From playing and beating FFIII finally, getting into FFVIII and remembering the good ol' days of toying about with RPGMaker 98 and 2k with my friends, I wanted to get back into it again. I'm almost through my 30 day trial with RMXP, which is a great program, and I do still love it. I've managed to piece together a fun little story/game that's about an hour plus and completely off the top of my head as I've been going along.

At any rate, are their any other RPGMaker users our there? Any got some ongoing projects or want to get something going?

I know we've many skilled and genius programs who've been building things from scratch or rom-modding, but how about the *slightly* less genius-types who like using the pre-built systems and modding from there?

I tinker with RPGmaker 2k3 and I have XP for serious projects. I do it for my friends and family and don't release anything.

I finished making a game in RPM 2003 a few days ago. It sucks so badly.

Story:
Four guys suddenly appear in a strange world. An old man tells them a cliché tale and sends them to kill the big bad necromancer. For some reason, they have to find six crystals to become powerful, and kill the bad guy, but the bad guy gets there first, pukes idiotic catchphrases and vanishes.

They barge in his tower and beat him up.

Features:

20-minutes long
Rajin/Fujin and Ultimecia speech disorders
Seven towns you'll never enter because you don't need/have to
The characters mock YOU, the player
Odin is a retard
Sephiroth optional boss that's harder to beat than all weapons, Omegas, Shinryuus, Ozma, and FFX monster arena beasts together and at the same time. But it's easier to find than Cerberus in FF8.
Summoner ninjas and samurais

It really sucks.

I am using rpg maker xp

My story goes:

There is a very powerfull sorcerer who is a master in all magics:

necromancy/witchcraft etc etc and is a master of elements.

He gets a very promising necromancer student but who is very very evil and kicks him out because he would use his knowledge for bad deeds.

This necromancer leaves creates his own gang and you are to hunt him down, you are a fellow student of the school and find out where he went.

I added a few characters to the journey:

A stupid imp who is always getting into trouble who is brutally strong for such a small fellow.

A titan who is good with magic and balanced in combat with weapons and magic, mostly uses attack magic.

A female student who you start with who is pure magic and is not meant for close quarters combat

That is all.

I saw some stuff done up in VX, but it didn't really do it for me. The style of it just doesn't suit my fancy, I guess.

Got any demos or anything you've done? Anything playable?

What kind of ruins rpg maker xp is im trying to change the graphical character because i don't want a rehashed used character look and it wouldn't fit in the game.

Every time i try though i get this graphical error that leaves a blank area sorrounding the pic and this further unmotivates me.

Hrm... Are you saying that it doesn't fit because the image is too large, hxw wise? Too large mb wise? Or did you not save it as a PNG and thus the... um... "blank area sorrounding the pic"?

You need to leave the BG transparent with all the sprites in any RPGMaker and save the files as PNG files. I thought it said that it's supposed to read JPG format, which it does, but doesn't maintain the transparency for whatever reason. Lies! All lies!

What about creating events?

And can i move around the world away from the heroes? to create a sort of video?

I've been using 2003 for two years now, but I'm still very, very noob, so I can't help.

And I would gladly share my stupid game, if I only knew how to turn the project into a said game.

Many of the events are fairly self explanatory, just require some definite trail and error haha. That's how I made half the stuff work in my recent game I just "finished" up.

As for moving focus from the heroes, I assume you mean, like, camera panning? Pan to another part of the map for a bit and then move it back to the heroes? That's the move map event (I think that's what it's called). You can also create cutscenes by manipulating your sprites, either making the lead actor's sprite opacity 0 for the duration of the scene then change back to 255 when it transitions to play time, or change the sprite to whatever the central character/creature is for the cutscene!

That's what I really experimented in the game I was just working on - I was playing with making events and triggers work, along with some interesting cutscenes and the like. It was fun and largely turned out all right. If you have RPMaker XP and the RTP, I can link you my game for you to have a look at if you'd like!

Not anything good, really. I'm planning to make a real game sometime, but I need a good story and stuff.

Not anything good, really. I'm planning to make a real game sometime, but I need a good story and stuff.

I got a story for mine that i ended up being very worked up on.

It starts out there is this sorcerer that is extremely powerfull and a master in various arts, one of the people who signed up was a evil warlock.

The master sorcerer rejects him because he wishes to use his powers for bad and both of them disappear.

You start out as a studen and your to figure out what happened to your master in teaching magic and find out what happened to the alumni.

The alumni isn't very powerfull yet,but he is good at making stuff and is quite the person.

SO your alumni sorceress and a imp with a temper who gets into trouble as the warrior like class.

I was thinking of adding a few interesting stuff like:

You get to use various types of magic like:

Vodoo type magics
White magic black magic.

It would be in realtime of course and you would have to use ingredients for some.

The idea reminds me of one of those action games where you walk around and attack, but i would like for some spells to have repercussions

Like:Vodoo being used on a person in sight to get information by torturing someone in open crowd could call atention.

And it wouldn't be in a modern world,it would be in a mid evil world and would progress farther into the future.

My second idea, since i cannot make a game like that with rpg maker xp,because its not in realtime is:

Some spells you pick up with certain side tasks and your class changes.

The game then would be more about the story than the actual gameplay, and you will notice that i have more inspiration towards villains.

The gameplay would have afixed classes like:warrior imp who gains diferent abilities and each one has racial abilities.

I was thinking perhaps you can change classes between some characters but certain limitations like abilities that fit towards a race.
