First was FF III, then FF IV, and now... SaGa 2? The second game in the long-running SaGa series, the first three of which came to North America as Final Fantasy Legend I, II, and III, is getting a DS remake in the same vein as the recent re-imaginings of Final Fantasy III and IV. According to an advert in the Japanese manga magazine Shounen Jump, the game will come out in Japan later this year. No word on any other release.

I enjoyed the first two when I was a kid, but I don't understand that they would be so popular that they would be deserving of an upgrade. However, I guess it makes more sense than redoing SaGa 1, with its epic "hey let's climb this here tower" plotline.

...Why?
And I would personally start with 1. I mean, there's no plot, but it's still the first in the series, neh? |

Quote (Rangers51 @ 15th January 2009 05:31) I enjoyed the first two when I was a kid, but I don't understand that they would be so popular that they would be deserving of an upgrade. However, I guess it makes more sense than redoing SaGa 1, with its epic "hey let's climb this here tower" plotline. As I remember it, SaGa 2's plot also involves "let's climb this here tower." Never played SaGa 1, so not sure how different it is, but Saga 2's tower takes them to different worlds emblematic of different time periods in human history and the plot is interesting to that extent. It also involves the typical "save the crystals" (called "magi") plotline. SaGa 3 has a straight up time travel plot, pre-Chrono Trigger, that I thought was pretty awesome. I loved the SaGa games and, as I mentioned in another thread, SaGa 3 was actually the first Square game I ever played. It's cool they're remaking it, but I'll second that it seems strange, since SaGa never struck me as a very popular series. Any idea if the name will be "SaGa 2 DS" or "FF Legend 2 DS?" |

I would imagine (read: hope) that it will be labeled as SaGa, since later entries have been.

Final Fantasy Legend II is actually a SaGa series game which was named Final Fantasy for American audiences. It was originally released on the GameBoy. So, no, not the one with Firion.

I know that you are not alone in thinking it was a good game, but I believe I speak for the majority when I say it was not worthy of being called Final Fantasy, gaiden or no. |
