Quote (laszlow @ 2nd July 2009 18:04) I don't think this game is directly connected to any main-series Final Fantasy game. We have no reason to believe that it is at all. Havent they already said it is a stand-alone final fantasy title, or was it just assumed and asserted? Seems to be in the style of, like, mystic quest, and easier ff title to bring in new audiences? EDIT: To add, even the title sounds like a stand-alone FF game, no number and a basic story harkening to FFI in a way This post has been edited by DrkMagimaster282 on 4th July 2009 04:30 -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. Huh. Well, there goes my theory for this being an extension of the Legend line from the original Game Boy days. I guess I'll wait to see the finished product before I make any final judgement calls, but uh...saving a princess? Gee, there's an original story concept...
I guess I can hope that they use that as the initial hook only to completely invert it through twisty plot. -------------------- Bright light, shine down on bloody impurity! Hol...Pearl?? |

I must admit that I grinned from ear to ear when I read that the first time. You've still got hope, I like that! I thought FFIX did the princess story very well indeed. That was definitely turning the formula on its head. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

I know that objectively, but I always tend to lump them in with the FF games anyway. And that tune just reminded me of Legend II for some reason (probably the chiptune sound). Damn you, Square marketing! *shakes fist* Though I would say, Legend III is about the most streamlined SaGa game I've ever played. Did they change it at all when they ported it overseas? I thought FFIX did the princess story very well indeed. That was definitely turning the formula on its head. Well, there's a lot of different ways it could go, in theory. They could have the game's perspective switch halfway through and have the princess saving the boy - or something less drastic in that same vein. Or they could make like FFT and Possible spoilers: highlight to view Heck, I'd even settle for them pulling a Star Wars and have the princess turn out to be a fake; or similarly, never exist at all. The princess is a lie... Possible spoilers: highlight to view making her the protagonist's sister. While I also immensely enjoyed FF IX (Chocobo Hot/Cold!), it's been a while since I played it. I could see the story as being a standard princess story done well, whereas I'm not sure I follow how it changed the formula. Is there something I'm forgetting...? -------------------- Bright light, shine down on bloody impurity! Hol...Pearl?? |

Quote The obvious reality? They're preparing to unveil Final Fantasy XV. Why would they unveil 2 Final Fantasy games in such a short time? Its more then likely going to be a new game entirely, but my hopes are for FF5 DS...I want to see FF6 DS. The formula is really bizarre, and all the better for it. FFIX spoilers. Possible spoilers: highlight to view Zidane captured the princess, but she wanted to be captured to escape. Steiner is supposed to be the one saving her to begin with. Then we find out that it was Cid who ordered the abduction of the princess in order to save her from her mother and Steiner is effectively the bad guy trying to capture her again. Then the whole thing gets more complicated when the princess lets herself be abducted again in a way and smuggled back to Alexandria by Steiner, although she's the one who poisoned the others. It's only after the queen has taken the Eidolons that a traditional hero (Zidane) storms the castle to save the princess (Garnet). I think the entire story is absolutely superb. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

I hope it's a FFV DS remake, that would be IDEAL! The only down side is that nobody on that dragon looked old enough to be Galuf, or effeminate enough to be Krile.

I hope that too, because it's one game closer to FFVI DS, which is what I want. Edit Okay, help me out with this, does that mean it will be announced tomorrow at 11 pm est.? From what was in English, It is on the Nintendo DS, but from what I've been reading into, its looking like a 3D remake of the first Final Fantasy(I still hope its FF5, then FF6 can be made!).

Click the main link, then when you see a box with 5 links, click the last one...it says Nintendo DS and RPG. I also learned a bit using a Japanese translater and Final Fantasy is in the title(I think).

Google translate won't translate the page (which is funny, because this is the only time I would use Google translate). Edit Could it possibly be FFVDS? FootBigMike has got you covered on the news page here.
But, back on topic, this new game almost seems like a Final Fantasy version of Dragon Quest IX to me. Oldschool style and exposition, probably some DS local wifi functionality, visible equipment worn by characters, and some level of character customization. All of that sounds like fun; color me interested. This post has been edited by laszlow on 6th July 2009 17:55 -------------------- |

We have video. It looks like the FF III and FF IV DS remakes, except *even more* colorful and cutesy. I'll keep an eye on it.

It looks awesome being the fact that it's a DS game.
Makes me want to drool even more at the possibility of a FF V or FF VI remake on DS someday. But for now I can drool over this game. -------------------- I treasure those who I love that love me in return. <3 |

I'd say it looks unlikely it's another remake of origins. I'm guessing a spin off based on the main story of origins. (except there wasn't much of one)
I doubt it's a remake given that there's a lot added and it would take a lot to cover up the fact there is a DRAGON vehicle, which only played the role of a boss and a handful of re-palleted enemies.
