Totally didn't see this coming.
But, Square has already created an official web page for FFXIV. Looks like its gonna be an online PS3 Game.

The trailer showcases some amazing FMV. I cannot imagine what the PC requirements will be XD

Still, I did not like FF XI...probably will try the trial and hope I like it.

Release of 2010!? IIRC there's never been two main series numbered games released in the SAME YEAR.

Graphics are beautiful but if it's an MMORPG I probably won't play it. Those types of games just suck away too much time.

There's probably a semantic argument to be made here, whether numerals count if they turn out to be MMOs, or whether MMOs are main series, or whether games spun from the same universe that share a numeral count, et cetera. Bottom line is that even if you take that straight up and say that there are two main-series, numbered games in one year, that still sounds a lot more like a bad thing than a good to me.

As fantastic as the visuals for XIV look, I didn't care for XI and doubt that XIV will be any different in that regard.

I had a bunch of friends who played WoW all the time. I know they went on raids and quests, but is that all you do?

Remember that they plan on incorporating a one player system into this as well. The details haven't been established yet, but you will be able to play it by yourself at least.

I wonder what's behind this all... from what I read on IGN, it sounds like the guys working with FFXI started working on FFXIV seperately, while the other two crews were chipping away at the pair of FFXIII games.

I won't judge this one yet. I think it could turn out pretty good, but that there will be less mercy towards it because of its MMO-ness.

I totally agree with you there, while FFXI looked visually really good to me, it was nothing to shake my wallet at. I didnt have the cash to pay for MMO's monthly or even yearly (im pretty broke, haha), so i just kinda shrugged it off and hoped XII would be better (and it really was, oh yes).

Ill probably do the same with XIV unless money gets flowing for me, buti hope S-E doesnt lose as much money as they reportedly did with FFXI (not their best in sales and all...)

Well, it's called Final Fantasy XIV, so I consider it "main series" whether or not it is an MMO. Admittedly, though, I think they should not give the MMOs main series numerals. Maybe Final Fantasy Online II?

Eorzea (if I am spelling that correctly)--I like it. I'm pronouncing it Orza for now...

Considering that there's a world of difference between playing say, Phantasy Star Online by yourself or online, that's not too encouraging.

Yeah, IMO I don't see why they didnt just remake ish FFXI for the PS3. This way won't they just keep ugrading FFXI and FFXIV? Seems pointless to me.. but, at the same time I could see myself being very tempted to buy FFXIV.

Also, Eorzea, kinda sounds like they just threw some letters together to try come up with a cool original fantasy name. Don't really like it... but hey. Whatever floats your boat.
Then again, lately I havent been too thrilled on any of their name choices for new games. I mean, Snow? Vanille? Really?

I'm currently assuming that Lightening, Snow etc are names they've adopted as part of their resistance movement either to hide their true names or because their names are decided by the controlling party. If not, then I'll be massively confused.

Then again 'Cloud' passed by me without much thought. I wasn't even a teenager at the time, however.

I haven't touched FFXI or even seen the game at all. Hey, they might pull off a brilliant alternative to other MMOs in FFXIV, or, more probably, a traditional MMO with FF spells and Cid in it.

Going to to skip out on XIV. Don't mind the mmo side of things and whether it should be apart of the main series or not. But it just doesn't look so ....

Never really was into the type of setting that XIV is being based on.

I don't have time for MMOs. In my limited experience you find yourself at a disadvantage when you have actual life things to do that take you away from gaming. Like having a job, a family, etc. Plus it pisses me off that I have to pay for a game, then continue to pay to use that game in the manner in which it was designed. Kind of ranting off-topic, but it also pisses me off that Sony expects me to pay for additional online content, like new levels of games I already paid SIXTY F'ING DOLLARS for.

I find it interesting that they had to push back XIII so much (especially working on two of them), and they're already trying to push XIV into public eye. I realize it's probably two teams that are making the different games, but seriously? Is it really that difficult to work out one idea at a time so you can make the deadline that the eager fans are expecting? Besides, a PS3 MMO doesn't sound like such a successful idea to me.. I was always under the impression that PC gamers were the ones who were crazy about MMOs.

First final fantasy 7 and 8 and 9 wich was meh ok and then 10 was a lil better and after ff12 still continuing on? Haven't you guys have enough?

Sorry to say but your risking the chance to make another bad game.

I have lost hope in final fantasy series and maybe i will look towards phantasy star or some other series if not maybe all hope is gone.

Not that I don't (mostly) agree with you on the deterioration of FF games, but, as people are still coming in droves to purchase what they're making, there's really no reason for them to end the series.

The problem though is they will keep making shitty sequels and they are running out of ideas.They need a new fresh series.

I'll skip this one. The only MMORPG I still consider (mind you, consider) getting and paying for (mostly because no "free" servers are available) is City of Heroes/Villains.

As awesome as the visuals are, they seem to have taken everything I DIDN'T like from XI and XII and glued it together.

I heard alot of terrible rumors about characters being flat in FFXII and that not only do they lack alot of personality but complaints about the actuall fighting sequences that were similar to vagrant story.

And from my experience it seems like a mixed bag.

Either you love FFXII or you downright hate it.

I found ffX to be good in personality btw,and story but i found it extremely linear.

Perhaps i'l rent FFXII if i can.

I don't want to buy it just yet as i am unsure.

And FFXIII black character sort of reminds me almost of gregory hines for some reason.

Final Fantasy XIV sounds great, but I wonder if they plan to charge users monthly and if so how much.

If there is a monthly charge, there's no way any of my friends with PS3s will touch it, which would be a real shame, as MMOs are all about playing with mates.
