I honestly hate the digital download age. I say we should stick with CDs they are easier to take care of than MP3s of which can easily get lost from power surges in hardware or one accidental click of a mouse.

Plus it gives credit card companies more power. I don't own a credit card and closest thing I may ever get is a debit and then I'll probably get screwed over with that some day.

Not only that what about this virtual console,Xbox live and PS network they are screwing us over with single releases of games that should be sold in compilation discs. and then the FF Advanced titles were rips if you go back and look at FF Anthology and FF Chronicles on PSX and then FF1 and 2 on PSP I can go all night.

I say just get Sonics Ultimate Sega Genesis Collection on PS3 or Xbox 360 get all the Sonics, Phantasy Stars,Shining Force,Streets of Rage,Golden Axe and much more fore the price of one FF remake no offense to FF classics but why not just put 1-6 on one disk a be through with it.

@Metroid: Did you know that the more a song is illegally downloaded, it gains exponential sales? Just an interesting fact.

I've actually heard that too. I was watching C-SPAN and they had a guy giving a lecture about Pirate Bay. Can't remember much because I watched it a long time ago, but he gave some statistics about how it helps sales.

I can't remember the reasons why, but what I would think is that it increases exposure of the song and the artist. And I don't think as many people use illegal sites as you would think. The reason is quality. When you buy a CD in stores, or download a song from iTunes, the quality is guaranteed. Pirate Bay, however, is hit and miss. That's why I don't think any part of the entertainment industry is in jeopardy. The entertainment industry will just adapt to utilize these new technologies.

Well, assuming this is true, keep in mind that when I said it hurt the music industry I was talking about a few years ago, around 1999-2003 when Napster went into full swing and all the litigation that followed. As I mentioned, there's been recovery since then.

As for increasing sales, I don't doubt it gives the song some exposure, but without seeing some statistical data as to how many sales that counts for (i.e. people who wouldn't have bought the song without pirating it first) versus how many it counts against (i.e. people who would have bought the song except for free pirating) I can't say one way or the other.

Well, if you look now at Twitter and MySpace, as well as the Soulja Boy phenominon, many artists have made their way just through the internet. CD sales are slowly dying, and the industry is now preparing to change, just as the News industry has.

But going back to sweetdude's point, illegal downloads will not kill the industry, rather the industry will use it to its advantage. Just as the film industry did with the New Hollywood films, and then that artistic movement broke for the Blockbusters. So, even if games go through an artistic movement, it will be used by the execs and twisted to their will.

But perhaps enough progression can occur to change the way games are made.

Edit
Man, I forgot about this topic. Thanks R51 for reminding me.
