okay, this may contain mucho spoilerage, and please excuse any US Military history mistakes here, im a limey and i think the HMSArk Royal is better than the USSEnterprise despite being smaller..

SPOILER ALERT!  Highlight to view:
i was watching the MGS3: snake eater trailer on my PS2 (gotta love UK mag PSW for its DVD goodness!) and after carless consideration, me and my brother came to the following conclusions
-The 1960's gear of 'Snake', the Hammer and sickle symbols as well as all those B-52's point to it being in Veitnam, possibly during the Linebacker 2 bombing (but that was early '70s i think)? or maybe the Cuban Missile Crisis? (does Cuba have anything that could be mistaken for jungles? either that or Afghanistan got rather Leafy when the ruskies invaded it...)
-BUT It may not be the 1960's this game is set in. The part where 'snake' holds a colt .45 to a man on a bike (admittedly a '60's bike, but it might be in Cuba..), leads to the man sayin "what is this, another grand theft auto!?" to which 'snake' replies "no, a sneaking mission!" and the man says "this is no vice city, we're in a jungle". either a fly dig at GTA:VC or its not MGS but GTA: Veitnam... but then again, for all i know, the japanses voice actors could be talking about whats for dinner, not GTA:VC
-If it is the '60s, it cant be the snake also known as Iriquois Pliskin breifly in MGS2, or 'Dave'; to his friends. the Les Enfant Terrible project was held in the '70s after all...
-FOXHOUND, when were they formed? perhaps the 60's, during  'Nam?
-In MGS 2, Solid Snake says "Im not a big fan of Blades" when Raiden obtains the sword thingy. in this trailer, 'snake' happily slashes the throats of numerous Veit Cong/Spetznaz/[insert enemy here]
-The end of the trailer shows somethign startling- 'Snake' appears to have hurt his eye, his Right eye. Where did Big Boss(who is genetically identical to Snake, Liquid and Solidus as they are more or less clones of him..) wear his eye patch again? Right?
-The parts we have saw so far may be a prelude to the main game. MGS2, all they showed for months was the tanker, and that was waht? thats right, a prolouge for the Big Shell section. MAybe this is the origins of FOXHOUND at the start, then Big Boss Juniors hunt for the Patriots? or possibly Raiden was a loony and MGS 2 didnt happen anywhere outside Jacks twisted little mind?

anyone else seen the trailer? :)
and im sorry, i have NO idea where it can be seen on the internet. nor do i know of any US mags that may have it on their DVD.

I haven't seen the trailer yet, but I do believe you are mistaken in your theory here.  The reason for which Solidus wore an eye patch was because he was hurt during your fight with the Harrier.

Solidus: "They got my eye!"

Seeing as how these are his exact words after the battle, I don't believe you can come to the conclusion I assume you are implying.  Unless, of course, you like to skip the video storyline of the game, thus depriving yourself of the entire purpose of the game in the first place.

Right, mehtinks you have your wirse a wee bit crossed, celtic moon..
SPOILER ALERT!  Highlight to view:

-i was talking about Big Boss'es eyepatch, over his right eye..
-Solidus hurt his LEFT eye. "Snake" seems to have lost his right eye here.
-Ocelot even says how Solidus looks like Big Boss with his eyepatch on, in Arsenal Gear (near the end of the game as you know)

clear thing up? :)

I see.

Guess I am more of a Final Fantasy fan than a Metal Gear fan.  It was just that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was the second PS2 game I bought (after FFX of course) and I absolutel love the game.

I am hoping to get around to the games prior to MGS2, but just haven't had the time lately.  Who knows, maybe MGS2 will do for me what FFVII did.

well i can't REALLY help you much but yes cuba has many, many jungles, and vice city isn't neccessarily a reference to gta -- it's a nickname for miami (which has a heavy cuban population incidentally)
