Yao Ming's latest injury is a lot more serious than the Houston Rockets originaly thought, the China mega star had suffered a leg injury against the Lakers during the second round of the western conference playoffs that forced him to missed what was remaining of what seemed like a Rocket upset over the Lakers, and now the Rockets are saying that Yao will most likely miss the entire upcoming season and possibly even some of the following season. This a serious blow to the Rockets, a team that started the 2008-09 season with championship hopes has seen how they've downgrade from championship contenders, to a franchise that should now think about rebuilding. McGrady is not the answer, they should move him for money, a player and a draft pick, and Yao well, he is still young so if I was the Rockets I keep him and give him one more chance, but if they decide to trade or release him it's still a good decision.

The NBA has to be scared right now, if they loose Yao they loose a super massive amount of chinese fanbase, let's face it, most chinese watch basketball because of Yao or LeBron, and some Kobe, but that's it!

Bestselling NBA jerseys in China (data from last year):

1) Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
2) Kevin Garnett, Boston Celtics
3) Tracy McGrady, Houston Rockets
4) Paul Pierce, Boston Celtics
5) Allen Iverson, Denver Nuggets
6) Gilbert Arenas, Washington Wizards
7) LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers
8) Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat
9) Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic
10) Yao Ming, Houston Rockets

That data is antiquated, and I'm 100% sure that LeBron James would be in the top 3 in a more current list, but it illustrates the point. China has a lot of NBA fans; not just Yao fans.

Funny thing is, after his first year in the NBA, McGrady jerseys were selling better than Yao jerseys - he isn't even the most popular player on his own team in China. Yao is a very talented and skilled player when he's healthy, and it's a shame if his career comes to a close. But he was the spark that started the NBA's popularity in China, not the fuel.

That's terrible news. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone would give up that much for McGrady. After seeing AI flop in Detroit, I think people will be more aware of bringing in an older "me" player to a team. He may get moved, but not for players AND picks.

Yeah, why is AI still on there?

But anyways, that's horrible man. I think he was just too big. Often people that are that big aren't healthy. It's sad to see someone's career end.

Now chinese fans are saying that the Houston Rockets are lying about Yao's injury, that the Rockets use him too much, that the Rockets didn't know how to handle Yao leg. WTF? Big men in the NBA when they get injured, specially on a leg or a knee, most of the time the injury is serious. For example, look at players like Mutombo, Reeves, and even Greg Oden. It takes months and sometimes full seasons for this tall guys to heal leg injuries. Of course Houston is going to use Yao a lot, that's why they drafted him, I mean, the Rockets didn't win tittles with Olajuwon sitting in the bench, they sure ain't going to with Yao in the sidelines. The Rockets should trade the man and McGrady as well and start rebuilding this franchise, because I bet that when Yao gets back he will injure the same leg that very same season!

Injuries take time to heal and some players aren't the same. I know this may be off topic, but seriously doubt that Tom Brady is going to lead the Patriots to some 14-2 record and super bowl win next season. I think his injury is also major, but I think that team will go 11-5 and a playoff loss.

Either way got to be careful with injuries.
