It's kind of weird how many mentions of somebody coming back there is in the game.

Like Aerith saying herself before leaving for the last time, she said it herself that one day somehow she'll one day return.

Or how Tifa says on the airship '' Aerith talked about the future more than any of us ''

Temple of the Ancients '' One day we will look back on this day and laugh ''

And the Loveless play -

How Cid mentions the only quote that he saw in the whole entire play was the main sister of the lead mentioning to her lead that she will one day return .

Either Square was making a sick joke to tease the gamer or something else.

But been thinking lately, and think that Aerith WILL someday return.

It may take years but somehow she will just randomly appear back to life.

[ Sorry if this first created thread sounds a little bit weird, think too much ..]

Well... I think she does come back when the lifestream erupts and saves the planet. It's Aeris' 'prayer', rather than her personally, that returns. I'm fairly sure that's what was intended by all the references. We also see her face at the very end. I doubt that's coincidental.

The Loveless reference is interesting. I hadn't noticed it.

*MORE SPOILERS*

Well, most good writers of any genre often have an overlaying theme that they keep coming back to throughout the story in some facet, and I think you've largely picked out the major theme in this one, about someone eventually coming back.

I mean, Cloud is acting cold and callous in the beginning, teetering on the edge of abandoning AVALANCHE, but in the end, decides to come back to them. And more importantly, he returns to that day in Nibelheim to confront his very consciousness to discover who he truly is and final be straight and honest with himself.

Everyone thought Sephiroth died, but he came back, heck, all the way to Midgar, taking his mother with him.

The Aeris one we're all very aware of, especially with the follow up that is Advent Children, where she comes back in spirit and memory to help her companions.

Barret comes back for Marlene. He also is forced to return to Corel to confront what he feels he caused, and everyone else blames him for.

Nenaki returns home, though that's a loose argument there, but a lot of confronting of his past happens because of this.

And let's not forget Reunion, all the clones coming back to become one with Sephiroth.

So I mean, really, comings and goings are common place, but what the game seems to stress is that, eventually, you have to come back, be it that you promised to or not. Some of the characters are forced to through the game's grand design, while others aspire to get back to where they started or to what they want. So, it's not surprising the writers would have placed these references wherever. I'm sure there's plenty of NPC dialogue out there in the game that relates to this theme as well, and of course, Cid's tangent about 'Loveless'. Anyhow, that's just the observations the topic inspired... Never really thought about it that much, but it's intriguing that it comes to the fore when someone says, "Hey, you know what...?"

Any other takers?
