Ok, so I've been a fan boy of Diablo ever since I played the first one. I can't wait for the 3rd one to come out. Any thoughts on this?

I've been waiting for the release of this game longer than I care to admit. There was a time when not a single night would go by that I wasn't traveling through the durance of hate for the seventh or eighth time in the hopes of finding that missing set piece to my gear at the end of a Baal run.
From the available content on the site and released through various sources, I have to say I'm absolutely liking the design of the maps and the overall look and feel to the game so far, not to mention, the character classes released to date all look brilliant. I'm happy to see the Barb return, and I absolutely cannot wait to start casting wall of zombies with the Witch-Doctor. I expect this game will single-handedly be the very end of my social life. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I dominated Diablo 2. I played only Hardcore mode, and had two level 99's on it (which considering all the lag issues that used to occur was pretty good). Even made a bunch of duelers for hardcore mode because everything was just so much more awesome knowing how careful you have to be in hardcore. I definitely mastered the keyboard strokes required to exit any game as fast as possible, haha. But when the hacks really got out of control and Hardcore cannibalized itself on the public realms(eventually there'd be no public games at all due to the fear of PK's) that's when I had to move on to other things.
That being said, I will be sad knowing Hardcore mode is just not what people are looking for these days and somewhat outdated. But Diablo 3 will be impressive no matter what. Blizzard hasn't really failed in any of their game releases, and I'm sure their streak will continue. I just wish they would come out with the Necromancer again. He was my absolute favorite. Nothing beats massing Bone Walls, creating skeleton armies, heat seeking missiles and just a generally creepy guy. Oh well, at least the Barbarian is back, he was always a blast. |

I played the hell out of Diablo 2. Last year I tried to beat the game on Hell with every character, but that dream burned out quick and I only actually finished it with a Barbarian, Sorceress, and Necromancer. My favorite classes were / are those three (not a coincidence), plus maybe the Druid.
So yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to this new one. And the first three classes revealed are basically matching the archetypes of Baba, Sorc, and Necro, so I've been excited since Day 1 of the revelation. I even newsposted about it. Any thoughts on what the final class is going to be? Smart money's on Ranger. Smarter money is on them revealing it at the 2010 BlizzCon in October. Also, Diablo 2 just got a real, live, patch and ladder reset a week or two ago. I might have to fire up the old "roll a die and make a mono elemental sorceress" routine. -------------------- |

I'm expected the final class to be some mix-and-match of the Amazon and the Assassin from DII; basically a ranged specializing character with the option of traps and all the tech, non martial-arts related assassin stuff. Basically, yeah, a Ranger, but hopefully a bit more inspired than how I'm making it sound. Of course, given the sheer awesome of all the characters released so far, I imagine that whatever it is, I'll probably want to play as one at some point.
I'm especially grateful for the change in inventory style, because playing gear-tetris was incredibly frustrating, no matter how many mules you created. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I'm especially excited because by the time it comes out, It will have been a full 10 years. And also, I played the first Diablo, so to see how far it has come from that will be a real treat to the eyes and senses, not to mention to see what they do with the story. And I hear that Deckard Cain is back! Woot!

I'll admit that I still have an attachment to Diablo 2, but nowadays I may play for a couple months at a time and then shelve it for several more (pretty sure I mentioned this elsewhere). I haven't even finished hell mode (not once!) and be damned if I can bother with ladder.
As such, I'm not sure what Diablo 3 will really offer me, besides the same mindless (albeit fun) hack-slashiness Diablo has always been known for. I don't think I have the same dedication to really get anywhere in that kind of game that I used to anymore. Then again, D3 may have a different focus in gameplay from that of D2 and it may very much appeal to me. I guess I don't know enough to really judge right now.
I'm especially grateful for the change in inventory style, because playing gear-tetris was incredibly frustrating, no matter how many mules you created.
I never minded D2's inventory style. Seemed the frustration you felt was really the point. -------------------- |
