Which event 'activates' the floating continent?

This is mostly for those who know the internal workings of the game, which are few, but I'm curious which 'event' activates the floating continent. I've been playing with the early Airship bug, and I've skipped grabbing Edgar, Sabin, Setzer, Celes, Gau, and Cyan. (which lead to an amazing scene where Terra procreates with her mom, but that's for a different topic altogether).

I can't seem to activate the Floating Continent, however. After General Leo dies, I get out into the open and... nothing. Trigger the Early Airship glitch again, and still nothing. Do I need to enter the airship immediately after the event to trigger the floating continent or is there some earlier event (i.e grabbing Setzer) that eventually 'activates' the floating continent.

I'm probably grabbing at straws here :\ Only thing I can think of, really, is trying to activate the glitch from inside the burning house...? Thamasa has no other save point inside of it than that... bummer that I couldn't get up to Kefka with a party of moogles.

k... so I googled the airship glitch and no luck. What is this airship glitch you speak of?

If it gives you the first airship, I'd love to be able to try and have it in the WoR tongue.gif

wonder if all my character would be in both?

Haven't tested it in WoR yet, but the glitch works like this, and is basically a two parter:

Step 1: Play the game and only save where you'd want to 'get' the airship. Continue on until the floating continent without making any saves (easy with an emulator).

Step 2: While on the floating continent, return to your airship, fly around for a second, then go BACK to the floating continent, and then lose a battle.

Step 3: This auto-loads your last save (with the levels of your previous characters) ... when the game loads, if you're on the overworld you're automatically in an airship. If you were in a dungeon, when you reach the overworld you're automatically put in the airship.

Step 4: Enjoy.

Now that that's explained, if you use this in the beginning when you only have Locke and Terra, you can literally fly straight to Zozo and skip everything inbetween. Edgar, Sabin, Gau, Cyan and Celes all become moogles as placeholders. Using the trick AGAIN at that point, you can get to Vector and activate the magitek factory event, and Setzer is also replaced with a moogle. From there, continue on normally until Thamasa, where I'm trying to skip Strago and Relm but it's not quite working...

This restart bug is also having strange effects on my stats. Using the bug twice seems to set your characters' HP/MP at 9999/999.

Finally, to describe what the airship is like: It's a fully functional blackjack. During certain points (such as when it's 'crashed') you can still fly/land it, but if you go into the airship, you can't lift back off unless you exit through the airlock (as if it were crashed).

It disappears once you land, so you have to re-activate the glitch if you want to use it more than once.

It leads to a lot of interesting events, including Terra's sprite replacing Maduin's during that flashback. Yes, she 'dances' around with her mother.

wowza... mother daughter dance/procreation, that's cute.

That's crazy though, do the placeholder moogles have the names of your characters, or are they just like the moogles you get who help lock out to save terra?

You know... years ago when I played ff6 over... and over... and over again, I thought I knew everything there was too know about ff6. I had magazines on it, art, and had the game practically memorized.

I'm quickly finding that... I know crap about this game tongue.gif.

I'm just trying to figure out how that would work in the WoR, I guess you just have to manage to get that far if it would let you set off the events for the floating continent.

I really think you could only recreate the glitch in WoR with an emulator. To get WoR, save, open a save state in the floating continent, pull off the glitch. Who knows, you might even get the Blackjack, too!

The 'placeholders' are literally the moogles. You can't change or touch their equipment and they can't equip espers, use magic, and they have crap stats. In combat they look like moogles, and during cutscenes they're usually moogles unless the game force-loaded or reset the sprites. A good example is during the opera scene, Celes is still a Celes sprite - albeit that entire scene has some really strange effects when you use the glitch.

Also when your characters are 'outside' your party, they'll usually appear normally. I.e on the airship (when they're present, sometimes they disappear from there), or when your party visits you in Thamasa.

It's an awfully strange bug.

I wonder though, would you be able to go back and get celes for instance, after having gotten all the way to just before the floating continent? Hmm... I guess probably not since you can't really get back into the town, and I'd imagine it's impossible to get setzer at this point too, gau I'm sure you could go back and get, sabin I would doubt it, unless you could get edger and terra and trigger the event with sabin.

All the old events are left untriggered, so yes, you can enter Figaro castle and collect Edgar for real, for example.

It leads to some odd results, such as Shadow talking to himself or Terra staring at her Esper form.

Well I was doing some thinking about this, and maybe the bug leaves the game assuming that you have triggered the floating continent.

I don't really know too much about code, or the game internal mechanics, but I'm thinking if you have the airship, and the bug is triggered at the floating continent, maybe whatever the connection is between that event and your last save, it's assuming you have already triggered the event.

I'm probably grasping at straws too, but the game is designed to maintain your stats on your last save when you die, maybe it keeps other information too, or this bug triggers other information too be maintained...

I dunno... just a thought. How is it coming along either way?

I think it's the other way around, the game doesn't know to activate the floating continent. I forget what happens, but either the airship takes off immedietly when you leave Thamasa or you just get on the airship. Either way I need to activate the bug to make the airship even appear, so the game is completely confused as some key trigger event is missing.

Likely I might need to activate Setzer to make the airship permanent, and even then, since it's out of order, it might not work at all.;

As for the stats being maintained thing, I'm not familiar with what was intended and what was not intended. You could well be right about that.

I can't seem to activate the floating continent at all, though, nor can I find a point to skip Thamasa altogether. I think that's as far as the bug can physically take me, which means it's ready to go into the bug/glitch video.

Have you gone through the cave near Thamasa where you meet Yuri and fight Ultros? I seem to remember that once you go through that cave, you're teleported back to Thamasa for the General Leo / Kefka events, and you immediately are sent to the airship where Strago senses the statues being activated and the floating continent being torn from the earth.

Either that, or the airship is parked right outside Thamasa and when you enter it, the event is triggered. Either way I expect you have to go through the events at Thamasa for this scene to be available.

This is a really cool topic. I kinda want to try this glitch out (I tried the Celes/Kutan one, which was also really hilarious).

This glitch is basically a hardcore version of the Celes/Kutan one, but a lot more unstable.

But yes, I did the cave with Yuri. No go. The game doesn't seem to register that I have the airship to activate the floating continent. If I have to do the Setzer event to make the airship 'permanent' I don't think I'd want to bother doing the rest of it since I already 'maxed out' the skippable number of characters.

Besides, WoR wouldn't add anything interesting besides the cutscenes being replaced with moogles. And frankly the novelty of that has worn off considerably. Additionally most of those cutscenes have forced sprites. The only one that might be funny is if Gerad is the same palette swap but of a moogle instead of Edgar, which I sincerely doubt.

Solitary Island scene might be hilarious if I kill Cid, though...

On second thought, I'll try it out.

Edit: Nevermind, you'd have to do everything in the right sequence to activate everything. The game is effectively stuck prior to the floating continent by skipping the opera house and going straight to Vector/Magitek Factory.
