basically, i agree with u completely. they shouldnt make sequels, and a 3D remake would be bada$$

however, i am an aspiring gamemaker. ive made tons of backstory and ive got many ideas for sequels that i think are promising. if Squenix is reading (or anybody that has some good connections) id love to make a sequel. just me though, not anyone else LOL! im J/K, but in a way, im serious.

anywho...i think a 3d remake would be awesome, but i think well have to wait awhile.

It should NOT have a direct sequel as there is really nothing else to expand on.

However, there could be a prequel of the first War of Magi or a sequel way, way into the future in the same world setting.

Hmm...

a prequel sounds interesting.

I'm not necessarily FOR a sequel, but this game is tied with fallout for my favorite game of all time, so the idea of going on another adventure with the FF6 gang is definitely interesting.

Maybe you could explore the Esper world in the sequel. That would take care of the 'how do we we reintroduce magic without it coming off as a blatant plot device" problem. Possibly even allow the player to travel between the two worlds (a la Link to the Past, I dunno we can discuss it to make it feasible)

I'm not entirely sure how the characters should go, maybe have Locke (looking for treasure, of course), Terra (wanting to find out more about her past), Mog (on no other strength than it was all kinds of sweet to play as a moogle), maybe a few others and then create new ones (like Espers! being the only magic users for obvious reasons)

Since the earthlings would now be unable to use magic, possibly have some kind of job style system to improve their arsenal of skills so the esper characters don't outshine them to the point that they never get used.

I dunno, those are just a few ideas that came to mind.

It just wouldn't be Final Fantasy without it. Look at spirits within. (yeah, I left it in lowercase on purpose) But it would stand to reason that magic would only be usable in the Esper world and the Espers couldn't go to the human world. I guess it really doesn't matter since it'll never happen, but it's fun trying to make it plausible.

the real problem without it would be the gameplay. who knows, it could work without it. oh, and btw,

Don't be too sure. It might happen if some aspiring Gamemaker does it.

Ahh, if only there was someone who was willing to do it.

spot on.. so many people talking about not doing a sequel.. obviously not many of you have played this game... or you would want the prequel not the sequel.. with the prequel you could take the role of the espers trying to win the fight against evil... but wait that would mean you'd lose so not the greatest idea.. but good none the less.. or play out the events leading up to terras birth.. were she becomes the last hope of the planet... magic would still be in effect and i mean imagine instead of playing as the usual human characters (and the occasional other race)...being an esper with all these powers... hmmm but what would the summons be?.... use final fantasy 12's engine of course... cause well theres nothing better than that right now.. get rid of the turn based battles..2 games in one... rpg from start up till the war of the magi then rts there after.. of course this would be an idea best layed out on pc.. so much better for graphics and such... but good luck getting squenix to release another final fantasy on pc.. we all know what happend with 7 and xp.. as well as 8 having tons of problems.. ok now i'm just rambling...

First of all, and I guess I'm speaking fo pretty much everybody in saying this, that we have played the game before.

Second, I think there could be a sequel. It could be good; and it would seem to fit the industry's modus operandi (since every other game that is made has a sequel, and most of those are continually considered in the game-of-the-year picture {GoW2,CoD4,F3,R2}). Why shouldn't one of the greatest games of all time be given the same treatment, especially since it's neighbor in the series does? Why can't you have both a prequel and a sequel? {FFVI2?}

But for the most part I agree with you. You could do two games in one. The first part would be the WotM and the other could be set ten to sixteen years years before the in-game events. I do like XII's system, perhaps a modification of it would work. I do, however, like the CTB system as well. It's classic, and if it's done right it can add an element of strategy.

Upon reflecting Dissidia a bit, I got to thinking about the possibility of a Fighting game based off of FFVI.

Think about it, remember that coliseum? THAT could be the plot. No lame excuse needed to get a bunch of heroes together to fight a bunch of villains. Just a tournament at the Dragon's Neck Coliseum!

The selectable characters would be the obvious 14 we all know and love (maybe make Gogo and Umaro unlockable), and toss in several of the classic monsters for good measure and/or special challenges that net you upgraded equipment when defeated.)

As far as the time frame is concerned, it would probably have to be prior to Kefka's demise so there would still be magic for Terra and Celes (everyone else would just use their special abilities, OR maybe you could win magicite to round out your characters with spells that help counterbalance a particular characters shortcomings).

I guess the idea (and a couple of the elements I chose) are a tad redundant now, and since this Final Fantasy doesn't have a 'VII' at the end of it, Squenix wouldn't give it the time of day, but, it was worth a shot.

FFVI characters in KH would be the worst thing since Ronald MacDonald. Mickeys make everyone look corny in his cheap, corny little way.

Although a remake is more deeming and suitable in my opinion, I had a good idea in mind for a sequel.

Like, everything could be peaceful and all but there could be some impurity created from the ruin Kefka brought upon the world, note how that makes way for a bad guy introduction so easily.

War among the Espers VS the humans? Now THAT would be interesting. Could also be that this 'bad guy' is behind the war and gives all the excuse for everyone to get involved, especially Terra considering

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
She's part Esper anyway

Surely also such a thing would get even the king of Figaro involved. (Raid on the castle maybe? Restriction of magical power?) Am I giving you ideas here? smile.gif

Every time I beat the game, I always wonder what a sequel would look like. Unfortunately, sometimes it doesn't come out looking much like FFVI. sad.gif

I'm a politics and government nerd, so all the scenarios I imagine involve clashes between the new world governments. And I too always figured that there would have to be some Espers left in the Esper realm, so maybe it would be something of a "connect the two worlds" type of situation added to the political drama. Maybe the characters find out that the world needs magic to really thrive, so they have to go on a quest to retrieve 14 legendary broken Life Crystals hidden in various places all over the WoR and the Esper realm? Each character would be connected to a specific crystal as a Light Warrior and have to face some complementary themed trial to retrieve it? Goin' a bit old school there, and it runs the risk of being massively cheesy...

I'm more interested in a prequel, to be honest. It's too bad that Squeenix doesn't make prequels/sequels/other stories for FFVI like it does for FFVII. If I had any talent in making games, I'd do something a little unorthodox. What if we explored the villainous side for a change? I'd be interested in a first person type of game where you play as Kefka.

You could start off as a self-controlled if misanthropic chap who runs around doing errands with the other generals on behalf of the Emperor, Cid, or your own agenda. All the while, sprinkle a few cameos from the original game around, let a little time pass, and scary!Kefka slowly turns into the psycho!Kefka we all know and love. You get a meter that works on a sliding scale of magic usage. At the end of the game, if you didn't use a whole lot of magic and relied more on physical fighting, something Magitek related happens and that drives you completely insane. If you used a whole lot of magic, you drove yourself insane by using your magic. If you get the Magitek ending, you get some kind of darker alternate beginning to FFVI. If you turned yourself crazy, it leads into the canonical beginning of FFVI.

Anyway, that a bit long and wandered a little too closely to off topic. Is is too obvious I've been playing a lot of The Force Unleashed and Fable, and thinking about writing a prequel story too much? biggrin.gif

That could work. I've always thought you could still control the heroes, but introduce some new characters, like some lower level soldiers or something, so you could have two different views of the story.

***Disclaimer: Long post, gave me fanfic ideas. Go ahead and snag one, but if you do, link me to the fic! I wanna read. XD

RTS is a hard thing to get into if you're not genuinely interested. I know, I've tried.

That said, an FFVI fighting game I would play the heck out of. It sounds completely awesome. Unfortunately Terra couldn't play. :P She's useless without her magic. But I'd stillplay the heck out of it. FFVI has plenty of characters to use, it would be completely awesome. I'd just be sad at the lack of story for what was obvious a huge story-related game.

I do agree with the idea that FFVI is fine without a sequel and there aren't really any pressing loose ends. but, for an actual sequel, there's actually a few things to expand on:

The world was ripped apart, right? People died and got lost from one another. Searching for friends (lol) could be an aspect of the game.

As another poster said, magic could have simply been redistributed. How else did the sky turn blue and the grass green at the end of the game? A new magic system where one uses the earth's power would be an interesting change to gameplay. Random battles are less and less in games, too, so eliminating those would give it a feel that was interesting and different enough to attract players.

Then there are also smaller character plots:

As I said before, Terra can't use her magic and Espers were erased from the world. Maybe she feels lonely for magic and goes back to the Esper world, where it's possible that Espers live on. Of course she has the problem of feeling useless without magic, and a bad mother if she leaves Mobliz again. Would dead Espers be reincarnated in the Esper world when magic was redispersed? Perhaps she meets up with her father. Maybe she develops a personality! (Okay, sorry. I'm being mean.)

Locke and Celes had a rocky relationship, and the game never fully states they wind up together. They could always have trouble with themselves, right? Celes is a general and can handle herself but Locke is extremely protective and might not want her to. Maybe Celes doesn't feel quite right without something to really do; I'm sure she kept herself busy in Vector and on her adventures. Locke, of course, would have finally found the treasure he was seeking for so long and might have no clue what to do with himself. Perhaps he had a dream of being a small-town guy with a wife and kids...celes, of course, would make a very poor housewife.

Edgar is pretty much the only king left in the world. Doma's gone, the Empire is gone. So if he's king of the world, what does he do? He probably wouldn't like it and start trying to fill positions for leaders and try and get the world back in order, and in all seriousness, that task would fall primarily to him. also, he HAS to get married eventually. Who would he get married to? Would he be happy?

Sabin and Vargas fought over a misunderstanding. But I'm pretty sure Vargas doesn't have to be canon-dead. Sabin could certainly go looking for his old friend, and reunite him with Duncan.

I love Strago (kinda) but let's face it, he's getting old. He might tell Relm who her father is to make sure she knows everything before he goes. If he dies, Relm would be alone in the world with only her sketchbook and Interceptor at her side. Perhaps she refuses to believe Shadow died in the tower and goes looking for him.

And speaking of Shadow, who says he died in the tower? Maybe he escaped. He did say he was going to start over. Maybe he tries to move past being an assassin and a bad guy in general and tries to straighten up and fly right. That would be really hard for him, especially if he ran into people who were friend or family of his victims. Perhaps Interceptor leads Relm to him and they finally talk to each other.

Gogo could've Mimicked Shadow and escaped, too. :P

Narshe was overrun by monsters, right? Maybe Mog and Umaro have to go in and clear it all out, make it habitable. Maybe the caves are too warm for them to survive, anymore, and they need to find another place to go (and move the moogle tribe). Mog had a girlfriend, I think, so something with her could come up.

Cyan is probably one of the last Domans. But are there more of his kind, or does he have to walk alone? Is it possible to rebuild Doma? Will he ever see Lola again and what would his reaction be?

Gau, of course, has to deal with everyone moving to their own lives and no one taking care of him. Maybe he wouldn't want to go back to being wild once he'd been around people; he'd have a tough time making himself a part of society and taking care of himself in that society.

With Setzer, there's always the matter of Daryl. He found her airship, but never her remains, if I recall correctly. Where is she, why hasn't she come back to him? (Lol, maybe she's Gogo or has amnesia! Oy...) With little else to do, he could search for her. Or maybe she suddenly pops up in his life again...

There's always Banon, too. We didn't hear a thing from him after Kefka destroyed the world. Did he die, or is he out there somewhere? He could be brought into the game.

As for antagonists, Kefka just won't cut it. He's good and gone, and finding a villain to meet the standard he set would most undoubtedly be tough. I had a few ideas for this one:

Vengeful Espers might not like the fact that their kin were erased from existence. Maybe they come back to this world and ring magic with them, and the characters have to stop the Second War of the Magi from coming about.

The goddesses the statues were of might play a role in this. Maybe they decide the human race needs to be purged of all the idiots since they're so good at causing misfortune.

The Returners 2.0! Maybe everyone's pissed at the Empire for screwing things up so much, and so when they try to rebuild Vector people get angry.

Then there's the Phantom Train. Maybe there's an overload of ghosts since so many people died, and the ghosts go bonkers and start attacking people.

And DUDE. Ultros! hilarious villian who just won't quit. <3 you could bet he'd back for more, looking for trouble. If he wasn't teh main bad guy he could be working with him...or better yet, switched to work with the good guys!

And of course, there's always those crazy Zozos. >>b

My favorite idea is the idea of Kefka's fanatical followers. Remember those guys? They might be pretty pissed their god has been destroyed. They could gives the characters all kind of trouble. Maybe they kidnap one or more of the party and you have to go a rescue mission - also playing as the kidnappee(s), to slow things down from that end. (They should kidnap Terra. Since, you know, she's useless now. Aaaand the closest thing to magic they have.) Perhaps there's some ritual that could destroy the world or bring an incarnation of Kefka back (some of the world's dispersed magic summoned up into a rough version of his form, maybe), and you have to stop that from happening. (and be a second too late and fight him as the final boss before he can get power again.) Religious fanatics are SCARY, guys. I'm sure we've all seen one or two we know to stay away from. They'd make great villains, especially if there was one especially hellbent ringleader.

...

...

...

SO! with that said, don't say a sequel is completely impossible. If I can come up with all that off the top of my head, I'm sure professional developers and writers could do much better. Heck, they might even come up with the same stuff.

...I want to write fanfiction now. Darn you, overdue English essay! *shakes fist*

Oh, one last thing:

Prequel would be kind of cool. But if it wasn't involving the game's characters somehow, I for one would feel a little unsatisfied, as the characters are what drew me most to FFVI, not the world or gameplay. Same goes for any sequel. Kind of like how chrono Trigger fans weren't all completely happy with Crono Cross despite it being a great game, or how Zelda fans will automatically compare any new game that comes out to Ocarina of Time. Those of you dying for a FFVII remake know what I'm talking about.

To wanting the other side of the story: Great idea, but it's a bit predictable. We already know how most of the characters and conflicts will end, and no one could play a huge part in the game because we would've seen them play a big part in FFVI.

To a remake in 3D with better quality music, voice-acting, and a deepened storyline?

YES, YES, YES. <3333

I'd personally love to see a sequel for the game, but more then anything, I'd REALLY love to see it remade in 3d, with better soundtracks and visuals.

While I personally wouldn't mind a sequel (nothing much to lose, it doesn't change the original in any way), I think that many of the ideas in the above post (very amazing compilation by the way) would fit excellently in the existing game as side quests, dungeons, additional bosses and espers and etc. Not like the little remakes where they decided to throw in a couple of new dungeons and espers and call it a new game, but completely overhaul it with new features and side stories.

I saw this video on youtube the other day (remade from the FMA theme) and it really makes it easy to imagine that the group goes around doing all sorts of side adventures.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0Oxk7yOYi0&feature=related

I agree that a prequel would be a great addition to the FF6 line. Aside from the first War of the Magi idea, I can imagine a game where you play as Kefka. I think I recall reading somewhere that he used to be a quiet boy that lived in Thasmasa (don't remember the source so don't kill me if I'm wrong). How exactly did the process go where he lost his sanity? Did he originally have magic talent like the other residents? Past relationships, family? I didn't really realize that his last name was Palazzo until Dissidia came out in Japan.

P.S. I thought that the Uncle Ulty and Relm thing was a HILARIOUS idea!

Gosh, I don’t know how many times I have seen that video, I absolutely adore it, specially the ending.

I think the Thamasa thing was proven wrong because the source was a Japanese KefkaxCeles fansite that took information form The Complete but filled the holes to their convenience. Besides, why would Kefka need the magitek infusion if he was already a thamasian? Umm, seems like the Wiki says otherwise, take it as you will.

While deep down I would love to see a sequel, seeing at The After, Legend of the Crystals and Advent Children makes me think is not such a good idea.

So I’m with you, 3D remake all the way! Now the question is DS or PSP? Chibi look or something more realistic?

I would be very, very sad to see a chibi remake. FFVI is about the world ending. It's serious business. If they remade it, they would need to not cut any corners. Give it realistic graphics, don't censor the worst stuff out...because everything is bleak, you know? It's supposed to seem bad. Let us feel the full power of that instead of the chibi, censored version.

Edit: And I'm all for a ps3 or, if we must, an xbox remake. I want to see this on a home console, not a portable!

...if it has to be a portable, I'd pick PSP. Just because of the better graphics. Normally I'm a Nintendo fangirl, but Nintendo would make light of this game.

As much as I would love to see the remake for a console, let’s be realistic here, remake=quick cash, I doubt Square-Enix would like to spend that kind of resources, how many years is FFXIII taking? Maybe we’ll see something like it for VII, but I wouldn’t put my hopes up for V and VI.

Ad while I did like III and IV DS look, and I’m too a Nintendo fangirl, I want to see what can they do for the PSP (and that gives me and excuse to buy one besides Dissidia and War of the Lions).

The very best we can hope for is a DS remake that doesn't suck TOO much. It makes Lockpick a sad, sad panda.

Still, I can dream, can't I?

PSP remake would be <3

I wouldn't mind seeing a remake or a corollary story released on the Xbox 360. Alas, only in a perfect world...

And definitely do want regarding realistic graphics as opposed to super-deformed or chibified ones.

It's not so much a sequel or a prequel, but I'd really like to know what the gang did while Celes was in a coma. How did Edgar meet the Crimson Robbers? What finally caused Stragos to join the Cult of Flippin' Kefka? How did Terra wander into Mobliz? And what did happen to Banon and Arvis after the group met with Gestahl? (I have pet theories on all of these, but that's beside the point.)

Hey, you could play as Returner #6 or some such and bump into the main characters while you wander the world... happy.gif

You know, that's actually a pretty awesome idea. I'd love to know what happened back then.

No! Not another FFX-2 plot please =_=; (New Yevon idea and cult of Kefka sound way too similar)
This is why sequels arn't usually made, because it kills the original gem of a game. I find its better to make a remake or something, as long as it keeps the mechanics and story flow of the game. Leave the sequels to the FF6 fangirls/fanboys imaginations, its far more fun that way, considering you can exploit the plot with the open ends.

Ahaha, I've never even played FFX-2. I didn't even finish the first one! But I do firmly believe that any idea, even terrible ones, can be pulled off well with the right care and attitude. Just look at Smash Brothers and Mario Kart. Those sounded like bad ideas at first. So did Kingdom Hearts. But you all knew what games I was talking about, right? They're popular and generally get good reviews. I think the problem with FFX-2 and Disney Sequels (blegh) is that no one puts in any effort, and so you get out a kind of weird game.

Granted, all good things must come to an end. I wouldn't make a billion sequels to FFVI. Probably just the one. (Land Before Time, anyone? Sheesh.) My post was just pointing out that it wasn't impossible and that there's still material to be used.

I was thinking that it could be fun if they let you star the WOR with the character you pick. It would be harder to pull for some characters than others and take a lot of programming as well as script adjustment, but it would also add replay value and even more freedom to the second part of the game.

And what’s with the chibi look hate? Last time I checked, the original had characters with a body two times the size of their heads. I mean imagine Edgar pulling a chainsaw and a mask in realistic style…Actually that would be neat, forget what I said. On the other hand, imagine Locke stealing clothes from the merchants *shudders*.

Sorry, but I really hate chibi graphics. DX To me they make the entire game seem less serious, like a kiddy story. While kids should be able to enjoy some of the games (but not like...kids who are Really Young), I think a realistic style is much more appropriate in a more serious game.

...and you know, the clothes-changing could take place off-screen.

The last thing I care about are the graphics, chibi or realistic, bring them on! Just don’t ruin the beautiful music, add more to the story, and if you can, improve the gameplay. It’s because my work on graphics, I appreciate the things I can’t do more than the everyday bread. Also, the older I get, the less I care about if something is kiddy or not. But I understand your point.

And I would prefer that the cloths steal didn’t take place off-screen. That way is open for misinterpretation >_>. Joking, I guess that’s the best way to handle it.

Off-screen as in panning to Locke slipping the shirt on and the merchant tied up in his boxers, maybe.

...as opposed to the entire thing going black and you be left wondering if Locke and the merchant are making out or something (I'm going to hell).

Since when did chibi graphics stop people introducing more mature themes?
I highly doubt Square would consider that, especially with FFXIII and versus in production (Along with that other one, Agito or something). I mean, those characters were rediculously detailed. You could mistake it for a second Advent Children or something ><.

Anyway, those two (or am I missing a few other non ff titles? I don't play alot of square games other than FF) games alone enough to tax the company to their limits. If they tried making such a title now, they'd probably screw it up, so thats probably why we've heard no news of an FFV/VI remake. They seem more interested in sequels and prequels to FF7 and other spinoffs. Why all the attention to FF7, when FF6 was so much more awesome and FF7 just copied the themes X(
(Alas, i do agree that FF7 is a good game, but it is overly commercialised compared to other titles. I think Dissida was the only proof of attention to them). Now I'm starting to go off-topic, ouch.

Well when Locke's stealing those clothes, Locke could just run past him. During the process he's moving past him, his clothes become missing. :3
