Terra was the main focus ("lead role", if you will) in the World of Balance
Celes was the main focus (read: "lead role") in the World of Ruin... 'nuff said -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

Well, whomever was or wasn't the lead role doesn't matter.
I think Terra's purpose was cuter than Celes'. It's all on Terra as far as I'm concerned. I liked her better as a character fer one, but that's rather beside the point.
![]() Okay, as far as I'm concerned, World o Ruin wasn't anybody's game. I think they picked Celes to start with cause they needed somebody to start with and she might as well have been it. I never really thought of her as the main focus at any time during the game. Terra on the other hand had the entire first half all to herself (in terms of plot focus) and she owned all of the ending as well. -------------------- |

Terra all the way, in my opinion.
There was definitely a focus on her, particularly through the World of Balance. She's pretty much the driving force through the first half of the game, and her being there is like the glue which holds the whole party together. Even during the World of Ruin, where Celes got some great character development, there was still a lean towards Terra if you got her. (And it's pretty obvious that the developers intended you to.) -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. Neither one of them, in my opinon, were the lead characters. FF6 was one of those games that basically everyone was a lead character which is what makes the game so great

AFter mjust beating the PSX version of the game, I really think they thought Celes was the heroine. In the ending ciniema scene (on PSX remember!) it shows Celes at least 3x more then Terra...and they don't include Cyan at all!!!!! What a shame!!!
But personally I think it was both girls. Until the end of the first half, the two kinda passed the baton alot. ...oh and Terra is wayyyyyyyyyyy better looking then Celes. (I retract my statement about Terra being hotter then Celes, Celes is hotter. I was a young and foolish and didn't know what beauty was and all that.) Both. Â But pretty much any character from the game can stand on his/her own as a main character.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . OK, so maybe Gau, Relm, Strago, et al., wouldn't make such great leads, but they would be interesting if on short side quests. Â Others, like Edgar, Sabin, Setzer, etc., would make stronger leads, and I guess that's all that really matters there. So, in coming around the loop like that, both Terra and Celes made great leads. ![]() -------------------- ~Status Report~ * Completed... Dragon's Head * Completed... I loved them both - they were both wonderfully deep and attractive characters (attractive in MANY ways, sickos!) and i think that's part of what made ff6 so special.
but you have to go with terra. though celes's story certainly has more "closure" ...it's obvious that terra was the spark that set everything else off, the burning fire, feeding the rest of the story. she's not always there - but terra and her powers make the centre of the story. plus she has green hair, and that rules! -------------------- |

I'm a real stickler when it comes to accurately portraying (please excuse my use of this term) the "human experience"; basically, how real people live they're life. Therefore, I tend t'ward charecters which seem more 'real', such as Setzer, Edgar, and Celes.
I think that Celes's story is one of the main reasons why FFVI has such staying power. So, where she given the proper chance, I believe that Celes would have made the best lead. Unfortunatly, (as I always seem to do) I accidentally voted for Terra. As a side note, It is for this same reason that I enjoy Cowboy Beebop. |

i liked terra better as a character, and i thought she had a more well thought out storyline, as opposed to celes' "lets go look for everyone" story.
still, i think setzer should have been the lead throughout the entire game because setzer rocks hard. -------------------- You watch the world exploding every single night Dancing in the sun, a newborn in the light Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death Hello to eternity and live for every breath Your time will come... |

Naw, the best lead, hands down would have been Locke. Â Seriously, he's always putting himself on the line for women, which is a pretty noble thing to do. Â (Even if he was just tryin' to get some)

I voted for Terra. She started it all, she was with you all the way until the Apocalypse, and I think she had the best side story next to Locke.
Plus, I honestly didn't see too much story in Celes, anyway. No offense to anyone, she's one of my favorite characters, but just when you arrive in Thamasa, her story is like almost nothing. -- Royal Knight |

I voted for Celes because she is pretty much always in the story and no matter what you are forced to have her, but you have a choice whether or not you want Terra in your party in the WoR. You don't have to go to Mobliz and have her join your party if you don't want to.

I picked Celes, While both characters are very primary, Terra has a very small role in the WOR, so much so that it could be very easy to miss her if you where rushing through the game. Celes on the other hand has a rather constant prescense in the WOL either herself. Even when she isn't in the party, Locke usually is. Of course she also starts out in the WOR, and remains with the party untill you finnaly get the option to do party switches, wich is quite some time.

I always (or almost always) put Edgar on the lead, when I first played FF3 i remember giving him true knight (because he has more HP among Locke and Terra), and sprint shoes, and put him in the first row, just for looks

I picked Terra for the simple fact that when I first played the game, I kept asking myself "When do I get Terra back?" Her storyline was the most deep to me. She had a cool personality and plus, she really had no equal in battle (when she gains Morph especially).

Neither was the best lead, though if I really have to choose between them, I should say Terra.Because I liked her better and I feel she has more to do with the story....
