I was just wondering... what is your favorite airship in all Final Fantasies? I mean, there are hundreds, no, MILLIONS of great choices. Or about two dozens, I don't know.

To name a few: Enterprise, Nautilus, Invincible (3), Lunar Whale, Falcon, Blackjack, Highwind, Ragnarok, Invincible (9), the three Hilda Gardes, the one from X (can't remember its name), and I guess latter FF's have them too. I don't know, I never played them.

My pick would be the Invincible, from IX. Sure, Ragnarok is a dragon, and the Natilus is both fast AND a submarine. But the Invincible has an EYE. An EYE that controls Eidolons. An eye that subdued powers like Bahamut and Alexander... now, that's an airship you can rely on!

...but it's slow.

I don't see how this can even be a question. There can be only one, and that one is the Lunar Whale. It flies to the moon. It has beds and a fat chocobo. And it's a friggin' whale.

I think I have to agree with Rangers on this one.

Second would be the Enterprise. Only because it makes me think of Star Trek...

Ragnarok. hands down. its a freaking dragon space ship. the only way it could be cooler is if it traveled through time and had "lightning" somewhere in its name.

My favorite airship is the one from Final Fantasy 5, despite me hating that game. I mean, who could not like a vehicle that can morph into a boat, a submarine, AND a flying ship all in one? Badass.

The airship from FF2. It is used to ram through more walls than the Hulk himself one of those being that of the DREADNOUGHT.
AND you use it to rescue the princess.

I'm going with the Enterprise, it's being the first one I saw (and, to a lesser extent, the synergy with Star Trek).

I said it once and I'll say it again, FFVI Falcon. Because I just LOVE “Searching for Friends”. Also the way it rises from the sea after been buried in a tomb was a really powerful moment for me. In other occasions getting an airship meant you were free to get to a new place, with the Falcon it felt different, the World of Ruin suddenly became brighter.

I really like the highwind. It was hightech but also had bit of steampunk to it aswell. And I guess I just like the way it's built, with the three propellers in the back aswell as the bridge with it's wide windows. Definatly the Highwind, but I guess any airship is cool is it's own way ;P

Just wanted to say that about a week ago I started to try to make this topic as a vote and gave up because I couldn't remember all the airship names off the top of my head tongue.gif

Ragnarok is awesome! The Lunar Whale is pretty cool too though... And I also like the searching for friends music. But I also like the traveling music from the end of FFIX. And Highwind was cool in its old school way.

How about the sleeper pick: Celsius!! From FFX-2! Yes, the game was painful. Yes, Wakka and Lulu should definitely not have made a baby. And yes, Yuna completely changed personalities (and got a short short skirt ... ). But yes, the Celsius rocked!

gotta be the Falcon. it has a great story behind it AND it has a great music track attached. the Celsius would be a close second though....its just so detailed, visually beautiful.

I have a question that seems pertinent to the topic. I like the older, blimp-style airships rather than the new spaceship, fighter jet-looking ones. What about you guys?

The INVINCIBLE! (FFIII)

I didn't realise that the name 'Invincible' comes from FFIII. That's interesting. I can't think of much in FFIX that isn't recycled.

When I saw the title I thought of the scene in FFIX where Garland draws power from the centre of the Invincible to destroy Alexander with his heavy church doom music (good genre that one) playing in the background. Invincible from FFIX is surely the best, just like TK says.

As for your question BlitzSage, I suppose the style of airship just goes with the game itself. The Highwind would be silly if it was a blimp. Then with FFIX we've got the alien-looking Invincible and the traditional Hilde Garde ships, both styles suit the origins. Basically, as long as it's consistent with the game, I don't really have a preference for either style.

Yeah, but do you prefer the classic or futuristic style? Let's say if you're in a generic FF title, and you could choose either style, which would it be?

In general, I prefer the blimp-type airships. While the space-ship ones look cool, they seem more science fiction than fantasy, and the game is called Final FANTASY.

On that note, I'm looking forward to Nostalgia, the game that will revolve around all types of airships.

I'm quite fond of the contemporary styles of the Highwind and Ragnarok, but if I had to pick a vessel of my own to have, it'd be the Hilde Garde III (FF9) hands-down. It's like an old-timey contraption retrofitted with modern propellers and such -- maybe even a little steampunky. Of course, flying around in that thing wouldn't be half as cool if it didn't have a spindly theme playin' all the while. heart.gif

I've got to go with the Ragnarok as my favourite, both for being my first airship and a dragon.

The Falcon and the Blackjack are tied. ( it was a TOUGH CHOICE.)
I mean, the Falcon is the FASTEST SHIP IN THE WORLD (or so Setzer says)
and the Blackjack has a totally convenient refreshments guy. And both of them have the same gambling theme.

I always liked the Blackjack, it's got the shop and the free HP/MP restore.

The Falcon has a great story to it though, in the second half of the game...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
that part of the game starts out pretty bleak. How hopeful do you become when you see the ship flying out of the water with Searching For Friends playing?
Definitely a memorable moment to me.

The Lunar Whale deserves mentioning just because it's the only airship that can fly to the Moon.

I liked the Bridge/Cockpit area of the Highwind, how the clouds look through the windows.
