Rock and rock oriented. Can't be more specific than that. I don't buy albums too often, so I go by the radio I listen to which is tuned to either a rock station or a classic rock station.

What? Shudder? Do you seriously know Coheed and Cambria and dislike them? They've been my favorite band since they came out with Second Stage Turbine Blade in 2002, and I didn't know they had made it big until I heard they got on the Vans tour this year and were getting radio play. What songs are they playing on the radio? The pop-type stuff, like "Favor House Atlantic" and "Devil in Jersey City"? Sorry if this seems a bit excessive, but like I said, until recently I didn't know of anyone else that had heard of them, and now two posts in a row? Craziness.

Anywho, back on topic more, my tastes have likewise changed a bit since the begining of this post, so I'm adding a couple more albums to my favorites list:

Appetite for Destuction - Guns 'n' Roses
Hearts of Oak - Tad Leo and the Pharmacists
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 - Coheed and Cambria
More Betterness! - No Use for a Name
Rock and Roll: Part 3 - Ozma
Metology - Judas Priest
The Unauthorized Biography Of Reinhold Messner - Ben Folds Five

These are in addition to the 10 I mentioned earlier, which have not moved from my list.

yeah dude...listen to second stage turbine blade a bit first and then try to say that they're music makes you shudder...in which case it must be from overloading on aohwesome! I've seen them twice live, my brother has played at least one house show with them, the guitarist in my band knows about 50% of their songs (including some songs from shabuti (sp) and claudio's side project...
If you want to talk about bands who make people shudder try slipknot...I don't understand how you can appreciate good metal like in flames and then fall so far as slipknot...and korn?! quick...run to the store and get the first album by the haunted that you can find.

In other news...io putting in ben folds five makes me smile

If I ever posted in this thread, it was a long time ago.

My favourite bands are The Cranberries, Evanescence, and Sixpence None the Richer. I don't really prefer pop-ish (read: modern) music, though. In fact, most of it just irritates the hell out of me. (I'll leave it at that, instead of explaining why just about every band other people have named gets on my nerves. wink.gif )

Well, you might not like Deadpool, 5 Factor Model, Ministry, or D-Railed, but I assure you they aren't pop in the least. happy.gif

A lot of bands that probably no one's ever heard of, or know very little of.

Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star

I get that a lot.... biggrin.gif

Korn = the creaters of Nu-Metal which is my favorite type of music other than black and death metal.....

SLipknot - i dont know just something about their first album that made me love them then Iowa came out and i seperated myself from them but their new album is really worth checking out..... Vermillion, Vermillion Pt.2, Circle, Prelude 3.0 are all great songs on the new album....

I am not gonna bother to type what everyone else has said: Led Zeppelin, The Who, etc...But if you guys want a good bassist, sure all these guys you are saying are pretty good, you should check out Ozma. Their bassist is unreal. I suppose I am biased, being an Ozma fan and playing bass. But really he's awesome.

But Les Claypool(while a damn good musician) has lots of tricks. Like he plays with a tremelo bar. His lines were all constructed specially to sound quicky and a lot more difficult than they actually are. This is not to take away from their validity as basslines, but if you're just listening and not attempting to break them down and figure out what he's doing, you may think they are a lot harder than they actually are. He taps, to take away from actually picking each note. Uses the whammy bar, like I said earlier in songs varying the pressure. Remember I am not saying that he sucks, not at all, he is a damn good musician, just more of a pioneer. I would definitely put him in my top ten of bassists though.

[/end rant]

Oh yeah and I have heard Pulling Teeth. Both those guys are AMAZING(Lez Claypool too). I am pretty much biased, Ozma being my favorite band and all. My point was just Claypol's stuff isn't as mindblowingly hard as one think. I can't really say much more as I am not so much into Dream Theater and Metallica.

Daniel Brummel is more creative then he is phenomenal, and tends to have riffs that lean more towards "unique" and "creative" than "putting him on par with Les Claypool." By the way, did you know that Ozma broke up last month? Saddening. Also, Getty Lee (Rush) is the best pure-blood bass player of all time, and he sings lead (like Les).

I'm currently listening to sound garden, but I like Steve Vai's work, Joe Satriani's work, Some of Dream Theater's work, Janes Addiction, Alice in Chains, Days of the New, and that about covers it for now.
