I've never really been in to song lyrics and interpretations, it's mostly been about sound to me. But every once in a while I listen to a song and its lyrics and try to think about what exactly they're trying to say. One particular song that I've liked has always confused me. Just certain lines in it, so I don't really understand what they're trying to say. So, I wanted to put it out to the rest of CoN to see what they thought.
This song was released last year and is from a group that was popular in the 70s and 80s. Your parents would probably remember them and because I was born in the early 80s and my mom listened to all the popular music, I enjoy the group. So please, let me know your thoughts on this song. Peacekeeper - Fleetwood Mac We make all of our suns the same Everyone will suffer the fire we've made They all explode just the same And there's no going back on the plans we've laid. Peacekeeper take your time wait for the dark of night Soon all the suns will rise Peacekeeper don't tell why don't be afraid to fight Love is the sweet surprise Only creatures who are on their way Ever poison their own well But we still have to time to hate And there's still something we can sell Peacekeeper take your time wait for the dark of night Soon all the suns will rise Peacekeeper don't tell why don't be afraid to fight Love is the sweet surprise When the night is cold and still when you thought you'd had your fill Take all the time you will this is not a test it's not a drill Take no prisoners only kill You know all of our friends are gods And they have to tell us how to paint our face But there's only one brush we need It's the one that neer leaves a trace Peacekeeper take your time wait for the dark of night Soon all the suns will rise Peacekeeper don't tell why don't be afraid to fight Love is the sweet surprise When the night is cold and still when you thought you'd had your fill This is not a test it's not a drill take no prisoners only kill. Let me know what you all think. -------------------- Elena Indurain Currently Playing: Suikoden II |

Kind of looks to me like they're trying to say soldiers are scum.

Finally an answer. Not an in depth one but an answer. But someone may as well close this thread because it obviously isn't bringing quite the response I was hoping, which was an actual response and maybe even debate.
Edit I don't remember exactly which part of 2003 this came out in but I think it may have been around the time that Bush was planning or had done the attack on Iraq. The chorus says "wait for the dark of night" and if I remember correctly the attack on Iraq started at night. Quote Your parents would probably remember them Why do I suddenly feel so old? Anyways, as to your question, it seems to me to be talking about a nuclear holocaust. The only part I'm still unsure of is: Quote You know all of our friends are gods And they have to tell us how to paint our face But there's only one brush we need It's the one that neer leaves a trace -------------------- ~Justin Murphy was an optimist. |

It's about someone who's very afraid.
Quote When the night is cold and still when you thought you'd had your fill Take all the time you will this is not a test it's not a drill Take no prisoners only kill He thinks himself high-and-mighty, but deep down he knows he's small and unimportant and still he wants to show off his own strenght, wich he actually does not have. Edit I mean not to take over this topic, but you could also think about these: Lay beside me Tell me what they've done Speak the words I wanna hear To make my demons run The door is locked now But it's open if you're true If you can understand the me Then I can understand the you Lay beside me Under wicked sky Through black of day Dark of night We share this pair of lives The door cracks open But there's no sun shining through Black heart scarring darker still But there's no sun shining through No, there's no sun shining through No, there's no sun shining What I've felt What I've known Turn the pages Turn the stone Behind the door Should I open it for you? Yeah What I've felt What I've known Sick and tired I stand alone Could you be there 'Cause I'm the one who waits for you Or are you unforgiven too? Come lay beside me This won't hurt, I swear She loves me not She loves me still But she'll never love again She lay beside me But she'll be there when I'm gone Black heart scarring darker still Yes, she'll be there when I'm gone Yes, she'll be there when I'm gone Dead sure she'll be there What I've felt What I've known Turn the pages Turn the stone Behind the door Should I open it for you? Yeah What I've felt What I've known Sick and tired I stand alone Could you be there 'Cause I'm the one who waits for you Or are you unforgiven too? Lay beside me Tell me what I've done The door is closed, so are your eyes But now I see the sun Now I see the sun Yes, now I see it What I've felt What I've known Turn the pages Turn the stone Behind the door Should I open it for you? Yeah What I've felt What I've known So sick and tired I stand alone Could you be there 'Cause I'm the one who waits The one who waits for you Oh What I've felt What I've known Turn the pages Turn the stone Behind the door Should I open it for you? So I dub thee unforgiven Oh, what I've felt Oh, what I've known I take this key And I bury it in you Because you're unforgiven too Never free Never me 'Cause you're unforgiven too I kinda think it's 'bout vampires, but seriously it's probably about someone's love problems. what do you think? I'll go into detail then.
And this all goes with my "Soldiers are scum" interpretation. Quote Everyone will suffer the fire we've made They all explode just the same People mean nothing. There is no difference between them, since they all do the same thing when hit with a bomb/napalm. Quote And there's no going back on the plans we've laid. Once the order is given, it's given. There is no questioning. Quote Peacekeeper take your time wait for the dark of night Soldiers take their time with the killing, and do so in the most unfair circumstances, like middle of the night. Quote Peacekeeper don't tell why don't be afraid to fight Keep your sins to yourself, and don't show emotion when you commit them. Quote Only creatures who are on their way Ever poison their own well But we still have to time to hate Soldiers come and pretend to be "friends," but leave where they came from in shambles and destroyed. But the people get to live long enough to know they've been betrayed. Quote When the night is cold and still when you thought you'd had your fill Take all the time you will this is not a test it's not a drill Take no prisoners only kill When the mission's over, keep going. Quote You know all of our friends are gods And they have to tell us how to paint our face People are weak and will blindly follow. Modern soldiers are no different from the savages of old. Quote But there's only one brush we need It's the one that neer leaves a trace A good soldier is one who keeps from letting you know he was there. I agree, SMad. Your song kind of says "You screwed up so bad you're dead to me." -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Quote (Elena1999 @ 25th May 2004 18:04) I don't remember exactly which part of 2003 this came out in but I think it may have been around the time that Bush was planning or had done the attack on Iraq. The chorus says "wait for the dark of night" and if I remember correctly the attack on Iraq started at night. Just as an aside, any military commander who has technological and/or tactical superiority over the enemy is a fool not to attack at night. So, I'm not saying that it's not about Iraq, just that the line about attacking at night is not conclusive of the fact. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

For SilverMaduin's (too big to Quote) that's Metallica's Unforgiven II, it's a love song kinda, I'm a little scratchy but I think it was about an alchohol addiction.
"The door is closed, so are your eyes But now I see the sun Now I see the sun Yes, now I see it" Just a possibility. Metallica songs are pretty hard to interpret -------------------- I fear my heart and fear my soul Life goes on, it surely will, Without me and I wonder: Will I ever see light again? Life goes on... |
