This is my 5th playthrough, but my first on the PSP. I'm at the Limberry Castle Keep battle, and my party is pretty strong for this point in the game. I'm trying to steal the Genji set from Elmdore, and all of my chances are 00%. This is strange, because it didn't happen on my PS1 version, (It was always between 6-28% on the PSX) and I even have an optimal zodiac alignment, with a thief that is 15 levels higher than Elmdore, and has 4 higher speed. Why is it impossible to steal?

Elmdore has an innate Safeguard ability in this version of the game, so you can't steal his stuff, no matter what you do. I've read in various places that it was actually the same way in the original Japanese version on the Playstation, which I thought was interesting. You can still steal a Masamune in a new sidequest called Lionel's New Liege Lord along with getting Genji Armor as a reward, and you can get the rest of the Genji set in multiplayer.

Unlike the original PSX version, the PSP Elimdore has an inate Safeguard ability, meaning his gear cannot be stolen or destroyed.
To get the full Gengi set, you will have to complete some multi-player battles, plus a few of the extra battles from other sources. Oh, and use Orlandu. He is gamebreaker good. |

Safeguard? I didn't think anyone had that except for Balthier. Oh well, thanks for the info so I can stop wasting my time. Now I can go ahead and kill him in one Sanguine Sword.
Oh, and on the Orlandeau note, he is in my 5 player dream team that I'm working on, but he's no match for my Ramza right now. Ramza Orlandeau Beowulf Balthier Argrias |
