Hello i am new here. I am german so sorry for my bad english. I am playing FF6 at the moment and now I im really getting into the game. It is fun. Meanwhile I watch a Lets-Play about it on Youtube. Here is a link. I shoudnt be advertising, I didnt know the guy doing it, but it is really fun to watch, if you like.

I played the game before sometime but I didnt get into it, I just always used the "best" attack (most dmg) but I never knew why something is good, what are the Espers for etc.. I didnt found all characters and Espers, hadnt any good items, and i didnt even played to the end. But now i am playin it again from the start for real and just realized that the game have alot to offer which one may didnt notice first. In the past I just liked the gameplay, the atmosphere and story. Thats always most important in a game for me, thats why i was in love with Secret-of-Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) so much.

And for that is this thread. This page is really good when it comes to stats of Spells/Espers/Items etc, I had to google a while to find something good. But I dont found something about the game mechanics on there own. Sure higher stats are better, but I want to know how exactly to calculate the Damage and the Hit%, what do the 4 Basisstats, what the Defence (Magic-Defence)? What do the Effects ("Poison", "Dark", ...)? Is it possible to get 100% Magic-Evade and so become semi-invulnerable? Does Absorb add the damage just to the HP, or how it works exactly? If someone have something, please post!

I know till now:
  • Character max Level is 99
  • HP max is 9999
  • Dmg max is 9999 (but up to 8 attacks per Turn)
  • Stats max is 255
  • Evade and Magic-Evade stands for the % an enemy attack will miss/be dodged
  • Evade is bugged in the SNES-Version and it is also Magic-Evade. Evade himself does nothing.

Thanks for the Link. Great content.

I have read it all. It helped to understand. In genereal its pretty easy to understand the algorithms. Only the damage-calculation is a bit in-intuitive because it isnt really linear. And it is wierd that the hit% doesnt depend on the charakters stats but is ankored in the spells itself.

But this basically ansered all my questions.
