Had a wee check through the pages and was quite surprised i didnt find any posts that talked specifically about the symbolism and re-occuring themes in final fantasy 7.
ill start with just a few- lets see how many we can get.

The Number Seven- FF 7, Tifa's Bar (also in sector 7), 7777 (health during battles) Seven years since Cloud left Nibelheim to join SOLDIER (might have made that one up lol)

Various religious themes- Jenova (Jehovah) Sephiroth and Tifa (from the ‘Tree of Life’ in Kaballah Tifaret/Tiferet/etc)

Of course many enemies/bosses etc come from various mythologies. Anyone else think of any?

I always thought of Avalanche as a good name for an eco-warrior group. It's a good image. Nature at one of its most powerful states. Tidal Wave, Earthquake or Volcano aren't nearly as good. Plus it has connotations of gathering strength. Maybe a bit obvious a name but why not.

I always felt like there was some symbolism like:religious and even cultural references.

To me,the little symbols that almost give reference to the cia american president and even nasa.

I think that's very true. Sakaguchi's mother died before the beginning of production, so I think that had a clear effect.

Thanks for telling me that, that makes a lot of sense and certainly a death of a loved one can effect their work like:mozart made a sad piece of music when his father died and the song became very depressing or:rem singer michael stipe was good friends with nirvana singer kurt cobain and the death of his dear friend made him depressed and put him in a slump.

I'm sorry i went off topic but it was just an example.

Anyways:I haven't really read a lot about ff7 because i tend to avoid it,on the other hand,i think that they are important to the game too.
