im not sure if this counts as one of those "rare battles" but i ran into one hell of a fight at that mountain where the windmill is the first time (name forgotten..) It was like 3 of those red bull demons, 4 pisco demons, 2 summoners (with lots of summons, if they had cyclops or bahamut i would have been dead in like 3 turns) and 2 black chocobos, and this was in chap 3! On top of all that, my team was placed right next to the bull demons, talk about a wake up call.
I think my team was...
Ramza: lev 29 lancer, monk mastered
Wizard (vivi, lol) near mastered, lev 27
Monk, near mastered, lev 27
Thief, mastered, lev 29
Mustadio, mastered and on chemist class, lev 29

needless to say i was overwhelmed since my wizard and Mustadio were killed in the first and second turns. o.o Anyone else run into this battle?

i also encountered the dragon one at bed desert they ganged up on him and killed him lol and i ran into like 10 thieves they are hard becuase of the steal heart ablity

Lets see now... I've run into the Monks at Grog Hill, the Samurai at Yuguo Woods, I ran into a bunch of Chemists and Mediators with like, blaze guns etc. at Germinas Peak (I think...), of course, the HORROR Ninjas/Samurai, I've run into a butt load of Archers in VOYAGE I believe it is, I've fought with the a Lancer guest at Mandalia plains, then the next fight I got into there was the exact same only the Lancer was against me, I've fought wwith the Knight against the Bull Demon at Zeklaus (SP?) Desert, I've fought one Black Goblin in Sweegy woods, a group of Hydras and Hyudras at END, I've fought a TONNE of Chocobos, of all colours, at Barius Hill, and I ran into a group of like, 8 or so Ninjas somewhere.. don't remember where though.. and that's all I can think of at the moment

NOTE: I really don't know which, of these qualify as special/weird, they're just fights that I haven't found myself fighting more than once (HORROR Ninjas/Samurais are an exception to that rule, I've fought them at least 5 times)

hi everyone! New to the forum... been a tactics fan for 4 years now. Must be my favorite game of all time, I would say. Anyway, I thought I would throw in my 2 cents in on this "wierd battles" post. The strangest battle Ive ever encountered is the Grog Hill battle with 10 ninjas. I dont think Ive seen anyone with this one yet.... I hope Im not double-posting! Needless to say, I was not expecting 10 ninjas, and won only after one generic char had crystalized and only Cid was still breathing. VERY hard fight!

You mean 10 Monks, not 10 Ninjas?

I fought a "weird" battle that had a female Lancer and a Chocobo as a guest at that one place with all the rocks and grass.

I ran into a roving band of ten samurai in Yuguo Woods. I was job leveling and the time and they trounced me soundly. They were all dressed in green.

I think the battle with 4 dragon vs 3 blue dragons and 1 red Dragon is both, weird and fun.
I had to back uped the 4 normal dragons. (and let Reis use Dragon tame to get some of the blue dragons on my side)
and there is a red panter who helped my party in 2 battles while I was training Cloud .

there is also a battle in bed desert where I got supported by a red dragon and vs a theif and 4 normal dragons.

then there is a battle with both, a normal chocobo being a "guest" and an enemy unit. and that's about it.

maybe if I ran into the monks, ninjas, or a lots of beasts, I'm going to need a few mediators ( or maybe a few white magic users, train , catch and I should be safe form some of these enemies.

sorry to get kinda off topic but why do random monsters/people fight as guests, this has happend only a couple times to me but i was wondering if it was a flaw in the game or if it was just a weird quirk...

its not a flaw.... its like you happen to see someone being attacked and you help them out.

also theres something i just noticed...when i killed the wizard at the flood gate battle.....he screamed like a demon when he died not like a 'ahhh' but more like a
scratchy voice saying 'ehhhh'

dang, I've ran into the bunch of ninjas fight.
I brought Cloud, a red dragon, reis, worker 8, and a normal unit to the fight.
they kept throwing stuff at me and I lost to them!
I was only able to kill off around 3 or 4 of them.
next time I go leveling up for cloud, I'll bring at least someone with catch or train to make things a bit easyer (and maybe even the odds a bit)

oh yea~ those battles. I once encountered 18 calculators. That battle didn't last very long since they all knew flare. Oh and another one, I battled 10 mediators, they were equiped with elemental guns, and I happened to steal a gun that shot stone bullets. That was the best day of my life


Hmmm one more thing. In the deep dungeon, the last part, I saw two of the apandas casted bio except it was pink and had a different sound. (I'm not talking about the byblos) It was the enemy up on top. They all casted bio1,2 and 3, but two others casted a pink version. I don't know the spell name as I had that feature turned off. Anyone guess?

10 ninjas is a lot for a person who just began the game on chap. 3(me...)
The girl ninja I met with seemed to be the leader or somethng...
she had the most experience and the most hp...

The Rare battle in Araguay Woods is always this way : there's a bunch of male ninjas, somewhere around your highest level, and a female ninja who is a few levels above you (much like it is in the Deep Dungeon).
So, I guess you could call her the leader : I always thought of her that way...

15? thats seems like a lot of samurais! i never seen over 5 of a npc chars, monsters there might be more but samurais dang! I saw 6 calculators, they sucked they were so slow i just raped them except when they went they got half of my party under para. I just killed them but they kept lifing each other but eventually i got it down to one and then i just speed break him and was stealing all his clothes. He had athiefs hat (+2 speed). I just thought it was weird cause i never seen all calculators.

Another weird FFT battle is fighting all vampires... not good...
they stoped most of my party and petrified my leader...

I'd never liked them they are mean and powerful and want to kill my gang...

When do these battles occur? I've never run into any of them, but granted, I rushed through the game and beat it only once at a low level.

I mean, I assume they take place in chapter 4. Can they occur before then? And is there some sort of level requirement?

It doesn't matter what chapter you're on you'll have to go to some certain places in number of times.

Like Araguay Woods- with the ninjas with one girl not pretty. I encountered them again yesterday and I beat 'em! They died like dogs especially the girl leader.

Or Zeklaus Desert-encounter some bull demon and a guest knight...

There are many weird battles you just have to be in the right place.
Go everywhere then you'll find them.

The rare battles can occur for any locations on the map, but only when you come from a certain direction. For example, the rare all ninjas battle in Araguay Woods can only occur if you approach from the west (this is from the top of my mind : I could find more in my notes later if you want...)
I don't believe there's a level requirement, nor a chapter one, for a rare battle to take place.

Somehow I don't like to encounter some weird FFT battles like the s even though I've beaten them yestarday. The girl ninja threw a book at my summoner and he just got killed by a flying book...

I was going to summon golem so their attacks would be useless. oh well...

She wasn't so powerful after all my lancers stabbed her side and back good.

I have encountered sever al different odd fights. To my knowledge I have always pulled through with the help of my two monks, ninja, wizard, and priest. Priest runs like hell jsut there to heal and the monks at high levels can kill anything anywhere. Ninja is a good close up killer but I find that my priest seems to end up healing him sooner and more often then the rest

A single Porky, in one of the swamp area's. The name escapes me for the moment, but all I remember is dropping my controller in shock.

Think about it: a single porky. One goddamn pig.

And I had a Mediator with me at the time. Oh, the joy's of an army of them...

And for the record, Blade Grasp activates Brave% of the time, against the same attacks as Counter, with the exception that it also reacts against Spell Guns.

There are 11 Monks in the Grog Hill battle. There can be no more than 16 characters in one battle, and in all random battles, you get five.

And, concerning the Uribo, it's possible to encounter one (though rare) at the Zigolis Swamp story battle.
