Just to clarify,
I'm not looking to have a 5 minute segment at the start of 10WB where you're Kefka... I'm looking for a good chunk of time spent as Kefka as you SLOWLY turn evil. We NEED to create a BUNCH of new characters for the 30WB segment, I mean, you can't have an ALL OUT WAR without killing off a few main characters... and we're bound to not kill off anyone who is around at 0WB. Lets get some more brainstorming done on the theory behind Jidoor and Zozo, we can use both ideas (the working class disapproving and revolting against Jidoor's caving to the empire, AND that the area Zozo is built in is cursed, maybe something in the mountains? Why else would you have Hades Gigas' running around beating people up and EVERYONE unable to tell the truth?) As for Kefka I was thinking that Kefka's father is a slimey politician who fathers him through his mistress then turns his back on him and eventually Kefka ends up in an Orphanage, grows up there and get's a job working as an IAF janitor in Cid's lab where cid is building the prototype Sky Armors and Spitfires ![]() ![]() Cid is asked to assume control of the Magitek laboratory once Gestahl brings back his first espers and Terra. Naturally Cid brings along the man who keeps his workplace spotless and the story progresses... This'll allow us to build the character of Kefka's father into someone in 30WB who will have similar character traits (albeit not to the insane level) as Kefka, and the player will not be aware until the name of the child is dropped by his mother the rabble that the child is actually Kefka. With Kefka being 5yo during the 30WB timeline we could actually work in some more "tough life" character building with Kefka before the player assumes control of him in 10WB. Thoughts? ~REXERRIFIC |

Well, I think those prototypes are supposedly Magitek, so they are probably newer than the Magitek armors which are a novelty in the original game.
What I am thinking is, to get Triangle Island into the story quickly, is to have Cid as the head of the airship factory there. So Kefka goes from being an aristocrat in Vector, to the son of some facotry worker away from the world. So he, at this time, is a good guy, but is driven to rise to a prominent position. Now, what we need is a storyline displaying hos the Esper World is found. Now this is just a suggestion, but perhaps the Blitz had help the Espers 1000 years ago to hide the Esper World. And it is this secret that could lead to the demise of the Blitz, and Gestahl finds this to be a source of power, he infiltrates their world as we see in the game. But, perhaps he doesn't know necessarily what he has found. By this time, the airship factory on Triangle Island has been destroyed, so Cid and Kefka have moved back to Vector. And finally, Kefka sees what his father had taken away from him, and thus his journey to evil begins, as he begins to become more of an important figure within the city. Holes can be filled of course, to spread out that story. -------------------- |

Quote The reason I wanted to change his age was simply to have that change happen quickly, because we'll have other characters to focus on. But I see why you guys want to stay as close to them anyways, but making him older does allow us to focus on others within the game more exclusively. These prototypes BECOME magitek, they're not powered by Magitek...
A few points: Triangle Island is associated with the Northern Continent and I'm really thinking that it should be a vacation spot NOT an Imperial airship factory locale. I'm also thinking that Jidoor should be the Airship producers, their plant should be on the bare strip of the western coastline. They sacrifice airship production when they cave to the Empire, they get paid off and send their former workers to live in apartment-style living in the depths of the mountain. The Empire's IAF production plant isnt destroyed though, it's still in existence come 0WB, I mean did you SEE all those Spitfires and Sky Armors?... I'm thinking it should be the first part of the Magitek Factory (note the Magitek armors rolling along the conveyors) before then it is expanded upon to create the Magitek wing (basically add on constructed past the trash heap home of Ifrit and Shiva) Kefka's GOT to be lower class all the way up to becoming a janitor, I'd like it if he found out who his father was right before he went crazy (maybe even killed his own father?), kind of like a catalyst in Kefka's life which makes him go nuts... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE discontinue thoughts of Kefka getting aristocratic or being high class before he starts to lose his sanity... him being upper class really detracts from his growing desire for power , it's more plausible for him to be "low class" secretly wanting power than for him to be "in power", "a good person" THEN wanting more.... A LOT of these traits and timelines which you are attempting to apply to Kefka could be easily applied to his estranged father, I'm thinking we would all be happy if a Blitz-trained Aristocratic father of Kefka could display Kefka's character traits and could fulfill all these 30WB character developments which you're suggesting... sound good? Ladies and Gents, I really think that Kefka's timeline is sufficient if we go from: Illegitimate Aristocrat's Son (Kefka's clueless to this though) ![]() to Orphan ![]() to Janitor ![]() to Test Subject ![]() to Doctor ![]() to Vengeful ![]() to Emperor's plaything ![]() to Court Mage ![]() to ABSOLUTELY nuts. ![]() I'm of the opinion that if we start throwing in "high and mighty AND a good person" in this mix it'll hurt the character development. Kefka going crazy with power after proverbially taking it from behind makes PERFECT sense given his character in 0WB... you start making him anything more powerful then the backstory of his personality building starts to crumble... I'm with you on the Esper world, maybe one of the Blitzers divulges the secret location to Gestahl in an effor to save his own life? Thoughts? |

Well that could work. They could be making those things, and then later use the drained power of the Espers to power them. Maybe we could use one of them as a vehicle in the game.
What I meant was him turning into an aristocrat after he is crazy. I want to explain the clothes and make-up he wears. Because, while Gestahl uses him, he is still a pompous jerk (remember, has the soldiers wipe the sand from his boots?). While he's turned crazy by the experiment, I still want the audience to feel like at least some of his personality is genetic (he inherits his father's bad traits). How about this? Zozo is formerly the town that holds the main factories. But when those industries are dismantled, the people living there are forsaken. It was a bad place to live anyways, but then the Empire and Jidoor sent their criminals there. That and the fact that it constantly rains makes it a dreary, god-forsaken location. I've always had this idea for the scene in the Returner's hideout, where they are talking about the War of the Magi. Sabin seems uninterested (which he never does, but either way), there's a reason for it. Sabin has heard all about it, over and over through Duncan. Duncan is obviously involved, and in our story, he knows all about the Espers and such. And I also had this idea where Duncan corresponds with Banon, and much of what is said in that meeting is taken from what Duncan has said to Banon. After the Blitz fell apart, Duncan helped Banon set up the Returners. But, the Blitz who "sells his soul" is a person who we have sprites for and one that fits Zozo's storyline as a makeshift prison. It's Dadaluma. He divulges the Blitz's secrets, and then the Empire places him in Zozo. Now, with his powers, how they keep him there is another story. I've always thought that he essentially loses his powers, and the Dadaluma we see is a shell of his former self. (I used this also to add some depth to Sabin's character. I want in our game to make the Blitz as something that is not only very difficult to learn, but also difficult to keep and maintain. So Sabin is struggling to keep his powers without his master, but he holds his struggle in) By the way, the reason I made a connection with Dadaluma and the Blitz is that they are both strangely similar. Look at these pics. Dadaluma Vargas They all have the same dress code, except Duncan. Perhaps because he's a higher level. -------------------- |

Blitz...
Riding a Magitek Armor or Sky Armor without Magitek power is a FABULOUS idea... YES! Bang on with the becoming an aristocrat after he starts to lose his sanity, I'm with you on the "Buffalo Bill" style insanity of getting into his harlequin style get up... As for the father's traits, yes, but not publicly displayed.... For example... Kefka is stepped upon and under his breath comments about what he'd like to do in vengeance or in private in his room which he boards in he dreams of grandeur and starts laughing out loud and the people he lives with can hear him laughing sadistically behind closed doors ... War of the Magi was 1000 years before... Sure the Blitzers know what's going on... dunno about the skill loss idea... But YES, Dadaluma IS DEFINITELY a Blitzer... maybe he's just low on the totem pole? _REX |

Okay. I'm glad you like it. It is like Buffalo Bill in a way.
And Dadaluma: the reason I wanted him to lose his powers is 1) show the consequences of our actions (AKA thematic reasoning) and 2) allow the Blitz to be even greater in strength (before the fall, of course). Or, essentially it's a gameplay reason. We can have numerous Blitz warriors in the party, and they can have many different abilities. Then again, Dadaluma might better as a snivelling weasel. The reason that the Blitz know is that they helped the Espers hide, and therefore were around during that time. And that actually makes them one of the things that survived the War. ![]() K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid No offense, but you are making my head spin with all the Kefka. I'm not opposed to giving him a background, it is necessary to give him one for this prequel, but man, that's too much. With all the stuff you're coming with, you'll have to write a “Creation Materials†book. Not only that, but making the connections with other characters is going to be tough work. Sorry if I'm annoying with my rants, but there's something that still bothers me, there's talk about the characters, towns and stuff, but we are still missing something very important. What's the main conflict? – What's this all about? What's the point? Can we summarize the game in one paragraph? (without referring to FFVI, that's cheating). I see a lot of different mayor and minor conflicts floating around. What's the main event? Are you thinking of an episodic adventure in the line of The After Years? Quote (BlitzSage) They all have the same dress code, except Duncan. Perhaps because he's a higher level. Or perhaps is because they got lazy and decided to go with a cheap recolor of Banon. I understand, Duncan only appears a little bit of time in a sidequest. By the way, you are forgetting the brawlers. And Yang!, it's more like the martial artist look. Some thoughts in regards to Duncan: Vargas is dark-skinned, neither Duncan nor his wife are so, but counting that Duncan is a cheap recolor, chances are he is also dark-skinned, see general Leo. There's also Xenogears' Sigurd. -------------------- "Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine |

I get your philosophy, but there is one thing you've got to remember: we don't have to include all this in the game, but we need to know it.
It's like Lord of the Rings. The story is essentially to destroy the ring, but there is a lot of backstory that adds depth. We need to know Kefka's story, even better than the audience does. The main conflict is essentially, the rise of the Empire and of the Returners. I had a story idea, but that was before you guys decided on the time periods. But we'll figure that stuff out. What we need to focus on is: the beginning of the Empire/fall of the Blitz, discovery of the Esper World and revival of magic, the destruction of the world's economy (trains, airships), and the beginning of the Returner's leading up to the events of the original story. Sandyboots, was wondering where you were... probably sitting there reading the novel of posts that rolled in since you last replied...
I agree, you're on the button, we need to organize, coordinate, delegate, assist and construct... Lets FIRST build the framework for the game , THEN chisel out the characteristics of each character, the structure of each chapter, then intertwine them. Along the way we need to edit sprites, tile maps and piece together the game. If we keep nitpicking about single variables and throwing down ideas in a haphazard fashion this is going to go nowhere fast. SO, I give you the proposed FRAMEWORK (remember, this is BASIC BASIC BASIC, a LOT of intertwining stories, characters, plots, and variables will be added as we go): GAME BEGINS, 30WB Gestahl is a young man in the Southern Continent main city, political unrest and infighting between the two factions (for SOME reason which we will work out at a later date) a civil war erupts, the North sides with Figaro and the Blitzers, the South wins though, SQUASHES the Blitzers, Figaro bails on them all, the North is assimilated, and Gestahl becomes the Emperor, the Blitzers are hunted down and eradicated (save Duncan of course) and one of them drops the info about the Esper world and Gestahl starts searching for it. FADE TO BLACK, PROGRESS 20 YEARS, (Gestahl's found the Esper World, Terra's been captured, Espers have been held in captivity) Kefka sequence plays out, user loses control of him, THEN WHAT? thoughts? Lets get the basics out then work in all the little twists and turns. ~~REXXIE |

What about a two-sided playstory? I mean, sometimes you will control the "good" and sometimes the "bad" dudes/your enemies..
Makes things more interesting IMHO - Just remembered the WC3 campaign Wanderers Of Sorceria...=))) This post has been edited by Bas on 2nd September 2009 17:58 |

lets get to that as we progress through the storyline, sounds like a possibility although it'd have to be clear to the user what side they're on, basically it'd be a VERY hard thing to achieve this in the aspect of having Kefka turn evil, it's better played that the user loses control of him.

I just thought you wanted to put all of this in the the game, which was absurd, sorry about that. Quote (Reidrex) Sandyboots, was wondering where you were... probably sitting there reading the novel of posts that rolled in since you last replied... Nah, I've been kinda busy with work, trying to get Dissidia, running from sects, shopping... Anyway! Quote (Reidrex) Gestahl is a young man in the Southern Continent main city, political unrest and infighting between the two factions (for SOME reason which we will work out at a later date) a civil war erupts, the North sides with Figaro and the Blitzers, the South wins though, SQUASHES the Blitzers, Figaro bails on them all, the North is assimilated, and Gestahl becomes the Emperor, the Blitzers are hunted down and eradicated (save Duncan of course) and one of them drops the info about the Esper world and Gestahl starts searching for it. THANK YOU! Looking good. It does seem like it could be played from two sides. Gestahl is shaping up to be the focus of the story, if we don't use the two paths, he'll have to be the main “hero†or “villain†of the first arc. And that raises more questions, who is Gestahl's antagonist? If he is the villain, Banon or Duncan could work as our heroes. Someone mentioned using the characters from the opera, it could be an option if it was West Vs East instead of North Vs South. (I always though it was Figaro Vs Doma due the uniforms, but then again Doma is on the East so it doesn't match). Unless you have a reason to be North Vs. South. Just and idea: Figaro could bail on them because of their own civil war. King dies, brothers aren't as cute as our twins so they fight, one is the true heir, the other has the power of the Church. Duncan could arrive about then...if we are following Duncan that is. If not it would be kinda odd jumping from the Empire to Figaro. It also could be managed like the scenarios in FFVI, you know when Locke, Sabin, Terra & Edgar go different ways and meet up in Narshe? This could end in the first Returners meeting or something like it. Now about the second arc. It's about Kefka, Kefka going crazy... nop, I got nothing. I can see the story but not the gameplay that would go with it. We need another conflict of bigger scale than Kefka missing his buttons. What about working on the 30WB first? If that comes along smoothly, make a sequel for the prequel? Dunno how I feel about Dissidia personally, not looking to turn my back on it but dont think I'll invest... plus the ex-girlfriend still has my PSP (Loco Roco)...
Anyways, I think for control in 30WB we should follow this progression: ADD Gestahl (starting) ADD 3 non-0wb characters (such as Kefka's dad, progressively as Gestahl accumulates a following) SWITCH TO THE NORTH (once Gestahl becomes the leader of the South) ADD Banon (coordinating armies) ADD Arvis (enlist) ADD non-0wb characters such as Blitzer and a knight of some kind MINUS non-0wb characters (slain) MINUS Arvis (leaves to take shelter in Narshe after a gorey battle where the user loses the 2 non-0wb characters) ADD Colisseum Guy (enlist) ADD non-0wb character (chemist maybe?) ADD Duncan (enlist) MINUS Colisseum Guy (gets seperated from the group somehow, near Kohlingen, I think they should probably go searching for the Ancient Castle, maybe the soon-to-be Empire is pulling a "Nazis from Raiders of the Lost Ark" deal and is looking for Ancient weapons and this crew tries to stop them?) MINUS non-0wb character (slain during the last fight in the Ancient Castle passage) ADD Gung-ho (enlist in Nikeah) ADD Strago (joins the party when bumps into "his childhood friend" Gung-ho) MINUS Banon & Duncan (user goes on a Strago-Gung-ho side quest) ADD Ultros & Chupon (as normal people, treasure hunters I'm thinking) MINUS Strago & Gung-ho (User goes on an Ultros Chupon side quest, search for a forbidden treasure) ADD Gogo (dont know how I'm gonna work this in but Gogo HAS to make an appearance and I think with Ultros and Chupon it'd be the best place to fit him in) MINUS Ultros & Chupon (something changed them into what they are now) MINUS Gogo (trapped in the Zone Eater) SWITCH TO Gau's father (vacationing on Triangle Island, the Zone Eater unleashed the Intangirs and Gau's Father needs to make a run for it, makes it to the boat back to the mainland as the entire town get's Meteo'd) ADD Cyan's father and a young Cyan (they meet Gau's father in the East Coast port, they both are heading West to Nikeah to enlist, they get sidetracked to the Northern Port by the Imperial landing party) MINUS Gau's Father and Young Cyan (they try to slip past Imperial lines and only Cyan's father makes it on the last train along the Northern Coast) ADD a moogle and a sasquatch (I made a mining outpost on the Northern shoreline) MINUS the moogle and sasquatch, ADD Setzer's father (Cyan's father hops an airship to Nikeah piloted by Setzer's father) MINUS Setzer's father and Cyan's father (the airship is shot down by an Imperial Air Force armada) SWITCH TO Banon & Duncan (In Tzen, preparing for the southern siege) ADD non-0wb character x2 MINUS non-0wb characters (slain, bloodbath) ADD Cyan's Father (rode a piece of the wreckage down to the Northern tip of the Southern continent) MINUS Cyan's Father (slain, bloodbath) ADD Strago and Gung-Ho (appearing for the final fight) MINUS Banon, Duncan, Strago and Gung-Ho (they get seperated during their retreat from the bloodbath and all go into hiding) FADE OUT on 30WB timeline. Now I pretty much just winged that so lets talk about it, adjust it if need be, build on it, then get to work... ~REX This post has been edited by Reidrex on 3rd September 2009 17:23 |

I'm counting around 20 characters (got confused with the ones that are not named), isn't that a little too much? This is looking like FFIV:TAY, an episodic adventure with a bunch of generics. I say that if there isn't a good reason to add a character, don't add them. Just think of poor Umaro roaming in the Falcon while all the other guys have fun at Kefka's tower.
From what I understand, you are the one that's going to do the programming, right? Just imagine all that mess of characters each one with an especial ability. People I would get rid off: All the guys that are fillers... And you lost me after the Banon and Arvis part, everything reads like a sidequest or has no plot importance, I don't see why we have to play as this people or why are they fighting. Also I don't understand why Cyan's and Setzer's fathers are involved and many others for that matter. One last complain, I couldn't help to notice that there aren't any females in your line-up despite a lot of randoms being thrown out there. Why can't we use say Lala (Strago's wife) instead of the Colisseum guy? It is always this dude's father or that guy's dad. If FFVI taught us something is that moms kick butt. That and you need to fill the three females per game quota. -------------------- "Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine |

I think Setzer's father is pertinent, but Cyan would be 20 years old by the 30WB storyline, so I think we should actually use Cyan instead of his father.
Also, I think we are jumping into the intricate details too quickly here guys. I think we should set up what the conflict is with each storyline, and basically place it into a storyline model. Then fill in the details after the framework is set. And we also need a general timeline, to decide what happens when, and what leads to what. Whoa whoa whoa.... I'm NOT going to be doing all the tech jazz... I can draw maps, edit sprites, and try my best to get this thing off the ground but I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED help... like I need it... and honestly, my first opening post said "GROUP EFFORT" (I seriously dont want to {nor do I have the time to} Bogart this operation) me taking a good portion of the creative credit is NOT my objective, Although it's a little hard to sit there and draw out someone elses ideas when you have a really GREAT mental picture of your own...
90% of this stuff is NOT hard, I think that all the people PMing me noticed the footnote on my message asking what their contributable skills were.... Yes Sandy, I want you to PM me, let's get personal... hahaha j/k Seriously though, EVERYONE, I'll become more open to your opinions and adjustments if you start helping me with this workload... my current faves are Sandyboots, DelNorte and Blitzsage, but you 3 arent anywhere near the top of my list YET... HELP ME!!! Sandyboots, I love you, you know that right? The 20 character deal is to add some variety into the mix, to fit the older 0wb characters into the plot and for the 30WB bloodbath we need to have a whole bunch of NPC's die and need to kill off a few user controlled characters... you can't have a bloodbath with no blood and we can't kill off any of the 0wb characters so we NEED new characters... albeit disposable. The plots for this game are going to seem a little side-questy (it's not like the world needs saving every decade!)... I'm looking to have the finished product be more intertwiney and trying to confront a unanimous goal, if you note, party size is always 4 or less, this is to accomodate limits imposed by whatever game engine we decide to use... Sorry about the Male perspective, I really didnt realize it as I wrote it, I pretty much whipped that together while my screen loaded at work today, I know what you're saying, you can't make a game COMPLETELY about men as a prequel to a game where both chapters start centred around a lady ... So... lets make the non-0WB characters more than 50% female, add Gau's mother into the mix during the "Escape from Triangle Island" sidequest. Definitely Strago's wife, she's got magic too right? How about we plunk her down before Ultros and Chupon come in, maybe we put her in then add Ultros, minus her, add Chupon (why dont we make Chupon a woman!!!), then minus Strago and Gungho, I was thinking an Ebot's Rock quest... for whatever reason (if you havent noticed already, I'm down for throwing a few darts and justifying their landings later) Lets put Darryl's mother in with Setzer's father and make the Sasquatch female! Bingo Sandyboots, now you're happy, eh? (Yeah, I'm Canadian...I know... typical, eh?) Blitz, this is what I'm trying to do here... this is Framework and up for debate, it's a skeleton model that we're going to build a body around, no sense bickering about small details then having to rethink them entirely once we decide how they need to mesh with other parts of the game. So please help us get the flow for the 30WB timeline going, we'll figure out the BASIC details then build from there. >>>===========R====E====X===============:> This post has been edited by Reidrex on 4th September 2009 04:11 |

Well, what I meant is I'm having trouble with the format of the plus, minus thing.
Basically, the plot of what is part one, 30WB, should center around the rise of the Empire. I think it should actually span more than one year, or 30WB. I think it should actually jump from 30WB to 18WB, when they find the Esper World. Act 1: Gestahl becomes a member of Vector's ruling class in the midst of chaos and revolt. The Blitz are at odds with the aristocracy, who believe they are becoming too powerful. Gestahl becomes popular within the group, and ascends in power, and befriends a Blitz soldier disillusioned with the system of power in Vector. Plot Point 1: Gestahl and this Blitz soldier, along with Banon and Duncan as the party within the game, and Gestahl is told by the Blitz soldier that there is a secret cave (the Sealed Gate Cave), hidden somewhere in the eastern mountains. This begins Gestahl's quest for power. Act 2: Gestahl and this Blitz soldier create a coup and seize power. The First Imperial War begins and the Blitz are torn apart. Some, however, still remain, and they help form a resistance to the Empire. Act 3: The Empire's dreams for power begin as Dadaluma tells the secret, and the resistance fails as the Blitz are destroyed. That is what I think pt. 1 should be. Forgive me, I didn't read all of your post, bc I was in school all day and I had to read a lot. So fit this and change it how you want. Edit Quote maybe a bunch of fade out time lapses? Exactly. You can disregard most of my post, as I am very tired and have to get up early, so I didn't read everything. And that reminds me of an idea I had. We need to organize things a little. We could have a post that is our timeline, plot, characters, etc. that we can edit/add to. We can have it say: Official [Character List/Plotline/etc.] in bold letters. 30-18WB sounds good to me, but also sounds like a LONG game to be making... maybe a bunch of fade out time lapses?

Quote (Reidrex) Bingo Sandyboots, now you're happy, eh? (Yeah, I'm Canadian...I know... typical, eh?) I'm not sure if you are making fun of me, trying to be funny or actually being serious. Calm down man, you forgot women exist, I reminded you, that's all. You don't need to make half the cast female, dear heavens!, especially not Ultros. I'm in favor of the three girls per game pattern, it's like Cid or Biggs and Wedge. So what if you're Canadian?, I'm Mexican and you don't see me complaining about everything and doing nothing about it...wait >_> Quote (BlitzSage) Act 1: Gestahl becomes a member of Vector's ruling class in the midst of chaos and revolt. The Blitz are at odds with the aristocracy, who believe they are becoming too powerful. Act 3: The Empire's dreams for power begin as Dadaluma tells the secret, and the resistance fails as the Blitz are destroyed. Hey, hey, this actually sounds pretty good. So Gestahl is the hero but then he turns around. Kinda like what plays between the Baten Kaitos games. Act 2 and 3 need a little more ground, in which side are we playing on? I was thinking (and that's just me trying to get rid of more new characters). What if this Blitz soldier is actually Duncan?, he believes blindly Gestahl's ideas and helps him. When he realizes the truth, he tries to form the resistance, but it is too late. His blitz team mates blame him for the rise of the Empire and he has no option but to flee to Figaro in shame. And that is how he survived. -------------------- "Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine |

What I was thinking is that a boss fight could occur between the party and this Blitz soldier at the end of the 30WB storyline. It is his death that allows Gestahl to rise to power in Vector. But maybe Duncan is involved, thinking the formation of the Empire is a good thing. Plus, the Blitz soldier that is the catalyst of the coup is Duncan's best friend, and perhaps a major party member. -------------------- |

OH-KAY...
So, I`m going to ignore the perception that some people think that a Canadian has the psychic ability to tell that they`re mexican and would actually think that said Canadian would start an elaborate insult with the line "I love you", especially to one of the people that time and time again praised my ideas... YES, I wrote my aforementioned plot while I was working, I wrote in 3 words at a time while I was waiting for people to pick up their phone... Personally, I am for having a significant female portion to our game... no, I wasnt joking... Not Ultros, CHUPON... ![]() This "taciturn" friend of Ultros's, who ne'er utters a single word in the entire game (only "Aaaaaachooooooo!!"), who we have the world as our oyster to invent a back story and character traits for... I propose we make Chupon a woman... and now I'm feeling like M.Night Shyamalan... WHAT A TWIST!! And honestly, if we made the Sasquatch a woman, what would it really matter, it's not like it's going to make a difference to anyone? ![]() And Darryl's mom seems like she'd be pretty kickass... ![]() and Gau wasnt concieved immaculately, so what was his father doing on a vacation island without his better half? ![]() Yes I'm serious. No I wasnt taking the piss... YES I'm Canadian... "So what?" you might ask? I was sitting here typing and noticed that I ended my sentence with the word "eh"... yes, THAT is what's typical... Anyways... I've been scoping out RPG Makers, I think '03 is the one for us, gotta trouble shoot it a little but the mapping system is Hexidecimal (16-bit) rather than the higher res on XP and VX. On this note I still have yet to see ANYONE offer to assist me with the hard labour of correcting tilesets, editting sprites, adjusting maps, etc. etc. etc. ... how's about in stead of ignoring the question you all just say "No, I dont want to actually help you Reidrex, I'm content just telling you what to do and putting my feet up while you do all the work..." ~THE REX |

I don't think we need to worry about that. For one thing we have many possible female characters. And, FFVI contained two of the most powerful female characters of the series.
Also, let's not overload te cast. Just because the first game had 14 characters doesn't mean we need a lot of characters. I say we keep the cast as small as posible. -------------------- |

Well let me answer that question of yours Rex. I would like to help with the spriting and map making. I've been trying to reacquaint myself with rpg maker 2003 for that reason. I also have alot of the charasets and tilesets for ff6 on my computer. Some of the tilesets are incomplete but I am slowly fixing them up.
Maybe I'll start making a few test sprites for our main characters like a younger Duncan (20-30yrs old?), and Ultros and Chupon(male and female sprites til we decide if its one or the other) in their human forms. Even if they serve as only placeholders we can get a visual image of the characters, I've always found that it helps with the creative process. * After a little work here are some sprites, and I tried to keep within FF6's limited color pallet: Here's Duncan, I wasn't sure how old he would be in your time-line so I made him at different ages. ![]() And here is Ultros, who is one of the few ff6 sprites to include purple(or violet whatever..) in his sprite... ![]() And finally here is Chupon/Typhon in both male and female forms. I didn't use the bright pink colors of his original sprite. Instead I went with the closest reds within the palette because with the pink colors he seemed out of place with the rest of the sprites. ![]() Now with Chupon's name being changed to Typhon..or is it Typhoon in the GBA version of FF6 it makes me wonder. Are you basing your lore info solely on the SNES version, the GBA, or mixing to two together possibly? Now I enjoyed the Ted Woosley translation for the SNES game, but I also liked the GBA version is some areas. Maybe in the case of Chupon you could combine the names to Typhon Chupon. DelNorte,
You are my new favorite person... ![]() Honestly, I was half expecting everyone to answer "Yes Rex, we're lazy!" and in response I was gonna have to shut down this thread and do all the work myself... ![]() So, Duncan... I have nothing I would change about these sprites, so why not have him age during each timeline? He's basically the same age but different dress for the first 2 and basically the same age, same dress but facial hair difference in the last two... I'm all for him growing a beard, would this work well with the RM2003 framework? Could we transfer accrued stats to a new sprite mid-game or adjust the aesthetic of a sprite mid-game? Ultros is AMAZING... loving the Cloud hair... there is only one change I can recommend, his chest is a little plain looking, and this is only due to the colour choice, how about this minor edit to a black shirt and gold chain? ![]() Typhon Chupon is a cool name, and androgynous? I'm honestly still pro femme fatale... especially seeing those two sprite options, she looks better standing by Ultros' side than the male version does... who's with me? ![]() OR... ![]() ? So, have you animated all angles on these sprites or just these face-front proofs? |

so, i keep looking back at these two pics of Chupon and Ultros and I literally can't decide anymore... they both look like they would adjust the manner in which the characters would interact (the woman looks very intraverted hence the mute Chupon in 0WB, the man looks like he'd be a little taciturn but he and Ultros'd probably be quite chummy in our game)
Also, thoughts on keeping these two human until the -10WB timeline? !Rex Moderator Edit You also shouldn't be double-posting, despite this being a creations thread now; please edit your post to include your new commentary, next time, thanks. -R51 This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 10th September 2009 00:09 |

Good I'm glad you like the sprites.
With Duncan I was thinking this could be his -30 sprite ![]() And this would be him at -10 resembling his older self minus the beard ![]() And then the sprite you are familiar with. ![]() With Ultros Yeah I like the color adjustments you made I'll work that in. Chupon, I guess we can see what which sprite other people like and go from there. Regardless, the lest popular sprite can be used in some other character then. Annnd, I've only done the front sprites of the each character because I wanted to get an opinion first, before I committed to making the whole sprite sheet for each sprite. I'll start on the rest of Ultros though soon. |
