Goddamit!!!

The main piece from when you leave the castle in ff4 in the ff3 ds is really moving.

Even the funky boss battle music is good.

They got some very nice pieces

Another favorite of mine is the chocobo piece in ff9

Anybody here like it too?

I didn't like ff XII crystal theme song.

I liked ffIV crystal theme song wich seemed more like a orchestra.

FF7:one winged angel was very good and impressing.
Map music didn't imake much of a impression.
The music that is used for hojo make a impression on me for some reason.
The shinra murder music was eerie and creeped me out.
The music for shinra corporation had a very nice beat and certainly got you going.
Never payed much attention to the victory theme

FF6:
Forest music was beutifull and very captivating
Kefka's boss theme was awesom
Regular boss fight music was great and very nice to listen to
Doma castle themesong was also great
Crystal song was like FFIV so it was great
Edgar's castle song was also really good
I used to like the map music but i can't get into it now for some reason.
Music for regular battles and victory is great.

FFIV:

Dwarf castle is great,l always loved the dwarf castle song.
Map song is good but not my favorite.
Battle theme for boss i loved it to death
Song that you get after you leave the castle and the same song you hear when zeromus is immune to everything is also really great.
Underworld theme song is also great and kicks the overworlds music
Cave music is great
Lunar song is great,i liked the special effects
Lunar whale tune is great(one of the reasons i like lunar whale so much) and apart from that, the kickass animation for its day going to the moon
Tower song that goes for:tower of babel and many other places is also great,

FF9:

I loved the chocobo's spanish tune,i thought it was plain awesom
Main towns or cities:I liked the tune very much for when you were in alexandria
Kuja's theme song was also great
I liked kujas final boss theme song too.
The overworld song was also good

I can't remember all the themesongs,i need to replay it.

Thing is,i know FFIV by heart,i beat the games many many times,i only beat ff9 once.

FF8:

This is the one i cannot name 1 song of yet

You know another great song?

The ff9 farm village music,ff9 has some very nice calm soothing music that washes over you.

FFIII ds has that calm music that you find in ff9,the nes version is ok but the ds version flows better because they had better sound equipment.

I like that, chrono trigger also has very good music

I really liked the bitter sweet piece that comes at the very end, anybody know the name of that song?

FFIX is Square at its best. I think it beats CT by a margin. To think that most of these songs only come in at one time in the entire game just shows how strong this soundtrack really is.

Edit
FFVIII has some great tracks too. One of the most unappreciated songs in Square's catalogue is The Stage is Set.

Still talking about FF9 (I'm not adding those sweetdude referred, but they're personal favorites too):

Loss of Me and Sword of Doubt
Jesters of the something-something (Moon?)
Qu's Marsh
Vamo Alla Flamenco

All great tracks. And Final Battle: you can hear the tormented souls scream! Now, that's evil.

More:

Dancing Mad (FF6): I actually like the first part better.
That song in the end (FF6): It's like, ALL the game's songs in one!
Aria de Mezzo something-something (FF6): It still gives me the chills.
To Zanarkand (FF10): See Aria de Mezzo
That music in Mt. Gagazet (FF10): Beautiful indeed.
Otherworld (FF10): Although I dislike the song itself, it was greatly placed in the game.

All great songs. Really.

Oh, yeah, and Gogo's theme.

This one is the best one of ff9

I love this one,its so cool

I mean how many games actually have a spanish like tune?

Chocobo music FTW!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bxp7qJieKw&feature=related

pretty cool toon

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbYRfe1DbTw&feature=related (chrono trigger)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a33yZHmZAIQ&feature=related another chrono trigger tune that's nice

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9fwkONNsS4&feature=related sealed gate tune that you encounter in the world of ruins, very sad tune.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SYC58gO1cU&feature=related chrono triggers final game tune wich is bittersweet,i felt so sad after hearing it,it reminds me of saying:Sorry folks but the game is over and there is nothing else to do,but oh everybody lives happily ever after.

In no particular order, 10 20 of my favourite Square musics.

You Are Not Alone (FFIX)
On That Day, 5 Years Ago... (FFVII)
To Far Away Times (CT)
Coin Song (FFVI)
The Man With The Machine Gun (FFVIII)
Someday The Dream Will End (FFX)
Theme Of Love (FFIVDS)
Memory Of The Wind (FFIII)
Sword Sparks (The Last Remnant)
Water (FFVII:AC)
Hunter's Chance (FFIX)
Run! (FFIX)
Premonition (FFVIII)
Silence Before The Storm (FFX)
Who Are You? (FFVII)
Battle With Magus (CT)
Sunken Shrine (FFI)
The Rebel Army (FFII)
Overworld (FFII)
Battle On The Big Bridge (FFV)

And this is technically in a Square Enix game, so i'm putting it.

Twister

Verdict: Squaresoft had the best video game music. The entire soundtracks of VII-X were amazing. As for best, I think IX just gets the edge over X.

FF4 had some very good music. The Boss Battle theme, for example. And the Zeromus theme was awesome as well.

FF5, unfortunately didn't have very good music. Exceptions are the Battle on the Bridge (Gilgamesh's theme) and Bartz's home town music. But other than that, the music is meh.

FF7 had very good music:

The Battle Theme was very good.
Shinra's reactors theme was also very memorable
and the boss music theme is friggin awesome.
the World Map Music (on disc 1 and early disc 2) is very good.
City of the Ancients theme is also good.

And of course, Cid's theme is the best.

FF8... The best music is:

THe Stage is Set.
When Gabaldia raids on Balamb Garden.
The Extreme... played on the final fight with Ultimecia.
Esthar's theme is also good, actually.
And the boss fight theme is also very good.

Finally, Laguna's fights theme is also awesome.

I thought it would be that. She's very good isn't she? The beginning is the best bit I think, even though it comes into all her music.

FBM, now that you've reminded me of FFX, my two favourites are People of the North Pole with its killer bass, and Wandering Flame for the smoothness of it all. Oh, and that's a really good list you've put together there, I'm working my way down it.

I have to make an addendum to my list. I tried to include all of the games, but I just love Final Fantasy IX so much.

Brilliance. Right here.

When the bit from Mistaken Love starts playing, especially conjoined with the scene in game, oh, man. And then the trumpets. So damn good.

I love Aerith's theme, especially when it plays against JENOVE after Aerith's death. I think that was one of the best moments for Final Fantasy Music.

I'm kind of surprised nobody's mentioned Secret of Mana yet. It's got a beautiful soundtrack. I agree with many of the already-mentioned tracks, as well.

Some favorites, in no particular order-
Secret of Mana
Fear of the Heavens - title screen song
A Wish - the snow forest song
Holy Night - Pureland song
Repeating Eternity - song when you meet an Elemental
Kind Memories

FFIV, VI, and VII have soundtracks that I like the majority of. Chrono Trigger is the same.

Wasn't there a topic like this one before? Wait, that was favorite soundtrack and I kinda put my favorite tracks in there, so forgive the copy+paste:

Quote (Me)
My favorite soundtrack would be VI, that's for sure. Then IX, and then.. hum-uh IV, no wait II.. no, III! V?

As for favorite tracks:
1.Searching for Friends (VI) – Yeah, I'm kind of obsessed with that one, dunno why, it wasn't even my favorite in VI the first time I played.
2.Castle Pandemonium (II) – IMHO, is the best music for a final level in a FF.
3.My Home Sweet Home (V) – Nostalgia, it delivers.
4.The Place I'll Return to Someday (IX) – Beautiful, just beautiful.
5.Terra's theme (VI) – My original VI favorite, but I kind of ruined it by hearing it hundreds of times.
6.Aria di Mezzo Carattere (VI)– Outstanding.
7.Coin Song (VI) – I turn sentimental whenever I hear it.
8.Eternal Harvest (IX) – Now, this puts me in happy mood.
9.Forbidden Land Eureka (III) – That part is what I like most about III.
10.Rebel Army Theme (II) – Phew, this last spot was hard to decide.

And now for something (not)completely different, top 5 Square tracks that aren't from main FF titles:

1.Bonds of Sea and Fire (Xenogears)
2.Beware the Forest's Mushrooms (Super Mario RPG)
3.Departure (Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles)
4.Meridian Child (Seiken Densetsu 3)
5.Wind Scene (Chrono Trigger)

No love for the Chrono Cross soundtrack? That was the best of Square music-wise, in my opinion. The music is very moving, very atmospheric, and I love the differences in the music between the two worlds.

Scars of Time The opening theme music, it's reworked into a number of other songs in the game.

Arni Village ~Home World~ This the main character's hometown theme.

Arni Village ~Another World~ And the same town in Another World, where the main character died as a child.

Termina ~Another World~ The city of Termina in Another World where General Viper and the Acacia Dragoons still rule.

Termina ~Home World~ And Termina of Home World, where Viper and the Dragoons had disappeared and the Porre military is in charge.

On the Beach of Dreams

Dead Sea/Tower of Destruction This music really set the atmosphere for the Dead Sea/Sea of Eden portion of the game, one of the weirdest areas in any RPG.

The Girl Who Stole the Stars This was such a sad scene, and the music set the mood so perfectly.

The Dream That Time Dreams This song put together a few songs from the game.

Radical Dreamer ~Unstolen Jewel~ And the closing theme.
