Which Final Fantasy do you think has the most secrets or sidequests, hidden areas and bosses, and so forth?

Good question, I never thought about it before. Of the main series that I've played/beaten (VII, VIII, IX, and X), I would say FFVII for the extensive Chocobo quests (breeding, racing) and the Gold Saucer or FFIX with the extensive Chocobo Hot & Cold mini-game/sidequest and other mini-games throughout the adventure. I think X may have a great number of sidequests and secrets as well, but I haven't divulged that deep outside of the main story.

I would say XII. There's quite a bit in it.

im going to have to say either XII or Tactics advance. 300 missions, and a demi-storyline? thats a lot of things to do, and XII is just massive. ive put over 300 hours into and i still find things to do, granted 100 or so of that is just wandering around...

I've never played Tactics or XII, but of the ones I have played (almost all the rest) I'd have to say VII. Most FFs just give you a card game or something, but FFVII gives you Chocobo breeding, Fort Condor, + all the games at the Golden Saucer (all the Arcade games, Battle Arena, and Chocobo racing). There's also the the typical hidden characters and extra tough bosses (Weapons) to boot.

my vote would have to be tactics. the mass amount of chars that you can get, along with all the sidequests for each one. then theres the missions at the pubs. finding all the secret areas and items, deffinately takes some time. plus the midnights deep dungeon is a nice touch.
theres a lot more gameplay than most people think. -------------------- "Life: The deepest cut that wilt not heal. Fore it bleeds on and on as if an eternity. An endless river of blood in which death is thyne only escape. And as the tainted years pass, that escape muddles us with temptation." |

I'd have to agree, Tactics is so expansive, just doing it all and more. I'd definately consider it with the most secrets, FFT-Advance has a lot of missions not pertaining to main "story" but not a lot of secrets. and I honestly cannot comment on FFXII or FFX for that matter as I have not played em. But a Final Fantasy with more to do seems mind-boggling.

I only played FF 1 - 9 (except 3) and I would say VI. Re-uniting of the characters, find bonus characters (how many? Gogo, Mog, Umaro are 3, but werent there more?

Tactics Advance makes a compelling argument, but as it's actually a never-ending cycle of missions, so it's not really fair to count.
My vote is cast for FF X-2. As the sidequests actually make a difference in that game. You can beat the game if you like without doing any of the side projects, but you will recieve a different ending if you do them. Also, different bits of storyline are only revealed as part of sidequests. All the other games may have sidequests, but in X-2 they become important to the plot, if you so choose to do them. -------------------- If internal struggles were as enjoyable and glamorous as the self conflicted wars within video game characters, we would all be statues, reveling in perpetual self war. -Me Play me on Rock Band 2, GH-WT, or any other Xbox GH! Quote (Lord Bob Bree @ 18th May 2008 02:39) I would say XII. There's quite a bit in it. Meh, I'm a little against that statement. Twelve just has a crap-ton of hunts to do. Clan Centurio (or however you spell it) was the only major sidequest, except hunting for Espers. I myself am thinking that FFX-2 has a lot of stuff in it. Not only are there optional endings, there are a lot of optional things to do in different towns/villages. On top of that, there's Blitzball and that funny game with the numbers and quotas... -------------------- |

ive not completed XII, but i think for me ity could be eight, with all the Gf's to find and items to get, and draw pionts to find, not to mention the alien pupu quest and the queen of cards quest i spent 90 hours on it and didnt even do the card one because that would have taken my life. oh and there's the mr.monkey challenge.... and the coins and quotas minigame? its called sphere break!

Out of every FF I've played, the one I've yet to complete fully is XII. And I've logged ~103 hours on that game as of a few hours ago.
It is true, the only major sidequest is the whole Clan Centurio quest, but XII is filled with secrets and other quests. For example, exploring all of the areas that are never visited in the storyline (Nabreus Deadlands, Pharos Subterra, Henne Mines East just to name a few) is a whole feat in and of itself. And all the subquests that lead to the ultimate weapons exist as well. Not to mention the Cerobi Steppe Windmill/Hell Wyrm quest... The point is that there is far more to do in XII than was offered in any previous FF, except for maybe Tactics. -------------------- Music is a mysterious thing... FFXII definately takes the cake for sidequests. The hunts and extra weapons and other quests: there's a ton more extra material in FFXII than any other FF. Second place would have to go to FFVI, since there was quite a bit you could do there as well, what with the extra characters, and of course the colluseum. In addition, it seems like every character in that game has his/her own little side-mission that helps develop their character.

Of the ones I've really gotten a chance to play, I would say VII for all the stuff at the Golden Saucer, Chocobo breeding and racing, WEAPONs, Ancient Forest, going back to Midgar, the 2 hidden characters, Wutai sidequest, Fort Condor, and the Crashed Gelnika

FFXII probably, but I did think VII and FFTA are tied for second most. FFX I have put an extensive amount of hours into with the monster arena, celestial weapons, and Blitzball.

I know this may seem a little bit offtopic, but I found FF9 to have the most findable items so far. I mean, in Alexandria, at the very beginning, you can amass a good 5k Gil and get 15 potions before you've even fought your first battle with Vivi. (Okay, there WAS the Baku fight, but that hardly counts.

XII. without a doubt, so far the biggest. I put in more than 200 hours and I didn't finish the hunt challenges from the seaside village, nor have I gone after Yizamat or the big boss in the crystal (I forget, Omega XIII or something?) There's no competition thus far (over 100 secret hunts, fishing sidequest, collecting Espers, secret Elements to find, etc, etc)-- X was pretty long, getting all those final weapons, blitzball, etc

FFX did keep me busy for a while, but I think that FFIX had the most. I got into the habit of checking every little obscure corner for a random amount of money or a Tetra Master card. And Chocobo Hot and Cold!

Yizamat is the last secret boss in that game, which also includes Possible spoilers: highlight to view Omega, Fury, Humbaba, Chaos, Hell Wyrm, 10 espers, an entire slew of hunts, and a few others I'm sure I'm forgetting. XII is rediculous with the sidequests, but the game just screams for it, more than any other in the series. I would venture that includeing Clan Centurio about half the game is optional, maybe more. -------------------- I fear my heart and fear my soul Life goes on, it surely will, Without me and I wonder: Will I ever see light again? I'd have to agree with XII even though it's certainly not my favourite FF.
Unlike the typical "arena" type special battles you get in a lot of RPGs now, each of the Hunts had their own little back story and requirements. Makes more sense than an old man who is somehow able to keep the most powerful creatures in the world in small cages for you to fight whenever... You also have the 30 trophy (or 80 total) rare hunts, which while without story, are still a sub-quest of their own. The rather annoying fishing game that leads to even MORE treasure hunting so you can do more fishing... the handful of non-hunt special encounters like Fury or Omega. The seemingly endless item hunting required to make the best armour and weapons. The quite large number of optional Esper Hunts... You could also count the completing as the bestiary and Pirate's Den as their own sub-quests... Ashame the main story is so linear and uneventful really. ^^ -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |
