I just don't understand being so strict as to restrict yourself to Absolute Canon. There's not nearly so much fun in that, or I don't think there is. Yeah, good fics can be written based on canon alone, but it seems like it'd be more fun to try something innovative.

It's not that I am a strict follower of cannon just because it is cannon. It's just that, when an author writes a non-cannon romance fic, they end up changing the characters to be something that they aren't. I just think that authors shouldn't change character's personalities just so they can fit into a relationship with someone else. I just think that authors should only make pairings if the two people involved are actually compatable. Gau x Relm? Never gonna happen. That isn't because cannon says nothing about them hooking up, it's because the two of them simply don't fit together. It just so happens that most of the pairs that work together are cannon-endorsed.

Still, IF someone can make a fanfic about two non-canon characters, and make it believable, without changing them, I think that would be interesting.

Anyway, back on topic, what does everyone think of Celes & Setzer?

I mean, they KINDA had...something...at least, it was more than what Celes had with any of the other guys, other than Locke, of course...

I dunno...they might be...interesting.

Asking about Celes and Setzer doesn't seem to be on topic to me...however, you created this thread so I'll give it a go.

I think that it would be a one-sided crush. 'Cause of the coin toss scene, it seems that he admires her, because she hustles the gambler. He values intelligence and risk, plus he thinks she's beautiful enough to marry. Unfortunately, she seems to only have the eyes for Locke. I still think it's possible, tho'.

By the way, leilong, you are awesome for that analogy. Math rocks!

Hehe, and maybe she'd invite one of em to a special room in the Falcon for some... coffee. (But only if you have the nuked coffee mod)

But that said, I did kinda like the idea of Relm and Gau, I remember being on the Veldt with Gau, Relm, and 2 others, and Relm was controlling the same creature Gau was raging, I thought it was fairly funny.

Just kinda thought it would be kinda nice for Gau to have a crush on Relm, (doubt she'd reciprocate)

I used to ship Terra/Sabin for the longest time, simply because they were my two favorite characters throughout the game. I never really felt that the Celes/Locke pairing would work out long-term. Locke's got a lot of healing to do over losing Rachel, even though he would probably deny it. Sometime after the end of the game, I imagine, Celes is probably going to have to come to terms with the things she did for the Empire. They could work out, but it would take time. Maybe even years.

Now, I kinda-sorta like to pair Terra off with Edgar, because in my mind he just flirted because he was lonely and bored. Awww...

I really, really like Locke/Rachel. I imagine it was a secret romance, or at least one carried out very stealthily.

I once read a well-written platonic friendship fic that had, of all pairings, mostly-sane!Kefka and Celes. I wish I could find it, because it did a good job of showing his mental decline. And it made the dialogue on the Floating Continent turn creepier by tenfold when I replayed the game afterward.

I want Cyan and Lola to get together, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Cyan's gonna be a single widower for the rest of his life.

...I also happen to ship Setzer/Maria.
