Sephiroth? Psht.

The fight this week pits two literal and figurative war machines in an all out blast off. Some extremely heavy artillery will surely be used in droves. If you're a fan of interstellar RPGs or robots in disguise, you will love this fight. Let's go court side!

In the RED Corner... ...raging not against machines, but everyone else...

user posted image

Megatron

Where you've seen him:
the arch enemy of famed comic, cartoon, and movie series Transformers

Leader of the Decepticons, Megatron is an evil genius in a robot's body. His plans are conspired of meticulous detail leading to lots and lots of explosions. He doesn't take crap from anyone, especially Optimus. He lives only to exterminate at any cost. The guy has an amazing amount of firepower at his disposal. Hell, he can transform into a sizable gun himself. There's a reason he's touted as one of the comic world's all time greatest fiends.

And his opponent... in the BLUE Corner... ...if looks can't kill, a gatling gun can....

user posted image

KOS-MOS

Where you've seen her:
a human constructed artificial intelligent killing machine assisting the Vector squad in the Xenosaga series.

Brutal. Efficient. Deadly. All this crammed into a cyborg package. The vast amount of carnage this one android can accomplish is devastating. Take into the fact that she was created for the sole purpose of defeating armies--not helping to take out armies, no. Her, alone, taking out full on fleets. She is an expert at distance with her many array of artillery weapons as well as close range. An efficient killer no matter how you want to look at it.

How this fight came to be: Tired of his continuous defeats at the hands of Optimus Prime, Megatron fled the Earth in search for a new challenge he and his Decepticons could dominate. Coming across the beleaguered planet of Miltia, he knew he found the perfect place. Little did he know what awaited him there...

Battle Tactics: If it ain't about firepower, it ain't about nothing! It's all about using as much artillery as they both can muster.

Megatron has a definite size advantage. He stands as tall as a skyscraper and has the ability to transform. He has a countless number of bays to store his weapons. He won't be running out any time soon.

As for KOS-MOS, she herself is loaded for bear. She carries with her a pair of hard shell slug shooting gun turrets as her main weapon. But her most devastating weapon maintains to be the X-Buster, producing a globe of searing lasers. And if she can manage to keep him at bay, R-Drill will make a potent device to chop into his metal skin.

Setting: Miltia.

First of all, great picture of KOS-MOS. I'm tempted to give it to her (the fight) because of the ingenuity that went into how short you can possibly make a skirt. It's short from the bottom up and also from the top down, so that it starts almost below her hips. That really is fourth-dimensional thinking.

I'll say KOS-MOS wins anyway because she's smaller, more agile, and looks to be packing the same enormous firepower as old Megatron. I can't see her killing him, but she'll drive him off and win.

This is a really well-chosen fight by the way.

Shockwave, Soundwave, Prowl or Blurr would be the end of KOS-MOS, each for his own reason, but with Megs, the powerhouse with the fusion cannon, we have a contest.

The question is simple: will Megs be able to land a blast from his cannon before KOS-MOS fires enough armor piercing rounds to damage something important?

Since this is a question rather hard to answer, I'll have to go by battleground and here, KOS-MOS has the advantage.

KOS-MOS wins.

When I first caught a glimpse of Megatron, I assumed I'd be voting for him no matter who you'd brought in to challenge him. Then, I saw KOS-MOS. KOS-MOS is a beast. Plain and simple. Crazy fast and bountifully armed, I give the fight to KOS-MOS.

I'm not familiar with either character, just FYI.

But if KOS-MOS can take out entire armies, that sounds like she could match up to Iosa the Invincible (from the freeware game Iji).

Well, Iosa does have one glaring weakness, but she moves so fast that it might be quite for anyone to actually figure it out.

If KOS-MOS beats that, which I think she actually might, KOS-MOS is likely to be able to run rings around Megatron.

I'm not voting yet.

Metagaming comment: I predict Megatron will win the Googlefight. (No, I haven't gone and googlefought them myself. I'm too lazy to do that.)

I'm going with KOS-MOS. First off, I'm sure she's taken down bigger foes then Megatron. Secondly, look at those guns she's holding. They are just bad ass. Last of all, she's hot. 'Nuff said.

Megatron.

He's a brilliant and cunning tactician and, until he faced Optimus Prime, never lost a battle. Not to mention that he's notoriously hard to get to stay down. For all KOS-MOS' fire-power, she doesn't have the cunning to stay ahead of ol' Megatron.

Raw power is always an advantage in battle, but when facing an opponent with that kind of cunning and guile, I'll always give it to the intellect. Besides, he can destroy entire worlds when he connects his blaster to the ship. Entire. Worlds.

The results of last week's fight...

Might want to get a new crystal ball

Googlefight: +1, KOS-MOS

This is why I actually post the link. Such an unbelievable outcome, and by such a wide margin.

TOTAL: 22 - 20

From the tally count, and the stirring debate had, this was definitely one of the closest of the year. But in the end, it was... KOS-MOS.

Onto this week's fight. And I hope we have some old school horror fans in the house. We take some of the heavyweights of horror and send mano a mano until they gored the last one into oblivion. Who you got?

In the RED Corner... scourge of suburbia...

user posted image

Jason Voorhees

Where you've seen him:
the excellent Friday the 13th series of yore.

Patrolling the streets of the perfect suburban community with a mask and a machete. This guy was not to be messed with. He's a hulking menace, quiet as a mouse when sneaking up on his unsuspecting victim, and sending them to an early grave. The dude is an icon of massive proportions, and his killings are as legendary as he is.

In the BLUE Corner... Mr. Stabby himself, just don't call him Austin...

user posted image

Micheal Myers

Where you've seen him:
stabbing everything dead on the acclaimed Halloween series.

The perfect prototype of horror. Tall, hulking, aggressively agile, masked, and wielding a brutal and lethal butcher knife. He follows a very similar line to Jason, masking his undead existence and stabbing everyone up with a pointy blade. But unlike Jason, he gets to the point quick. No playing around with his victims. The knife is in their chest just as soon as he finds them.

In the GREEN Corner... the number one reason to never go to sleep again...

user posted image

Freddy Krueger

Where you've seen him:
creeping on everyone in the Nightmare on Elm Street series.

If it comes to innovation, how can you top Freddy? While everyone else walks around with a sharp object and stabbing everyone up, Krueger finds the one place that no one is safe: their own dreams. With a pair of kaisers, Krueger shreds his sleeping victims inside out. If that's not badass, I don't know what is.

In the ORANGE Corner.. the twelfth reason to never visit Texas (don't ask about the other eleven)

user posted image

Leatherface

Where you've seen him before:
having a bloody good time on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Leatherface has everything going for him as a horror icon. He's big, aggressive, and he wrecks everyone with the most destructive weapon of them all: a spinning, wheeling rotor of death known as a chainsaw. Face has something else that no one else can claim though. While everyone else is horrifying in their own way, Leatherface and his antics were supposedly based on actual events: way more than the others can claim.

How this fight came to be: Each one awoke from a dizzying faint to find they had each been kidnapped by Jigsaw. He "quarantined" them in an abandoned condemned building in downtown Los Angeles and said something very ... very ... familiar... "I'd like to play a game..."

Battle Tactics: Each one is aggressive, agile, hulking, and has instruments of severe pain. The question is, which one is the most aggressive OR which one will actually concoct a plan before hacking away.

Setting: The Quarantine building... watch out for the rabies...

It's saying "Megs wins" everytime I click it. In that case it'd be 21-21, a BlackJack tie.

Whoa!
Just, Whoa!

Okay, this is a contest: we have two undead maniacs, one true bogeyman and a creepy deformed sociopath. Or so I remember them.

I have to note, however, that you forgot "exceptions" in this battle.
Is Freddy corporeal? How much does that alter/weaken his reality bending powers? His mind powers? You know where I'm headed - with the full scale of his abilities, Freddy would eat all of them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The human Freddy, however, wouldn't stand a chance, since in his life he was a petty child killer with no special abilities.
So I'm guessing, that it's somewhere in between, for the sake of the fight.
My assumption: Freddy can transform himself, mind-read to a certain degree (faces and characteristics of loved ones, etc.)

So let's get cracking:

Jason Vorhees
Characterized as
"An unstoppable force." -Sean S. Cunningham
"An emotionless, blank slate." -Online magazine Salon's Andrew O'Hehir

Jason has something against people, and even more of a something against people that have sex.
He somehow, at some time transformed from a kid brought up in the woods by his momma, into a relentless killing machine.
He will stab you through walls, floors, stand right behind you when you think you snuck up on him. He, however, always got knocked out by the heroine in the end.

Michael Myers
Characterized as:
"Enduring, pure evil." - Steve Miner
"Unkillable, supernatural force." - John Carpenter

This man's motivation is more obscure, but seems akin to Jason's. He, however, has exhibited getting away with lethal wounds more than once, and I for one, find him much creepier, with his "silent killer" thing than Jason or Leatherface, whose, let's say, "fear appeal" comes from them being outright murderous (each for his own reasons, but still).
Short weapon, direct approach, and unknown, if any, weak point.

Fredrick Charles Kruger
Characterized as:
"A true personification of evil." -Wes Craven
"Son of a hundred maniacs."

Aiming at children and teenagers, thriving on fear, invading dreams and being a damn right creep-fest even when he was alive (though less dangerous), Freddy has the unfair advantage of being my favourite in this match up.
His most dangerous weapon isn't his glove. It's making you feel what he wants you to feel right before he gets you.
If you dream one of your loved ones stabs you, it's him. If you dream, that the safest of all places in the world becomes hell, it's him. When you don't find out it's a dream until it's too late, it's him.
Banished multiple times, but it never held for long (supposedly it did in "Freddy's Dead", but the franchise went on to the "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash" comic, which I've yet to read), and every time they needed a new method.
Every.
Single.
Time.

Bubba "Leatherface" Sawyer
Characterized as:
"A 'big baby' who kills in self-defense because he feels threatened." -Tobe Hooper
"Completely under the control of his family. He'll do whatever they tell him to do. He's a little bit afraid of them." -Gunnar Hansen

The giant child with the chainsaw. He'll be deadly, because he's afraid, and I'm giving him the benefit of having Ashley Williams' chainsaw, so he doesn't run out of gas anytime soon.
He however, is still only human, even despite the creepyfying face-mask, that is, the mask made out of faces, and the easiest to kill.

How I think the battle will progress
These are psychos, so their priority targets might be not, what they consider the most dangerous, but what they'd perfer to kill.
That's why Jason will go after Freddy, still having a bone to pick with him after "Freddy vs. Jason" for impersonating his mother and making him look sympathetic to the audience.

Myers will, for the lack of female lead character, go after the scared child first, to satisfy whatever something as evil as him has to satisfy.

Freddy will most probably know Jason is out to get him, but if a trick works once, it'll work twice, only with a different child. What I mean, is that Freddy can easily impersonate Latherface's loved ones to manipulate him into fighting Jason.

In a two-on-one, where one of the two is wielding a dismembering tool, I think Jason will actually lose. For the record, I think Freddy will fight as one of Leatherface's brothers, so Leatherface will cooperate.

During the scrap, or right after it, Myers emerges and kills Leatherface with a single, well placed stab. It's what he does.

So it's boiled down to Kruger vs Myers, and here, Freddy is at a slight disadvantage: Myers has no weakness. Not physical, nor mental. The best Freddy can do here is to turn into the most despicably evil thing Michael Myers knows, that is, Michael Myers himself.

Since I cannot decide at this point between the two (I'd love to see Freddy win, but I simply can't find any way for any of the two to overpower the other), I cast half of a vote for each. Because.

Freddy Kruger and/or Michael Myers win(s).

Also, this is one of the most awesome match-ups EVER.
Thank you so much for it biggrin.gif

Anyone else get this? I'm getting 42,300 for Megatron and 3,490,000 for KOS-MOS. Suspiciously lopsided, but it's what I see.

At any rate, even if it's overturned, I've accounted for the tie. 3 posthumous votes came in via Facebook overnight. And while usually I don't accept them, I'll make an exception this time.

3 more votes for KOSMOS keeps her the winner, whether the total be 25 - 20 or 24 - 21.

I'm gonna have to go with Freddy on this one. It's just too easy: he dominates people in their dreams. And it helps that he seems to be more sane than the rest... not implying that he's very sane of course.

Jason, beyond a shadow of a doubt. The dude's been to hell and back, he's virtually unkillable. I see leatherface going out in the first few minutes, and Myers will be the next to go. Then it's just pure freddy vs. Jason, but I have to give it to jason here.

On the Megatron vs. KOS-MOS thing:

If you don't use quotation marks, KOS-MOS picks up "kosmos" as well, which is the name of a ton of things. With quotation marks, "KOS-MOS" has about 400,000 hits.

Then again, Googlefight isn't always accurate; it gives "KOS-MOS" (with the quotes) less than 100,000 results.

Jason, beyond a shadow of a doubt. The dude's been to hell and back*, he's virtually unkillable**.

*So's been Freddy.
**So's Myers, who hasn't been to hell only because nobody managed to send him there. We're talking about a man who walked away with lethal wounds more times than Leatherface can count.

Basically I can't see Jason beating Myers, who's less of a showoff and even less human than the hockey-masked deformity.

Hey, shouldn't there be a new matchup now?

I null vote because ALL of these villains can be easily indisposed by the other. Jason and Myers would cut each other up until they were nothing but a pile of limbs that would bleed on each other in spite. Leatherface would get outclassed by the rest of this mob and with no one there to dream or think of Freddy, he would temporarily cease to exist until some other living being came by. Remember, he can only have power where there are people who know and fear him.

So who wins this fight?
Bruce Campbell.

The result of "last week's" fight:

CoN Crew
Kruger: 3.5
Jason: 2
Myers: 0.5
Leather: 0

Facebookies
Jason: 7
Kruger: 5
Myers: 3
Leather: 3

Ready AIM Fire!
Kruger: 8
Myers: 5
Jason: 5
Leather: 2

I R L
Jason: 7
Myers: 5
Kruger: 4
Leather: 1

TOTAL
Jason: 21
Kruger: 20.5
Myers: 13.5
Leather: 6

I've spent the last 15 minutes recounting the votes to make sure it was 100% accurate, and every time I am led to the same conclusion.

And not that we're pointing fingers, but Silver_Maduin's half-vote inevitably cost Freddy the competition (and it's now too late to amend it). Truly, have never seen a result this crazy in WNF history.

Also would like to point out that at 61 total votes, this breaks the record for most votes in one given week. And on this record setting, crazy result, we find the winner is... Jason Voorhees

Of course, a due apology is needed for my absence last week. A slight respite was needed as I had a heap of things converging at once in which WNF had to be sacrificed for a week. But fear not, for it's back on track now, continuing with this thought-provoking melee...

Altair

Where you've seen him:
gutting the guilty in the 2008 smash Assassin's Creed

A violent force apart of the Third Crusade, Altair is as cunning and stealthy a man as they come. He truly lives up to his title as assassin. His skill was enough to deliver a wealth of pain upon whoever came upon his list of condemned. He could not be stopped by the Templars nor be done in on account of betrayal. This guy has seen and done it all, and has done so with pure stealth and fatal instincts.

Why Altair will win: Aforementioned stealth and uncanny agility.

Kilik

Where you've seen him:
throwing down in the Soul Calibur series.

Kilik has a little something extra going for him. Sure, he has Kali-Yuga the legendary bo-staff, and he has expert skill in an ancient martial arts. But what gives him inner strength to defeat his adversaries is his unbelievable will, able to control the Evil Seed that resides inside him. Inner struggles prove to make strong men stronger, and Kilik is no exception.

Why Kilik will win: He wields the holiest weapon of a magnificent martial arts, long range attack, heightened senses, and when the Evil Seed inside takes over, Kilik will go absolutely berserk.

How this fight came to be: Kilik arrived in Acre, believed to be following where the Soul Edge was. Upon arriving, Altair attacked him, sensing the incredible power he possessed, and believing him to be with the Templars.

Setting: Acre

I'm am going to have to cast my vote for Kilik. I always use him in Soul Caliber as he is an impressive fighter. I'm not one to make intricate, long posts, but what I do know about Kilik convinces me that Altair will have a really rough time and probably wouldn't easily ambush him and take him out in one shot.

Altair.

Kilik may know it's coming.
But in Acre, he has no idea from where.
Altair gets the drop on him and delivers a stealth kill.

I can appreciate Altair badassitude, but I still gotta give this one to Kilik. Altair would be sneaking up for the silent kill, but with Kilik's training, he's ready for the suprise attack. After Altair's initial failure to finish him, he has no chance.
