Ultima from Final Fantasy 6. No enemy can survive the Giant, Rapidly Expanding, Blue Ball of Death and if they do... then you're not spamming it enough lolz

Meltdown in FF VII, or Scathe in FF XII.

Meltdown: at that point in my life, i was obsessed with dragonball, and it looked like a Kamehameha. plus, i like hitting things, so having enemies with 0 defense is just icing on the cake

Scathe: looks awesome. all of the top tier spells in XII look epic, but scathe is just plain fun to use.

Sure that you don't mean FF VIII and but not VII?

Merton in FF VI is a nice spell IMHO, even though I never used it - But if you equip your whole party with flame absorbation it should do a very nice job smile.gif

Melton (Meltdown?) in FFVIII kicks ass, as well as aura. And haste is one of my favourite spells in every FF, except for FF IX, where I usually don't buff my whole party - The buffs just vanish really to fast sleep.gif

I own the german version of the game where the spell is named Melton, so I wasnt sure about wink.gif

Never knew that it originally had even a nice name background.

In Final Fantasy 5 the best spell is Meteo. I also like Haste2 and the Chemist's Mixes, although these last ones do not count as magic... however, only by Chemist Mix you can cast Shadow Flare.

Final Fantasy 6, the best one is Ultima.

Final Fantasy 7, god-damn... this game has nice spells, animation wise and practically wise. For example: Freeze of the Contain Materia is very useful. Comet1 and Comet2 also are very nice, as it is Demi3 as well. And Enemy Skills: Big Guard, Beta, Aqualung, Laser, L4 Suicide and Shadow Flare.

I guess that my favorite is Comet2, though.

In Final Fantasy 8, there's no doubt, Meteor is the best spell. Specially if Rinoa uses it while being on Angel Wing mode. In one my fights, I casted her Angel Wing limit Break and she used meteor, it made about 3,500 damage per meteor hit.

I'm sure the answer has changed over the years, but at the moment, Galaxy Stop (FFT) is my favorite. I mean, global effect, reasonable charge time, no MP, automatic Stop/Don't Move/Don't Act on all enemies with few exceptions. It's a classic for a reason!

I've always liked Holy. FFT's Dark Holy takes second place.

In terms of utility, I'd have to go with the Life 3-type spells because being ostensibly immortal is okay in my book. thumbup.gif

However, in terms of just plain coolness factor, I'd have to go with X-zone from FFVI. To me, nothing says "Buzz off" like a one-way ticket to low orbit.

I'm gonna go with Holy in FFT because I love to calculate holy on an entire battlefield and just watch the enemies be torn asunder by the holy light of God. . . ironic since your party is a bunch of heretics, and that just adds to the awesomeness. The animation for the spell is just great as well. It reminds me of the satellite beam in the movie Akira.

haha just when i want to post i can quote again...

Do summons count? because if they do then I have to go with Odin from FF VII when he lobs the lance into the sky and impales whatever you're fighting (I used Odin against Palmer in rocket town oh the overkill!)
