Ok, I'm just curious as to what source people get their information from. Not the medium from which they get it, such as the internet or a newspaper, but what the actual supplier is, ex New York Times, Newsweek, Nightly News. Also, why do you like whatever source/s you chose?

When I did hear about news, I got it from the Daily Show. Or ytmnd.com when they would make fun of a recent story.

This is all a round about way of saying I don't much pay attention to the news.

My local alternative radio station website has some fine music news, some stuff I find out from the local news station, my family often informs me of things I don't know, and other times I get my news from this magazine called "The Week".

Almost all of my up-to-date news comes from National Public Radio, generally, but my local station, WBUR at Boston University, to be specific. I have a much easier time following the news when there are few distractions, and as such I absorb it more on the radio in the car.

A lot of times, I'll hear something there or by word of mouth, though, and then go reference it at cnn.com when I sit back down at a computer, since I'm very rarely away from one of those for long.

Sometimes I'll check the BBC news website like Del, but not particularly often.
More often I flick to BBC news if the TV is on.
And any random newspaper lying around can be worth a read.

Actually I love to watch a TV show called, 'Have I got News for You?'
They talk about the news, but they make a lot of jokes about it. It's all about the comedy, very amusing.

Shame it's not on more often.

Well, I follow the news fairly closely. Besides the obvious answers of The Daily Show and the Colbert Report, I dabble between CNN and MSNBC. Usually, I lean MSNBC though. In addition, I check Yahoo's news section on the internet.

I don't have a subscription, but for magazines, I prefer Newsweek.

In the rare event of a debate or if the news is following a committee meeting in Congress or some such, I watch it on CSPANs.

I don't get it from any one particular source - my homepage is Google News, which is just a big amalgamation of stories deemed newsworthy. It's almost like a huge RSS feed of all the newspapers out there. For a single source, I typically go to CNN - though I would like better story selection, their site design is really easy to navigate and the site has a lot of political features that I enjoy.

NPR news in the mornings during my 25 minute commute to work

I typically get all my news from one of two disparate sources.

Either the Daily Show, or Fox News because my parents love it.

The fact that so many of you - either in a joking (God, I hope!) or slightly serious manner - say you get your news from shows like the Daily Show is a testament to how badly our world society is getting...

While I too like the Daily Show, it is by no means a good way to view the world. What is more devastating is that our young people more and more now think that the Daily Show and the ilk are real news broadcasts... I do tend to think - however- that because of the often bias views of those reporting the news (Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, etc) tend to harp on certain subjects and overanalyze things people become disenfranchised with the whole system and resort to a lighter “news” broadcasts such as the Colbert Report and Daily Show.

…to answer the original question though, I tend to watch CNN and MSNBC. And mostly because I work for the company that owns CNN (Turner Broadcasting), I read the website quite a bit. Heh.

I also check BBC's "latest headlines" tab (built into Firefox) and MSNBC every day and I usually tune in to NPR while in the car. I rarely watch TV, but I always flip to CNN to watch the news.

I just realized that I hadn't included how I aquire news myself.
I listen to Morning Joe on MSNBC every morning before school, and, though I usually watch an evening news broadcast, there isn't one that I prefer in particular.
I do also recieve a variety of political magazines: Newsweek, The Weekly Standard, National Review and New Republic.
I rarely use the internet for news, since I am so busy that I don't get the chance much to sit down at my home computer.

Indeed, the best sources of news! For those who are concerned, yes, I am well aware that these are satirical shows, not serious broadcasts.

There was a time when I greatly enjoyed This Hour Has 22 Minutes, as well, though my interest in it has dwindled as the cast changed. As a result, I'm not as up to date on the politics of my own country as I once was.

I have to say that cable news has gotten atrocious in recent years. I blame the trend on Fox, which has killed in ratings and forced all other news stations to follow suit. To be fair, there is an obvious left-wing bias in most media outlets, and a big reason Fox is no. 1 is because it's about the only cable news outlet with consistent right-wing bias. But that doesn't excuse the utter dumbing down of the population that has occurred through cable news the past few years. It's all politics, all the time - not the kind of place I want to get my information from.

For English language news, I'll generally read BBC. That's b/c I'm very interested in international affairs, and most American media doesn't look outside the borders unless America is somehow involved. I'll also read what I can of foreign language newspapers for some diversity. I generally speaking like business newspapers, because despite their obvious business-bias, they generally carried reliable facts, which is what I think news should be. For that reason I really like the Economist, and also really liked the Wall Street Journal before News Corp. took it over, and it became another mouthpiece for Rupert Murdoch.

NY Times is probably the best of the American newspapers, but suffers from that America-centric focus I talked about. WSJ used to be great for some international perspective, but that has changed. The Brit media outlets tend to be a little more diversified...well, as long as it's not the Sun. I still watch CNN, MSNBC, and even Fox, just to get an idea of what the talking heads are saying, but frankly, I have to say that what I see scares me. I honestly do think Daily Show and Colbert Report have it right when they satirize these stations. At least they know they are a joke.

I know they're not news sources, but I do watch Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report. I also watch CNN and NBC at night, and I watch the stock market during the day. The very scary stock market that I am no longer a part of... luckily....

I watch it on the BBC iPlayer because I miss it on the TV. It's on season 36! You should watch it on there if it's not on. Actually, I've got a tab open right now so I can link it: Have I Got News For You

I watch Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week on the BBC website. What makes them so good is that they've effectively got a carte blanche to say what they want.

Sometimes, I watch BBC News 24 as wallpaper television when something big is happening, like the Conservative and Labour party conferences, but I prefer Jon Snow on Channel 4 if I have the choice.

I listen to Radio 4 when I'm cooking or loading the dishwasher etc and sometimes when I'm driving.

The Guardian or The Times are my newspapers of choice. They seem pro-Labour to me but they don't go too far. I'm just so bored of reading every slip-up that Gordon Brown has ever done. Yes he's the PM so he should be scrutinised when he fails, but you'd think they could give him some credit when he succeeds. Tory sleaze, Zimbabwe, the American election and Pakistan are far more interesting than reading a three-page extravaganza on two Labour back-bench MPs who are speaking out against Gordon Brown.

I tend to try and steer away from political party mouth-piece news such as Fox and CNN. I recently did an MLA citation paper for English Comp. and I used mostly articles from the BBC... I also like the BBC because they exposed Scientology for the scam I think it is. Fox News never reports anything negative about the group, even though there is plenty to report on that end, and I think CNN got some facts really mixed up on the issue (which seems to be common for both).

I did see an Australian news crew that interviewed Americans once to show how dumb they are, and it was obvious that they edited the interviews. Point being, the media is hard to trust, but I think there is a decent balance in the BBC.

I've really get my news from everywhere, not from one specific place. However, I have recently started listening to Neal Boortz's radio show. I think he's a pretty smart guy, though there are some things I disagree with him on, mainly global warming. I think I'm for the fair tax though.

I do have to say that I really do get news from The Daily Show. I really think that Jon Stewart is an intelligent guy that "gets it". I've grown to respect him.

I watch the evening news. My favorite of the evening news programs is PBS's News Hour with Jim Lehrer. In-depth coverage on important issues with minimum bull.

Other than that, I get my politics news from electoral-vote.com (a general elections-related website), SwingStateProject.com (a Democratic-leaning Congressional election blog), and miscellaneous sources (such as Google news results).
