final Fantasy would get the big fat F for fail... ?

Also to make the topic thread a little thicker in depth maybe explain the reason why you gave the Final Fantasy game that certain score. smile.gif

Also if you haven't completed the game yet then you don't need to give the game a score unless you want to judge what you have seen of the game so far..

Final Fantasy IV - magical musical soundtrack wonderful bunch of characters and magical in depth storyline for it's age however the character's disappearing and coming back is borderline annoying and it let's their sacrifices be in vain. B +

Final Fantasy V - Downdrop in storyline compared to IV and a downdrop in character development. Though this game holds a amazing battle system great sense of humor / comedic relief and great music. C+

Final Fantasy VI - This game holds a very detailed and complexed storyline and it holds background stories and it's heavy on character development and storyline. Music is a huge improvement from IV and the fighting system is a improvement from the basic system from IV, however the dungeons can be downright frustrating and challenging. A-

Final Fantasy VII - It holds a fail in translation and grammar which is a huge mark down, the storyline is messed up and unbalanced however it's still strong enough to make you keep playing. Characters are not as good as VI IV and even V but there is a few that are very likable. Amazing graphics that have sadly aged in time. B-

Final Fantasy VIII- Final Fantasy VIII holds heaps of main character improvement from Cloud showing his inner thoughts and feelings towards the player the graphics and the storyline try and show a more realistic force to the fantasy. The battle system is the game's major bomb- punishing you for leveling up and using magic, letting the game feel more like a movie. However the game does hold emotional depth and character improvement from VII- the storyline grows each CD but it sadly drops at the end of the 3rd with the confusing time traveling. If this game didn't punish you for leveling up, would easily give this game a A- C +

Final Fantasy IX - A unique game, that steps away from the themes of Final Fantasy VIII and VII. The character development would of been just as good as IV's if it wasn't for Eiko and Amarant, one is plain and stereotypical and the other makes you want to tear things. The music improves from VII and VIII. The storyline is the opposite of VIII's but believe it's just as good, however IX has a excellent working battle system and amazing villains which VIII lacks terribly. A-

Final Fantasy X - The music is a poor backdrop from classical IX and sci-fi VIII. Not to mention the characters are terrible compared to other Final Fantasy installments. The Villain is deeper and is more detailed than the main character however he doesn't hold a finger compared to Kuja but alas he's better than Edea/ Ultimeca. The storyline is what keeps the game strong and the amazing battle system, including the summoning. Though the game doesn't get deep until near the end and then it flops again. Would recommend X if you like to role-play fight and that's it. X is destoryed by cheesy annoying characters and even cheesy moments in storyline and the music is a huge drop from IX, VIII, VII and VI. D-

Final Fantasy XII - This is hard to judge since isn't too keen on the game but the music is more disappointing than X and the battle system is terrible. However the game holds a more mature and more balanced storyline compared to X and the voice acting in this game is pure joy on heaven. XII is mature and it's different from the other Final Fantasies, however loosing the original theme is a bad idea. If it's not broke, don't fix it SE !
D +

Final Fantasy XIII - Haven't played much of it- but judging at the moment the music hasn't been this good since IX- it's not golden years good, but it's a improvement from XII and X. The characters are something that you either like or hate but I blame the English voice overs on most faults- espically Vanille.
The storyline seems at the moment more confusing than VII's- but it's improvement from X and XII. And the Battle system is just as good as X's. XIII so far is a improvement. At the moment- C + ( * at the moment *)

So what's your scores. ??

Final Fantasy I No story to speak of and frustrating difficulty but it's the original so I have to give it a C

Final Fantasy III Not bad but still lacking in story. Very much a game rather than a story and the Job System is goodC

Final Fantasy V If it wasn't for the fact that Exdeath is in fact a tree and that the Job System is once again awesome this game would get an F- but it gets a D

Final Fantasy VI One kickass game and the only one wherein I was able to get my characters to Level 99 A

Final Fantasy VII The only FF that made me cry*sniff*A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Final Fantasy XII If Vaan had just gone and died in a ditch like he was supposed to then this game would've scored high for the sidequesting, political storyline and NO DAMN RANDOM BATTLES! but instead I must give it a B+

Final Fantasy Tactics Despite not being in the main series this happens to be my second favourite FF of all time with VII being the best and XII being third. A deep political story with betrayals kidnappings and religious turmoil(and demons, don't forget demons) FFIV done rightA+

Heh heh, glad you gave a good score to IX, I've always been a big IX apologist.

Uhh, let's see...

FFI: C. Influential but frankly unplayable at this point.
FFII: D. My least favourite in the series.
FFIII. B-. Clunky and archaic, but it introduced a lot of what makes the series great.
FFIV. A. Fantastic. The first 'modern' RPG.
FFV. B+. Perfected the 16-bit engine, everyone loves the job system.
FFVI: A+. My #1 alltime game. Beaten it around 50 times, could do it another 50.
FFVII: B+. Localization is awful, but cyberpunk story is really interesting.
FFVIII: C+. Broke tons of new ground, even if a lot of it isn't that good. If the story was cleaned up it would've been great.
FFIX: B+. There are sure pacing problems, but it was the last time Square did a 'throwback' game that was really enjoyable.
FFX: C. Eh...better than I once thought, but still a 'guilty pleasure' through and through.
FFXI: N/A. Learning curve was too steep for me, played about 15 minutes.
FFXII: D. Engine is a lot of fun, story and characters are beyond contrived. Redeems itself when you skip through every cutscene.
FFXIII: N/A. Haven't played.
Tactics: A+. My #2 alltime game. Best story in the medium. Flat-out amazing.

FF1: B-. I enjoyed the game, but it was quite clunky. That can be excused, though. smile.gif
FF2: Haven't played.
FF3: B+. I've only played the DS remake, but I really enjoyed the system.
FF4: A. Solid storyline and a great foray into the SNES.
FF5: B. Weak characters and storyline, but a very strong battle and job system.
FF6: A+. Absolutely solid and wonderful.
FF7: A. Extremely fun game, but began the Adventures Of Emo Main Characters that became a poor trend. Story was very good, but clunky with room for interpretation.
FF8: C. I found the game very fun to play, but the junction system limited your battle opportunities rather than opening it up. Story was weak and the characters sucked.
FF9: A. A nice bounceback after FF8, 9 had some of my favorite characters in the series and some of the best music out there.
FF10: A. Very linear, but had some of the best character development in the entire series. Amazing story and music.
FF11: Haven't played.
FF12: F. As in F this game, and not in the TWEWY way.
FF13: B. I'm about 80% of the way through the game, and I've really enjoyed it, but it's unbelievably limited and linear, and though the gameplay rules, there isn't enough of it for my taste.
Tactics: A+. Can't top this, IMO. Best story and characters of Final Fantasy, and took the FF5 job system and mastered it. Flawless in the categories that I care about.

FFI = Haven't played.
FFII = Haven't played.
FFIII = Haven't played.
FFIV = B+ / The story was pretty good and the characters were quite well done. Nothing overly spectacular in my book, but a solid game that I certainly enjoyed.
FFV = D / I honestly could not stand this game. I really tried to, but I just couldn't tolerate the lack of story or character development. The battle system, while interesting, wasn't enough to save it.
FFVI = A / A really nice game. In my eyes, FFVI is an upgrade in every category of FFIV without expanding too much beyond that basic style. It had a good amount of linear-ness and openess along with a great cast of characters and a fantastic story.
FFVII = A / A solid job with the characters and a very good story with just the amount of unanswered questions to get the imagination going. There are a lot of great moments in this game.
FFVIII = A / I've always really enjoyed FFVIII. I think that the story is excellent with a few small exceptions that I end up just ignoring (la-la-la!). The concept of the game and the world are intriguing as well. Has some of my favorite moments in an RPG as well.
FFIX = A- / The characters and story in this game were well done as well. I thought about giving it an outright A, but it doesn't quite reach that level of shine in my opinion.
FFX = A+ / My absolute favorite. Briliant characters with a fantastic story. It was linear but offered enough opportunities for additional quests and exploration so that I never felt trapped in a jet stream. Beautiful music as well, definitely Uematsu's best effort. The pinnacle of the series in my mind, and the most memorable videogame I've ever played.
FFXI = Haven't played.
FFXII = B- / Didn't care much for the characters, and the story didn't interest me all that much either. The world was interesting though, and I enjoyed the tweaked battle system.
FFXIII = B / The more I think about this one, the more I appreciate all the character development. I wasn't as interested in the main story, but the characters and their emotional journey throught the game was very well done. The battle isn't my favorite, but it was quite refreshing.

For the record, nothing gets an A+ here for a reason. A+ is perfect. You cannot get perfect in this series, something will let you down.

FF1 - C. Not the strongest game in terms of story these days, but enjoyable enough.
FF2 - C-. The first case it seems where they focus on story perhaps to the detriment of gameplay. Just not that enjoyable IMO but gets points for trying with a bigger story.
FF3 (Original) - Unplayed, no rating
FF3 (DS Remake) - B. Pretty solid game IMO, fun enough.
FF4 (Original) - B+. Seems to be the first time they told a good story and a good game at the same time.
FF4 (DS) - B. Decent remake, but dodgy voices IMO.
FF4 The After Years - Unplayed, no rating.
FF5 - C. Suffers from some of 1's issues, but not a dreadful game. Just one of the more mediocre ones.
FF6 - A. Possibly still the best balance of good game and story yet. Not as dated as...
FF7 - A-. A good game let down a little by poor ageing and to an extent a lacklustre series of spin-offs and follow-ons.
FF7 Spin-Offs and Sequels - Unplayed/Unwatched entirely. Rated C- on principle due to majority of content I have viewed/played being rather poor.
FF8 - D-. One of the worst game of the main series still. Tried something new and failed in gameplay, some of the most boring characters, maddest plot, and the only good thing was the setting if used as a base.
FF9 - A-. Now that's what I'm talking about, Mister Wayne.
FF10 - C. Okay game, just a little too railroady, and bad voice acting lets down the side.
FF10-2 - D-. A terrible game that made annoying characters worse, on par with FF8 for flaws.
FF11 - Not Played. MMORPG, can jog on.
FF12 - B-. Not the worst, not the best. Maybe tried too hard to change, while keeping some of the wrong conventions and clichés around.
FF12 - F. The worst game in the series so far. Everything wrong with the series at once and nothing right with it. The same flaws as 10 and 12, only ramped up to 11. Changing the wrong things and keeping the wrong things.
