New, fast internet browser from google.
Download Link! Eula Problems! Oh yeah, and it has an option that allows you to browse the internet being anonymous. This means not saving any cookies or not leaving any traces in your browser history. Possible spoilers: highlight to view Porn mode. Besides that, it seems a little buggy to me, browsing youtube and facebook. What are your experiences, and are you going to ditch Mozilla? I believe i will return to Mozilla until they teach google Chrome how to youtube properly. Edit Behave properly, not youtube properly. This thing is just way too "Beta", having used it for a day now. I won't change my primary browser unless I have a compelling reason to switch. (I originally moved from IE to Firefox, then Phoenix, in 2003, when I was first building the Scanner theme for CoN - it made me realise how backwards IE6 was at the time.) Chrome hasn't provided me with one so far, cute as its introductory cartoon was. I might be more tempted if Firefox 3 hadn't come out, and there weren't already cool things in progress for Firefox 3.1, including a privacy mode very similar to Chrome's, announced some time ago - IE8 will also have a similar feature, I understand, along with the tab process isolation Chrome advertises. Its fast V8 JavaScript engine is already being outperformed by the one in Firefox 3.1, by the way.
I've tried it, though. The UI is a little too minimalist for me, and I'm not a particular fan of non-native(-looking) stuff. It wins over Safari on Windows at least due to not being a clump of Apple plastered over the wrong OS. Being based on Webkit, it gets the CoN seal of approval in terms of web standards at least, although Gecko in Firefox is still our renderer of choice. The extra competition will do all the vendors good, I think. There are a couple of very competent ex-Mozilla guys working on it and they're bound to have a few more tricks up their sleeve before it gets out of beta (which won't be for another four years at least, judging by Google's previous meaningless plastering of "Beta" over everything it does.) |

I downloaded Chrome and so far, I can point out a lot more flaws than redeeming factors. Pretty much the first thing I did was click my mouse wheel to scroll down CoN main page. And that didn't work. Not off to a good start.
The interface lacks much of a customize feature, or any Settings/Options menus. Also, in Firefox, closing the last tab brings you to a blank (Untitled) tab, instead of closing the browser, like Chrome does. So, i've accidentally closed it 4 or 5 times without thinking. And, is it me or does Chrome seem quite a bit slower than Firefox? eg, In the time it took to load CoN, I had got bored and opened Firefox and loaded CoN, and Chrome was still taking it's time. And it lacks the "Save these pages" option when you quit Firefox, and that's a function I like quite a lot. There are a few other things that I could nitpick at, but I definitely won't be switching from Firefox. |

I'll probably try it out when I have some free time. Right now I have firefox on one computer and Opera on the other.

I actually did install Chrome just a couple days ago on my new work PC, as part of a spree where I also installed Opera 9.5 and Safari 3. It certainly did seem fast, though all I've used it so far was to pop CoN up out of curiosity.
I'll probably just move it to my Vista PC at work when it is delivered, because I don't envision using either for much more than occasional testing. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I've actually been using chrome since it came out, and it is now my default. It runs so much faster than explorer and it doesn't seem to have any problems on my laptop aside from being unable to play some flash applications. I really like it.

For whatever reason, I find this works much faster than Firefox. When loading CoN it does so at least three seconds faster.
I actually like the minimalist design because most of the space is taken up with the website rather than grey bars. I have quite a small screen on my laptop so this is perfect. I'm really surprised by it. I thought I was a die-hard Firefox user, but it just can't compare to the tiny size and speed of Chrome. This doesn't sound like the case with everyone, so maybe it just responds well to my system. I've been using it for a while now and I don't think I'll be going back. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind.
