Holy crap, it's been forever since I've started a topic here.
What I want to ask is: What are the stats and scripts on each of the following enemies: * Guardian (Vector) * Guardian (Thamasa) * Guardian (Kefka's Tower) I would guess that the first two are probably the same, but significantly different (in stats and scripting) from the third. I know that the first two are (supposedly) effectively invincible; it's just that CoN's boss database doesn't include stats for them. As a sidenote, this question was born out of trying to figure out whether the Guardian counts as a Beef Gate. As far as I know, you can not kill the Guardian in Vector, I'm not sure about Thamasa though (wasn't even aware that it was there). The one in K's Tower can be killed. It's level 67, got 60,000 HP, well, I guess I'll just give a link. Guardian Wikia
So yeah, it is a beef gate. Never heard that term before, but I have heard broken bridge before. -------------------- |

A beef gate differs from a broken bridge in that the latter requires some sort of plot event/item to get fixed, but a beef gate should be passable if you're high enough level.
I think the Guardian might count as a broken bridge, because it's officially impassable, even if you're infinitely leveled. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. There is the link to the Monster Script FAQ by bover_87 which is at GameFAQs. Go there and Ctrl+F to search for guardian and it will list that monster's scripts. |

Quote (Glenn Magus Harvey @ 22nd April 2009 22:37) I think the Guardian might count as a broken bridge, because it's officially impassable Exactly. There is no event for removing the WOB Guardian. If you defeat it with Joker Doom via glitch, or Smoke Bomb through Muddle abuse (which counts as a kill to the event engine, citing Doom Gaze as an example), the game will acknowledge the win in battle, then promptly forget it ever happened, acting as if you lost anyway. There's not any objective reason to pull it off either, since there are no prizes for victory. As for why you can win in the first place, WOB Guardian's invincibility doesn't cover the setting of status, and Joker Doom doesn't have the instant death protection bit set, giving it the same kind of power that such enemies as Retainer and Outsider have. It has the triple 7 ban in place in its formation stats, but that only goes so far when 7-7-BAR can be redirected through the application and removal of Muddle, and on FF6A, there's a major bug in the rigging mechanism that forces Slot to work in the player's favor when triggered, ban or no. It doesn't help that said bug is incredibly easy to use; just confirm the first 7 while another character or enemy is setting up a skill (when the skill name text appears above or during the setup animation/enemy flashes). When the Can't Run bit isn't set in the monster stats, all means of escaping work for anyone, and when it's on, only the Escape ability works. WOB Guardian has the bit off obviously (you couldn't get away normally otherwise), so Muddle/Smoke Bomb can "kill" it. If you're curious, the battle engine does count that as an enemy escape, as it should, so you'd only get Magic Points/AP for such victories. It's just the event engine that mistakenly counts this as a kill. -------------------- |

The event engine has catches for "ran away" and "died", but there isn't one for "won". Is that why it mistakenly counts as a win; out of sheer oversight?

WHOA. IT'S MASTER ZED.
THE MASTER HAS RETURNED. ...so what happens if you "win"? Does it just throw you the win animation then continue the battle? Or does it not even set up the win animation, cause the Guardian to be removed from battle ("killed"), and continue the battle indefinitely? That's likely part of it. Another part (this is just a guess) could be that enemies only run away by using Escape, so there may be something unique about the spell that prevents the game from registering a death. Quote ...so what happens if you "win"? The battle acts as if you killed any other regular enemy party. You get the typical death fade-out, the victory dance, and then an immediate blackout because of the absence of prizes. Once you return to the map, the game acts as if you ran away because there's no alternate scenario to play out. It's like Sarda from 8BT is the Guardian's pilot. -------------------- |
