Quote (Clock Dock) I saw the commerical for the game last night, forget the date, but it's def comeing to the U.S. It was actually released in the US two days ago. My friend David's been raving about it for the past 24 hours straight, but I'm not picking it up until my wallet gets a little fatter. After about 16 hours of gameplay (would've been more, but I'm restricted to playing on a friends PSP for the time being) my perception of CC is as follows:
Gameplay is nice, even if Zack tends to follow the proud tradition of automatically targetting the least convenient enemy at the start of a battle sequence. Characters are great. Except Genesis. Even Sephy and Cloud. (I mean, they gave Sephy a sense of humor XD ) The narrative after Nibelheim is a tad lenghty, but otherwise bearable. The mission system is okay. The limit/leveling system is weird. I rose 3 levels within a minute during the fight with Bahamut Fury. Also, I laugh at the battle at Costa Del Sol. I laugh heartily ![]() -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. Well, I love the leveling system. The summoning system though... I got 5-10 summons in one boss fight. I like Genesis. The LOVELESS he spews all the time gets annoying.

Okay I beat the game (once, with 20% missions, so it's back to Zack again in a while), and my opinion is:
Everything after Nibelheim feels artificially lenghtened, although the story put there is pretty good. The ending itself is great, and a great climax to the story, but I still prefer how they did it in Last Order. Special mentions for great moments go to: Possible spoilers: highlight to view Weiss and Nero picking up Genesis. My reaction was: "WTF are THESE TWO doing here?!?" Zack finding out, that he was held at Nibelheim for four years. The final scene with Zack handing over the Buster Sword to Cloud. I cried. One thing that bothers me, is that CC fails to explain Cloud's memory problems in FF7. Also, I laugh at the Vincent scene. And to all people who have ANYTHING to say against Genesis, I say: he's modelled after GACKT, what'd you expect? ;P -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. It does look pretty decent from the commercials I've seen for it. Now that I finally own a PSP, that's a game I'll have to be on the lookout for, if only to expand my PSP gaming collection.

In the first Final Fantasy VII game Cloud explains that he lied to himself so much about his past that he started to believe it. At least if I remember right he did...

It's because Jenova messed with Cloud's mind, mixing his memories with Zack's. This is outlined in the original FF7.

honestly, i love this game. i hated the original ff7. i think the fact that i was soo annoyed by the crappy graphics, and the characters personalities is why i hated it soo much. also, i got really sick of all the ff7 fanboys who thought it was the best game ever, and when you asked em what they thought of 1-6, they kinda looked at you funny... this game makes me laugh at all the fanboys. it just shows in more detail how crappy of a character cloud really is. this game really fills in some holes and makes sense of things IMHO.
the only real thing i DONT like about it, is the repetativeness of the areas, and battles. over and over ![]() -------------------- "Life: The deepest cut that wilt not heal. I respect your opinion, but since when does a game need amazing graphics to be good? At that time, FF7's graphics were revolutionary so I thought they did a great job in that department. Story and game play was wonderful. How can you not like cloud? I mean hes dark and mysterious...you never know what he is thinking. I can understand if they might be a lil too boring or something, but Cloud is prolly one of the best ff characters of all time. I have cloud slightly ahead of Delita from FFT on my list of top characters, but nonetheless i respect your opinion. I am sure FF 1-6 has a special place in your heart just like it has for many others. Anyways, sorry I got way off topic. I am curious, how many of you bought a PSP right when Crisis Core came out? I am thinking about getting a PSP for that reason. Is there materia in this game? Thanks. |

FF VII is my favorite FF, but I admit it's not the best in the series. It's what got me into RPG's in general and yes, I like Cloud, but there are several characters I like as much if not better.
Too answer an earlier question I did get a PSP just for Crisis Core. ![]() |

The gameplay is good, the music is good, the narrative is very well developed, the character backgrounds are well drawn. Also, this brings something to mind, since this is a CC thread: that's one of the things I liked very much, especially in contrast to the original FF7: Zack is hyper. He cannot stand still. He speaks his mind. He has thoughts and feelings, but he also has lots of amusing ego. He has lots of personality that is perhaps cliche, but very likeable. crisis core is awesome...if you just choose the hard mode difficulty in the beginning it eliminates almost 99% of the repetetiveness. I found myself consistently using barrier magic and other special commands like jump to avoid damage that would otherwise maime and disfigure poor zack, and poison to add more dmg cause all dmg done in hard is significantly less (or all enemies have more HP and DEF). I frequently used the 100% criticle when attacking from behind technique or else some battles would be all but impossible, and all major bosses (Ifrit, Bahamut, etc) have multiple one hit KO moves. Plus all missions are usually hard or very hard status making them much harder and the items more rewarding. I do think the block feature is relatively useless because you can just spam the dodge ability if you have good timing. The materia fusion system is sweet (dark, and hell thundaga and firaga rock) and the randomness is cool because the cinematics rock (summons especially for the CG scenes) and if i remember correctly it took a good while in the orig FF7 to build up a limit gauge by beaing beaten down, in crisis core just forget the DMW and fight and happily and ususally very often Zack just busts out a super move without getting beaten around. The people at G4 must have just skimmed through it on easy w/o paying much attention to detail to finish it in 12 hr I am at 25 hr and only at chapter 5 of 10 with 11% mission completion and level 20.
-oh and clouds amnesia was caused by the jenova research done on him and zack right after the nibihelm reactor scene where sephiroth goes nuts. (in classic FF7 psone)- when you are near the very end of the game return to the shinra mansion basement....the cinematic shows how zack and cloud recovered from their injuries in the starwars-ish regen tubes in which they were also expiremented on remember the scientist that zack beats down? expirements courtesy of hojo. since zack was already injected w/ jenova cells via him joining solder long ago these new expirements dont effect him but cloud was never in soldier so this is when he got juiced up for the first time...remember the van ride...all he says is ooogh and uuugh while zack rambles on about becoming a mercenary and asking cloud a bunch of questions none of which he answers, and cloud cant even walk, barely crawl as they get out of the truck near midgar where zack is eventually shot and killed and cloud crawls and gets the buster sword...those experiments blend clouds memories with zacks...which in the long run does make cloud kindof a lame copycat boring guy till he snaps out of it after that vegetable state hes in near the weapon fights (or Until Advent Children) which leads me to my ultimate revelation of FF7....Hojo is the main bad guy with jenova at his side... he did the hefty work in started all the nazi-ish living human research... and misleads sephiroth into insanity by just not telling him the truth that he wasnt made in a test tube, he is not an ancient, he was born of a woman and he is seph's dad, and that he just has a wee bit of alien DNA floating in him BECAUSE of hojo, which allows Jenova to control Sephiroth indirectly and all the clone puppets seph controls including cloud for a while...whoever said it before was right....before nibehilm Sephiroth is just a Normal guy with abnormally good fighting skills...not a world killing looney |

and for its simplicity yet super depth of story with no plot holes needing explination by three different games on three different consoles AND a feature length movie and! a stupid phone even!( ahem FF7, Advent, Dirge, crisis core, and a damn stupid cellphone game gefore crisis) and sheer vast amount of characters each with thier own permanent class and backstory and for being the first FF game to really diverge away from stories based on crystals or such things with relatively shallow overall depth (ahem FF2-5 which i still liked...just less) AND for creating the idea of magicite( which is way cooler than materia. cmon the souls of the passed on summons that teach you magic permanently w/o having it junctioned to your weapon slots?) which materia ripped off in essence FF6 is in my opinion the better game....GAME.... by itself...... you will probably have to pay over 300$...maybe way over that for the whole FF7 experience for systems and games and movie.....whereas 6 is all redone and extra fabulous in its redone GBA form...and portable....ff7 has a bigger and better story over all but its a pain in the rear trying to get it all. ff6 is simple in its use of only on installment, but you get the full package in it and what a nice one it was....i wish it wasnt a licensing issue because it would probably be possible for them to rehash FF7 on ds pretty easily because if gba can emulate SNES then the DS cartridge should be roughly equivalent to psone/n64 levels which could serve as a portable plane for ff7 in its original state too bad its a licensing issue between sony an Nintendo cause they sold off the rights after 6

Okay, what I meant about Cloud's amnesia is the following:
I know. FF7 said it. But the problem is, CC's ending seems to forget that. It could've been oputlined better. -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark.
