This whole darn post assumes you've played enough such that you cannot be spoiled!
Been playin' ff6 fer like the 10th time through since way back when. Decided to make it a bit more of a challenge, but wasn't sure how to go about it. Certainly I was going to play through without collecting at all, in fact, avoiding it at all costs, but I wanted to add a little extra something. Once Espers entered the mix I thought it might be cool to play with just magic. I sold all my weapons for relics and whatnot (those who avoid unnecessary battles also, unfortch, avoid necessary wallet content) and went for it. Magitek Factory was pretty easy but the Sealed Cave posed a bit of a problem. The Floating C. was OK until I ran out of MP a couple minutes before hitting the save point. The Atma Weapon was very difficult, but doable (in a couple tries, heh). Yawn... I hit the 'net for ideas. 'pparently you can beat the game with just Celes, Edgar and Setzer and I thought that sounded pretty cool so I went for it, bigtime. Here are some highlights and tips if you choose to do the same: 1) Don't walk into Tzen 'cause you'll have to help and then join with Sabin. 2) You can go visit Terra and pick up Fenrir, but it doesn't really matter. 3) Have fun with the those tentacles in Figaro's engine-room. Without 3 in the party their 'seizes' can really cramp your style. I gave Celes both Cure and Wall rings and immediately cast Rflect on Edgar. This was to avoid their Poison and Bio attacks. Cast the appropriate spells (if your Celes and Edgar haven't hung around with Maduin for a bit, you're in trouble) on the appropriate tentacles. It took me about 25 tries to beat, but I wasn't well equipped (sans cash). 4) Grab Setz and the airship. 5) Visit Mt. Zozo but do not enter Cyan's room, of course. I couldn't handle the Storm Dragon at this point, but I gave it a good try. 6) Anyone can beat the Dirt Dragon at the opera house with a couple Cherub Down. 7) Anyone can beat the Ice Dragon behind Narshe with an Ice Sheild. It's hard not to win. 8) Grab Tritoch and hop down into Umaro's smelly abode. Grab Terrato. 9) Here's where it gets kinda cool, but it was only tolerable 'cause I'm playing on an emulator and I can fast-forward. I'm too old for XP-grinding... 10) Do some odd errands (save Shadow from the cave etc.) and get at least one of your party slangin' Fire3 et al. Bust on over to the Hoover/Cactrot desert and rain Ice3's upon the Hoover's wormy heads (the rest of the party is on heal- and res-duty)! Use Drill on the Cactrots. Get all yer party to know Quake, quicktimes. 11) You should already have an Exp. Egg from D.'s tomb. Put Gaia Gear on Celes and Setzer along with whatever else is generally best for them. But stack Edgar with your best gear. Equip him with Cherub Down. Spend all the rest of your money on tents and head over to Dinosaur Forest. Dominate those dinos via repeated Quakes that heal most of your party and hurt your saurian adversaries. Tent when needed. Once you're a little more powerful, hit the Colosseum and trade Imp Halberds (dropped from the TRexs) for more Exp. Eggs. If you do this well, you should be 60-70 in a couple hours of grinding. This strategy works so well I can fast-forward through the dino-fights and not even look. I glanced up once and noticed I was fighting a Brachosaur. He was pwned too (luckily he didn't cast Ultima, heh). 12) I was 80 before I hit up the Phoenix Cave for the Dragon and the meagre treasures within. I put Edgar alone on one team with equipment giving him an MBlock% rating of over 100 (making him nigh invincible). Annoyingly, once and a while you will still get hit by not just some of your opponent's magic but all of it, as if you had 0%MBlock, but it's dealable (it sucks especially when they Zombie you... *cough* cue Amulet!). Celes and Setzer still rocked the Gaia Gear combo. It was pretty darn easy, really. Remember not to get close to Locke. Yes... this means you can never get Cure3, Life2, Life3, Ultima, Ragnarok, Illumina or the Paladin Shield. Deal with it. How do you defeat the MagiMaster, you ask? Bsrkr, a metric fuck-ton of HP, and always being topped up from your constant Quakes. 13) Once I pick up the Force Shield in K.'s tower I'll be able to have all 3 chars at 99 with an over 100%MBlock rating. This means I win. They'll be equipped in the following fashion: Celes: Enhancer, Force Shield, Mystery Veil, Minerva Edgar: Enhancer, Aegis Shield, Regal Crown, Force Armor Setzer: Man Eater, Force Shield, Genji Helmet, Force Armor Any other cool ways out there to make a replay worthwhile? I’m playing a “perfect stats†Celes-Edgar-Setzer game. Or I was playing, but I got stuck and dropped it before even getting to the fun stuff. Damn you opera rats, damn you to hell!!! I seriously can’t get to Ultros without Locke gaining a level. My super awesome reflexes (meaning they utterly suck) + playing in my DS (no fancy savestates) = no escape from evil rodents.

Cool. I gotta say, save states made my life a whole lot easier. What level should Celes be at the beginning of the WoR for perfect stats?
PS: I'm trying a 'no magic' runthrough and want to see if it's possible to beat the MagiMaster. Not that there's any reason to get the Gem Box, of course. This post has been edited by DoILookLikeAWaiter? on 11th March 2009 00:37 |

Well easiest way to beat the magimaster without magic, is have aleast the following three characters with you:
Mog: Moogle Amulet, keeps away random battles. Gogo: He can either Mimic a party member or you can give him different attacks to do. And Umaro: He attacks whenever and deals high damage anyways As for me, I tried the Savy challenge. Went from first save point, anytime I wanted to quit the game I'd only quicksave, and tried to see how far in the game I got without saving. My umptenth try of FF6 with that damn challenge, got me up to the Floating continent with all my characters lvl 39, and I was outta mp, and potions. So I died against Atma, and ended back to save point one. Best thing was all my levels were the same. It was great ubber pwning against Vargas -------------------- Kefka's Message of the week: Get off your couch noobs and get my new game Dissidia 012 |

Is it my imagination or is 39 really, really high for the FC?
PS: Cyan with the Genji, Blackbelt and 2 Tempests = destruction. Oh, and Mog's 'wind dance' or whatever is awesome. Sun bath anyone? I just equipped all my dudes with wall rings for Atma, it helps quite a bit and doesn't hinder me since I ain't usin' cure magic. Now a 'no magic' Celes-Sezter-Edgar game... that would be something. Or maybe a 'no magic OR fight' game. Just items and abilities... maybe that's a little too far... |

The most exotic I've gotten so far is only letting Terra and Celes learn magic. It actually comes in surprisingly handy in the coliseum since they can't randomly cast antidote or something stupid like that.

If my memory doesn’t fail me, Celes must be level 6. Wait, uh, MagiMaster without magic? How does that work? Like tesco said I’ve heard of using Umaro. Is this the same CES playtrough? Are you allowing summons? Am I missing something? Oh, I AM missing something from your first post. In that case, how are you going to berserk your characters? -------------------- "Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine |

MagiMaster: Mog, Gogo, and Umaro might do the trick. They'll have to be at a very high level. Wall rings should help. Still might not be possible but I'll report back. Obviously I can't use Bsrkr. It'll be rough. No summons. I'll have to use an X-Potion or something at just the right time.
Celes at 6, wow. Oh and it's a new game. I'll have everyone. I love it when your character warps out of the Colosseum when they're about to win. This post has been edited by DoILookLikeAWaiter? on 12th March 2009 03:34 |

well its not too hard to take on magi master with those three. I only said those three, you could have someone else too, dont matter. I was wondering something though for umaro.
Does it count for magic if he attacks with his blizzard ability, the blizzard relic -------------------- Kefka's Message of the week: Get off your couch noobs and get my new game Dissidia 012 |

I was thinking relics are good and items that trigger spells (tempest etc.) are fine. I figure Lore is no good. Not sure about rages. I never use Gau much endgame because I don't wanna bother building him up.
PS: There are awesome 'low level' FF6 fights on YouTube. Worth checkin' out. This post has been edited by DoILookLikeAWaiter? on 15th March 2009 08:06 |

I've got a game waiting just after the first time in Zozo. When I get round to playing it again I'm going to try and finish with just those three. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind.
