So I've been reading up on the information we Americans have on ff13 and I gotta say, i'm non-plussed...
First off, let me just say that the whole "hey we have laser beams AND swords ![]() So, suffice to say, I'm not against placing FF in a furutistic setting, but if ur gonna do it, then do it! Samurai fighting space robots isn't actually that cool if ur goal is to make each FF more and more realistic, and Squenix has made it quite clear that that is their goal...so yeah...either make it fantasy or make it sci-fi...but if ur gonna combine them then at least have a sensible explanation as to why the heroine is using a sword on robots. Now onto the main event...the summons....turn into racecars....woooooooooooooooooooow i haven't been this turned off by an FF element since the unholy shitfest that was VIII....really guys? wtf does that have to do with anything??? now i know that small children will disagree with me due to the totally awesome insane cool-factor of having ur summon morph into an awesome set of hotwheels so u can do wheelies while shooting ur boomsticks....but it's just dumb...this concept, tacked onto the hitherto weird-ass storyline that i've gathered thus far has brought me to the peak of disinterest...the one saving grace I've gleaned is that the main character is a female (it's about time since VI) and therefore not another brooding, emo, asexual, little Cloud-clone or another carebear-on-crack Tidus incarnation. (No offense to gays, i love all of u ![]() Anyway, that's my rant, I guess I just expect some originality in the story that doesn't manifest itself in a way that raises the question: "wtf were you all smoking?" but alas...only time will tell if 13 will flop or not...I'm hoping there'll be more to it as the story develops ![]() Moderator Edit All your fellow posters are right. No need to throw out the f-bomb like it's a comma around here, we get your point without them. That AND the "gays," regardless of how much you love them. -R51 This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 25th October 2009 15:21 -------------------- I'd kill all the stupid people on the planet, but then there'd be no one left to breed. |

I think you should edit your comment some...
I don't think it looks that bad. I'll admit, I'm also pretty turned off with the summons morphing into vehicles thing. I at least hope that we'll get to see some of the traditional summons from the series, which it looks like we will. As far as swords and guns co-existing, I always look at history. There was a fair period of time where both guns and swords existed, mostly because the guns weren't fully effective yet. There's one explanation, but I agree that in a very high tech world, this problem would have already been solved. That gives us another answer though: what if body armor capabilities also rapidly improved to compensate for more reliable guns? Swords, being made out of a much stronger material than your average bullet, would be much more able to get through armor. Of course, the entire concept of turn based fighting isn't the most realistic either... -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! see what you did there? you gave an explanation
![]() Bottom line, the innovations they come up with in each installment, are becoming more and more disappointing, and Squenix's indelible hard on for rehashing the same tired concepts and stories is getting really old really fast...I guess I'm just waiting to be surprised by something truly innovative and original and engrossing...and I haven't felt that since IX...XII had amazing potential but came just short of fulfilling it with its predictability...oh well...only time will tell. -------------------- I'd kill all the stupid people on the planet, but then there'd be no one left to breed. |

Quote (Stuff @ 25th October 2009 00:38) see what you did there? you gave an explanation ![]() Honestly, I kinda don't. Really, it just reminds me that the game is still not out and won't be for some time. Plus, I'll figure out if/when I buy the game. Yea, I love hearing new stuff, but I'm just saying I can wait. But, anyways, while we're waiting, lol, oh, and I believe that's the racecar we've been talking about, pic #2. -------------------- |

Quote (Stuff @ 25th October 2009 06:38) I'm totally down for samurai fighting space robots as long as there's a sensible explanation that fits into the story; Well, when samurai are fighting space robots I don't really care for a sensible explanation, but to be quite sincere, I was just utterly unimpressed by the promotional material for FFXIII. I just can't like those aesthetics, not in another game. Oh, and by the way, you should double-check your initial post with the rules. -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. It's pretty and all but I haven't been able to muster any interest. There are games out there right now with a tiny fraction of its budget that are much, much more visually compelling to me. -------------------- "Cavefish is delicious, but only if cooked." |

I feel your pain Stuff.
One point I'll like to add: The music, the freaking music. Even when I don't like a FF title, I sure enjoy it's music. But now... I wanted to mute the thing, but turns out the lipsync is incredibly well done, an uncommon aspect in Japanese media. And then I look at the Crystal Bearers trailer with way worse graphics, not so good animation, isn't even an rpg and yet I get the feeling it's going to have more FF soul in it. But who knows?, it it's too soon to tell. -------------------- "Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine |

I suppose this'll be the one FF I won't even try getting. I've watched the trailer and I'm sorry to say that it makes me ill. The only saving grace is the guy with da afro and chocobo who lives in his hair(Can't remember name)(Sazh Katzroy!)

Don't know but is kind of hoping that the car- summon would be good to get your anger out/ smash buttons kind of thing.. Ironic considering people are not like the racecar summon idea at all... ![]() -------------------- Currently playing Chrono Trigger !! Currently looking forward to Don't Know. |
