I did a topic search with no results. I'm kinda shocked that noone has started a topic about this game yet.
Is anyone as excited for this game as I am? Has anyone even heard of it? It basically came out of left field at E3 this year, and won 10 "Best of E3" awards. Brief description. Scribblenauts is a puzzle game for the DS. There are 220 puzzles to solve. Half the puzzles are action puzzles, and half are thinker puzzles. Your only goal on every level is to aquire the "Starite" on each level. When you begin a puzzle, a camera will pan around the level, showing you what is going on around you, followed by a short sentance with a hint on what you need to do to get the Starite. The reason it is going to be so amazing, is the game is only going to be limited by your imagination. Your hero has a magic pad in which what ever he writes will appear in the game. There are a few rules to what you can write. No proper nouns (well... MOST proper nouns won't work. There are some programed into the game, like Abraham Lincon, and Einstien are the two I've seen work in videos), no drugs/alcohol/nudity/profanity, and it has to be a noun you type in. There are 10,000+ objects programed into the game though, all with their own animations and AI (how they'll interact with other objects). If you're about to be destroyed by a T-rex? Nuke and drop it on his head, destroying everything, or type in Teleporter and teleport away. Type in Cow, and distract the T-rex with a feast. Type in Cthulhu and let them fight it out. The way to solve any puzzle in the game is only limited by your imagination. Replay value is also increased with awards (like achievments). Each puzzle can be replayed 3 times, and each replay you can't repeat any objects you used on previous playthroughs. I'm very excited for it. ![]() This post has been edited by Fadien on 13th September 2009 12:10 -------------------- "And that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped” -Sir Bedevere the Wise |

The concept is amazing and totally worth the excitement.
The practice, obviously, remains to be seen. I was also totally blown away when I first saw the Scribblenauts demo. But, for some reason, the more that I consider it, the more I see this game totally flopping. Now I'm totally keeping my fingers crossed for the opposite, I'm just saying not to be too shocked if the beautifully open-ended concept results in dead ends, repetitiveness, super-extraneous features, and all-together lack of production. Think Spore here. But hopefully not. I'll keep looking forward to this game until it proves otherwise! -------------------- I find your lack of faith disturbing... |

Your description has me salivating. I mean, who among us hasn't wanted to see a T-Rex duke it out with Cthulhu?
I wonder if some provision will be made to add user-created content? or, perhaps, I misunderstand, and there already is such a feature? |

Yeah, this game honestly is the one that I am most excited about possiblly getting, maybe even more than FFXIII. I'm thinking about getting a DS this Christmas, so this game will be at the top of my list.

I saw it in action.
It is beyond awesome. Also, a T-Rex is apparently more powerful than God. I will have it. -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. Well, I'm glad you mentioned it Kane.
There is, infact, a level creator with the game. Scribblenauts is avaible at AmaCoN. There are a few trailers on Amazon, but if you want to see some of the really good action, check out Youtube. They have alot of people who tested it at E3 this year, and you can watch them try to stump the system. I have already had my game paid in full pre-reserved at Gamestop (which will get me an awesome rooster hat like Maxwell wears in game), or I would have bought through AmaCoN. I hope it isn't a 2nd Spore. I don't think it will be though, because unlike Spore, Scribblenauts wasn't popular because of who made it. First thing I heard about Spore, was that Will Wright was making it. Before I even knew what it was going to be like. Scribblenauts, however, was just an idea that 5th Cell had poured what money they made off of Drawn to Life into. The first year it was at E3, it had 2 little systems tucked away back in a corner somewhere. *shrug* I'm excited. I will definatly post Wed. or Thur. next week about how it is. The opening screen is a sandbox, so we'll see how many hours I blow just typing in stuff and watching it fight. A friend of mine demoed it a PAX and said that there were some glitches in the game. Like, she was trying to melt ice or something with a heat lamp and it wasn't working, so she asked one of the booth attendants and he couldn't figure it out. That's my only fear with this game, that things just won't be functional at all and there will be a lot of errors like that. I understand that it was a demo and that was like 2 weeks ago build but the game comes out what, tomorrow? I'll definitely be getting this game though.

This game does look like a nice, innovative concept. Will it work perfectly? Probably not, FH, heh. However, I hope people can mostly get past the inevitable glitches to justify more clever games like this. And I really hope people don't use the leaked acceptable word list.

I'm sure there will be many limits, but it's really more clever than anything I've seen in a long time. -------------------- |

I think in order to share the levels, you'll have to have a DSi, due to the compatibility of a SD card. I don't know for sure. I have a DSLite.
Well, after playing around with Scribblenauts for about half an hour, I'll give my first impressions of it. The game has faults, and I'll get them out of the way first. The controls are kind of sloppy. Moving your charecter and clicking on some of the smaller objects can be a bit annoying. Some objects may not interact as they were hoped for. Despite these points, the game is fun. If you are just going to try and get through the puzzle, you can probably use the same items over and over, however, the fun in the game is how creative you want to get. A Starite in a tree? How about making a Flame thrower and burning it down. Honestly, if you are looking for a perfectly polished game, this game isn't for you. However, the puzzles are fun, and can get your creative juices flowing. Challange mode can push your creative juices further. IMO, it is a solid game, despite it's flaws. -------------------- "And that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped” -Sir Bedevere the Wise |

This is my kind of game. Inappropriate solutions to simple problems. Cat on a house? Let's see:
I'm having most of my fun spawning random things in the free area. God kills Satan every time. Satan's actually a real pushover, a foot soldier can take him down. God, on the other hand, not so easy. I accidentally threw a grenade at him, and had to flee. I tried sticking a halo on my head to fool him, but it didn't work. I tried summoning a monster to fight him, but he just mounted it and came at me twice as strong and fast. I made a tank to fight back, but they tipped me over so the turret was facing the floor, and I launched myself off the top of the screen. For easy transport, try Spaceship. For funsies, try "SCIENCE". Flamethrower is my weapon of choice at the moment. |
