Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I'm a curious lil newbie.
![]() At what point in the game did you decide that you were going to beat it? And is there a story behind it? Sorry if this is a little talky. --------------------------- A long long time ago, 1998 to be exact, my friend Nick and I came home from school after a quick stopover at Blockbuster. I had just received my brother's old SNES and Nick and I rented an SNES game, something called Final Fantasy III. I'd seen it before in stores and thought the little white thing on the box art was kinda cute. So we ponied up five bucks and rented the game for three days. We popped it in and spent the next four hours gaming. Nick was extremely gung-ho about the magic and fighting thing while I was just okay with it. Then we got to Doma. Kefka uttered his Moral Event Horizon line of, "Nothing can beat the music of hundreds of voices screaming in unison!" Nick and I looked at each other. We watched the river turn purple and I said, "We're gonna beat this guy. Hard." After three days, we reached the end of the World of Balance and unfortunately got caught up in school and other real-life stuff. But I never forgot that odd game and that villain who so richly deserved a smackdown. Fast forward to 2000. Nick called me up and said, "Hey Portia, remember that game we played a long time ago? The one where the guy poisoned the river? It's at the GameStop, in case you want it. I think they're getting rid of all their SNES stuff." I did want it, as it turns out, and 24 hours later I called him up and told him that I beat the game. It stayed with me and my good ol' SNES. Every so often I'd dust it off and start up a new game, usually naming the characters after my friends. Fast forward again to Christmas 2008. I got a DS for Christmas and bought a GBA copy of FFVI, the same game that I fell in love with over ten years ago. Nick was home on leave from the Navy and we went out for dinner and drinks one night. We're both still gamers, and he had to laugh when I pulled my DS and asked, "Wanna beat Kefka?" --------------------------- I still can't believe I've been playing this game for ten years and haven't gotten tired of it yet. I guess there's something timeless in it. So, what made you decide to stick through the nearly thirty continuous hours of gameplay? Well like you, I've still got my snes and copy off ff3 on it, along with Mystic Quest.......
------------------------- The story is that my old man had bought a SNES when it first came out and soon after ff3. I watched him play hour after hour until finally, he got bored of it. About the time of my 7th birthday he finally gave it to me, and so I decided to start a new game. Many time I was killed and beaten, but I didn't give up. Finally after 79 hours (Yes It took me that long, I havent touched that file since I beat it) it was beaten. Only took me so long cause i was power training. I made another new file, and tried to see how long it'd take me now. My 18th birthday came around and I decided to get ff6 for the GBA. The oh so irritating laugh of Kefka drove me to beat ff6. ----------------------------------- Here I am now a die hard fan of the game and its many characters. -------------------- Kefka's Message of the week: Get off your couch noobs and get my new game Dissidia 012 |

I knew I was going to beat it from the get-go, as I've made an attempt to beat every FF, though so far it's only I, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X.
-------------------- If something were to happen to me, all the world's women would grieve! - Edgar Nothing beats the music of thousands of voices screaming in unison! - Kefka Lover of all FFs, especially IV, VI, VII, IX, and X. (except for II and X-2) |

My brothers played it alot, and I always like sabin's pummel but I could't read
back then so I could never put in the right button config! When I was 10 went to a family renunion at my grandpa's sure enough i brought m snes and like only 3 games. I pulled out my FFVII and me and my cousin started it, he fell in love with Edgar and his tools, I often always told him that edgar himself was a tool haha. I Prefered Sabin of course cause his jeans were just the shit. I guess we started to realize we'd finish it after The battle of narshe and what really brought me to tears is when Leo died, he was one of my favorite npcs. |

I think what really made me want to beat it was that feeling I got through the entire thing, that this story was epic. For me at least it culminated when I dropped into Kefka's Tower and that music started playing, and those searchlights were going back and forth. That's when I knew, and I said to myself, "I have to beat this game."

The first time I finished it I was just so compelled to fix what Kefka screwed up. He destroyed the world, snapped my Blackjack in half
![]() The second time I beat it was literally about 15 minutes after the first time, because I shut off the ending thinking I had to go to baseball practice. That didn't pan out, so I fought the last battle yet again (reveling in Dancing Mad once more) and got to see the fruits of my labor as the world once again became green. Any subsequent time (there were and currently are many) was for the sake of hearing Dancing Mad and gazing in awe at the final boss sprites. I feel it has the best FF ending to date, the only problem is, I never really want it to end, so that's never my reason for finishing the game. -------------------- No matter how hard I try, I just can't get worried about it! |

![]() It was just an awesome game. I dont think anyone should have a reason for beating it XD its tht cool -------------------- *Sigh*....Times are tough |

Back in the day, when me and my brothers were the street hockey champions of the neighborhood, and serious gamers... ah those were the days... I don't remember how we acquired the game. Maybe we just rented it or something, but there was no doubt from the time we plugged it in that we were going to beat the game. It's just what we did with any rpg we got, and we never had any problems doing it 'cause we were diehard levelers. Well, it certainly brings back memories. I remember resetting the game a few times just to re-watch the opening trek across the snowfield, and deciding it was one of my favorite video game tunes of all time. I also remember watching the opera scene, and singing the lyrics in my head (of course, not out loud, as we were manly men, lol).
